8.2 AISH Dormitory RulesThe dormitories are OUR living quarters for the summer. Since we are a community and sinceunity is such an important part of the jInternship experience it is essental to clarify certainrules and standards of behavior. For the vast majority of our students, most of the following issuper uous because it entails common human decency. However, there are other rules whichare specifcally geared towards communal yeshiva living.

a. The dorms are Aish HaTorah yeshiva property as such they must be respected. Nowritng, or drawing on the walls is permited. No alteratons can be made toanything in the dorm without explicit permission. You will be billed to pay for anydamage to Aish property.

b. No improper pictures may be put on the walls.

9

Page 10: Jerusalem Internship Summer '19

c. Our campus is located in a residental area. This has great beneft for the studentssince much of the home hospitality is ofered by our neighbors. Since most of thefamilies in the area have small children, we are required to keep noise to aminimum. Israeli law dictates that at 11:00 PM disturbing noise must be quietedin neighborhoods. In additon, many of your classmates arise early and go tosleep early. Sometmes when one is having fun with a group the noise levels tendto be higher than one realires. Therefore we would like to bring to everyone’satenton that it is expected that partcipants keep the noise down afer thosehours and if someone reminds you to lower the volume, please cooperate.

d. The yeshiva maintains communicaton with the security authorites. No one hasever (Thank God) been hurt when he followed our security rules. We, theadministraton of the yeshiva, feel a very strong sense of responsibility for yourphysical wellbeing. There will be certain places that are OFF LIMITS because of thefact that they are high-risk areas and the venue of repeated terrorist atacks. Weknow that many of you might be tempted to have a cavalier attude towardsthese dangerous places. Nevertheless, we take it quite seriously. Pleasecooperate with us on this mater.

e. Keep your rooms LOCKED. Although we atempt to have good security, if studentsleave their rooms and possessions unatended and doors unlocked, then outsiderscan enter and steal things. Respect your roommates’ possessions as well, bylocking your door.

f. Needless to say, drunkenness or substance abuse is a rero tolerance act and willresult in immediate suspension or expulsion (and parental notfcaton) with norefund. To be clear: Bringing girls into the dormitory, use of illegal drugs, behavioral misconduct due to misuse of alcohol (or other substance), sexualmisconduct, violence, thef, or violaton of any crime is grounds for immediatedismissal from the program.

g. SECURITY DEPOSIT: jInternship partcipants are required to put down a $250deposit at the start of the program, which they will be refunded at the end of theprogram provided they did not damage the property, fully partcipated in theprogramming, followed the rules, and stayed untl the end of the program.

Let us reiterate, most students are mature and want a good learning environment andalmost all of these rules are self-evident. However, due the fact that in our experiencenot every college student understands these things we must spell them out clearly. Ifyou are among the majority of serious mature students please don’t be ofended bythese rules. You will appreciate them.

10

Page 11: Jerusalem Internship Summer '19

10. Security

Security is a high priority for us. Although you are safe in Israel, do not take unnecessarysecurity risks. Aish may notfy you of security alerts. These alerts will be in response toinformaton from the Israeli security forces that they have informaton that terroristorganiratons are making threatening actons. At these tmes please remain on campus. Thevast majority of terrorist atempts have, thankfully, been thwarted by the security forces.EVERYONE stll must follow these rules.

If, G-d forbid, there is a terrorist incident, everyone is required to call our staf immediatelyupon hearing about it to notfy that you are alright. You also should call your family backhome to let them know that you are okay.

If you wish to visit relatves who live in places which are considered “the territories”, or anyplace that the Aish administraton deems as not secure to go to, we are serving writen notcethat we accept no responsibility for your safety.

For four of the weekends we will have Group Shabbatons, and the other four will be ‘of/free/out.’ As with the rest of the program, partcipants must be part of the Shabbatonprogramming.
