Itwas deoidod that an operationmust bo performed on tho spot tosavo thu child's life, but that ithad died almost immediately up-on tho tube boing placed iu itsthroat. The child had ovorysymptom of diphtheria in an ad-vanced stee. H",bad saved nonoof the secretions from iho child'sthroat aud submitted thom forbacteriological examination toDr. Alvarez.
