What is the Day School Video Academy?
An initiative of The AVI CHAI Foundation that will build the capacity of Jewish Day Schools to use online video for recruitment, retention and fundraising.

Day School Video Academy - Eligibility
The program is open to North American Jewish Day Schools that are operating in the 2011-2012 school year.
Jewish pre-schools are not eligible.
All programs or institutions must express a positive attitude toward the state of Israel in order to be supported.
Though this program is for grants toward Jewish day school education, only programs that do not reject the value of secular education will be funded.

#1: Storytelling
September 13, 2011 – 1:00 PM EDT – 1 hour
An overview of impactful storytelling techniques. How to choose a story, develop a shot list and interview questions, and planning for successful production. This webinar will give a broad overview of the production process, from planning/scripting, to production and through how stories are assembled during an editing process.

#2: Production Basics
Production Basics – September 20, 2011 1:00 PM EDT – 1 hour
By avoiding common mistakes in production, an amateur videographer can produce useful and even well-shot video. For example, sound is commonly overlooked and, while people will watch bad video with good sound, they will not watch good video with bad sound. This webinar will teach the basics of a good production, including capturing good sound, camera composition, basic interviewing techniques and how to use b-roll.

#3: Post-Production
September 27, 2011 1:00 PM EDT – 90 minutes
Intro to the Editing. The hardest part of the video production process is editing. This webinar will introduce schools to video editing, using Adobe Premier Elements, an editing program that is available on both Mac and PC. The webinar will cover general principles of editing. This webinar is recommended for all schools, even ones using iMovie, Windows Movie Maker and other editing programs.

#4: Distribution
October 4, 2011 1:00 PM EDT – 1 hour
Making videos is only the first step to harnessing the power of the medium. Getting these videos in front of the key audiences is critical to making the investment in video worthwhile. This webinar will teach participants how to maximize use of YouTube, Facebook and other video sharing platforms. The webinar will cover successful tagging strategies, best practices in distributing video to their existing network, and how to harness the user generated content and the videos of others toward their school goals.

To encourage schools to use their new-found skills at video, The AVI CHAI Foundation is sponsoring a video contest. The details of the contest will be released in August and will be listed on the program website.
