GRAPHICDESIGN

Front and back of a mailer for a new church opening in October of 2011. The pastor asked if I could design a new logo as well as the mailer, and this is the approved end result.

I think (hope) this truck will work for you. Edit/revise as needed. ^_^

Letterhead and envelope for my wife’s business. She asked for a simple, clean, contemporary design to compliment her visual style of photography.

The AMACO logo represents one of many lines of promotional items produced by Cus-tom Printing, Incorporated, based out of Bel-ton, Texas. The company asked if some of the inhouse graphic artists could redesign and update the old logo, and this is what they de-cided to go with.

Cooper & Company is a wedding multimedia service provider, including videography and DJ & sound. The owner approached me and asked for a brand that could encompass both sophistication and fun and that would look good on letterheads and business cards.

LOGODEVELOPMENT

Crowded Moon develops games for the iPhone and iPad, and soon, other smart-phones. They requested a logo in a minimal-ist style but with a bit of whimsy thrown in for good measure.

Chimichango’s is a fictional restaurant. I wanted to design a logo and icon that conveyed a sense of fun and playfulness and to create an impression of a dining establishment with a family-oriented atmo-sphere, where kids could play and parents could relax with a margarita.

The Gluk’s Strange Pub artwork was originally cre-ated on a Post-It, then scanned and cleaned up in Illustrator. All other elements were added in Photo-shop.

BUSINESSCARDS

This Teah’s Treats business card was for a client who was a budding pastry chef. She wanted some-thing whimsical and fun to help promote her new business.

This client, a local realtor, requested a simple, clean contemporary style for her business card. The photo was provided by my wife, a professional photographer.

The Cooper & Company dj & sound engineer re-quested a business card that was modern and with-out filler, but which still adequately represented his profession.

The clients wanted a simple black & white business card, as they were on a fixed budget. They asked specifically for a drawing of a running angel with a to-do list. They also had no real logo for their busi-ness, so I created this one.

My wife requested a business card with graphics on both sides to go with the letterhead and envelope. Clean and contemporary, like the rest of the paper system.

Steve and Lynn Provost’s new business venture also had limited funds for cards. They too were specific about the artwork. The drawing is actually a carica-ture of the owner’s brother.

The client specifically asked for grass to appear at the bottom of the card with a Texas flag in the back-ground. As for the logo treatment and typestyles, I was given free reign over its development.

ILLUSTRATION

A slightly reimagined take on Jareth the Goblin King and his little minions. Drawn in Illustrator then colored & textured in Photoshop.

Another piece of artwork consisting of reimagined characters. Buzz Lightyear of Star Command fights off the Evil Emperor Zurg from taking over the galaxy. Sketched in pencil, scanned and drawn in Illustrator, then colored & textured in Photo-shop.

Here’s another reimagined character piece. This time it’s Woody and Rex, also from Toy Story. Sketched in pencil, scanned and drawn in Il-lustrator, then colored & tex-tured in Photoshop.

Page 18: jess lopez portfolio

A group of trendy jetsetters populate this piece inspired by the album Jet Sounds by Nicola Conte. Multiple scenarios unfold within: the handoff of a mysterious briefcase with a weird sym-bol, which happens to be the same as the tattoo on the hand of Mr. Bluehair; a man on his mobile in the back-ground; the two girls on the right who may or may not be secret agents; and the shady ginger behind the blonde girl watching everything. Sketched in pencil, scanned and drawn in Illustrator, then colored & textured in Photo-shop.

This piece was created for a client who’d hired my wife to take some family photo-graphs.Sketched and drawn in Il-lustrator, then colored & tex-tured in Photoshop.

Time to bust some punks! Here’s a veteran cop show-ing an eager rookie the ropes. The car is an homage to my uncle, who had the very same make and model, minus the bulletholes.Sketched in pencil, scanned and drawn in Illustrator, then colored & textured in Photo-shop.

PERSONAL

My wife and I created This Is Flipside, a webcomic based very loosely on our lives with two insufferable cats. New strips are posted every Tuesday and Thursday. All artwork is sketched on paper with pencil, scanned and inked in Illustrator, then col-ored in Photoshop.

Page 25: jess lopez portfolio

(From top left) a chibi portrait of my wife and cat, some artwork for a comic book idea she and I have been knocking around, a self portrait, and a piece of Christmas greetings artwork. All done in Illustrator.
