In Geometry… When teaching about transformations
• Split the class into three expert groups: Translations Rotations Reflections
• Have the expert groups explore their transformation, giving a definition and example
• Form groups of three for the home group Have them collaborate to learn about all three
types of transformations

Why use it? Initially developed as a way to break
down racial and cultural barriers Discovered to be a way to enhance
student comprehension Hands on learning Provides a small scale opportunity to
work on oral presentation skills

Possible Downsides? Students in the home group may
simply copy each other to fill in their assignment without teaching each other or fully comprehending the concept • Have a quiz over the material to affirm that
this is a learning activity to take seriously Students learn and teach each other
incorrectly• The teacher walks around the room and
provides guidance wherever necessary
