www.jerrysplan-p.schools.nsw.edu.au Well what a busy few weeks we have had! It all began with a visit from Power FM on Thursday

28th March. This was an early start to the morning but most of the school were here at 7am

K-2 Classroom We were delighted to have Life Education Australia visit our school. The K-2 students were very excited to meet Happy Healthy Harold and join him on a learning adventure. We learned all about safety rules in different environments including the playground, classroom and at the beach. We also discussed what situations are real emergencies and practised

calling 000.

Celebrity of the

3-6 Classroom A snapshot of our term

History: Changing Places, Changing Faces

Below is a biography of an Indigenous Australian of the Year written by Jayda.

Mandawuy Yunupingu Musician

(1956-2013)

Mandawuy Yunupingu was born as Tom Djambayong Bakamana Yunupingu on 17 September 1956 in Yirrkala in Arnhem land. His skin name was Gudjuk. Yunupingu changed his name to “Mandawuy” in 1990 which means “from clay”.

His siblings names are Galarrwuy Yunupingu, Gulumbu Yunupingu, Ngapanyapa Yunupingu and Barrapu Yunupingu.

In 1983 he published “Outstation schools at Yirrkala”. Yunupingu went to Deakin University in 1988. He was a principal at a local school.

Yunupingu was diagnosed with diabetes and high blood pressure, by October 2009 he was on the kidney transplant list. Sadly Yunupingu died on the 2nd of June 2013 in his hometown, Yirrkala.

3-6 Classroom Writing Workshop: Persuasive Writing

Below is an exposition that has been written by Jesse. Below is a discussion that has been written by Dean.

Too much money is spent on computer operating sys- tems, new and old… Firstly, operating systems from the 90’s are maybe over $100. They might cost that much, because they are al- most 30 years old! Who would pay that?

Secondly, On July 26th, 2018, Microsoft ended their free offer for a free upgrade to Windows 10. Now they are charging it for $USD199.99 again! Maybe it might be because it is like the last argument that you will read soon. And in Australia that is: $284.86! That is like the most expensive Windows version ever!

Thirdly, inflation is making software more expensive, because inflation is rising 2.4% everything! And that is a huge problem because do you know what companies want? More money. They just want their budget to grow.

Lastly, because we have new technology, it also means that software is getting more advanced. And that means it’s getting more expensive! Now you know why too much money is spent on operat- ing systems! Maybe just leave your OS how it is. There is nothing wrong with it, modern or not. (if it’s DOS just upgrade.)

Should Instagram be banned? Instagram should be banned because other people can be hurt by each other and you have to be 12 and over to have a phone so your kids should not have Instagram.

On the other hand Instagram is great because if you are very far away from your best friend you can communicate with them and put photos up of you.

Another reason Instagram is also destructive is be- cause if you put up a picture of you and your best friend they will get mad at you and you get grounded.

Instagram has its ups and downs but I’m going to leave the decision up to you.

Bird Feeders

In the drier months of this year we had been discussing the growth of grass

and plants. We came to the conclusion that the birds in our environment

may not get enough food when it is dry. What could we do to solve this?

Make our own bird feeders! We decided to paint them green so it would

slightly blend into the bird's natural environment. We spent the afternoon

exploring our natural environment and bird watching.

Wombat Stew

We have been discussing the animals in our environment and Cooper men-

tioned a wombat, from this we decided to read the book ‘Wombat Stew’. Eve-

ryone loved this hilarious, imaginative book so we decided to create our own

Wombat Stew, but with a twist! We collected materials from outside and in-

side the classroom to create a colourful, creative stew. We had so much fun!

Teamwork

A big focus has been the emphasis of teamwork, cooperation and collabora-

tion with peers. The children are forming relationships, transferring

knowledge and developing their social and emotional wellbeing throughout

these activities. We have used the activities such as; big floor puzzles, team

games and discussions around working together to complete tasks.

Emotions

At this age, children feel an enormous range of emotions that can be quite

confusing for them. We have been speaking about our emotions, the different

types we might feel and relating it back to certain scenarios. Although the

emphasis has been on how we deal with our emotions in these situations.

Working on our fine motor skills

All the activities that we explore in Jerry’s Juniors have the development of

fine motor skills in mind. The children have been improving their pencil

grips, concentration and complex sensory and fine motor skills with

Working with numbers

We have also been focussing on our one to one correspondence when count-

ing, and I must say there are some very brilliant maths brains in Jerry’s jun-

iors. William and Cooper were both very proud of their counting and effort!

Celebrating Easter

Today we celebrated Easter with our teacher and peers, this being the last

week of the term before holidays! The children created their own Easter bas-

kets, decorated eggs, went on a MASSIVE Easter egg hunt and competed in

egg and spoon races. The kids had the time of their life, interacting with

their peers and celebrating Easter.

Thank you children and families for the wonderful term of Jerry’s

Juniors, I have enjoyed every second of getting to know each of you

and building supportive relationships for the future.

Have a happy and safe holidays and I will see you all next term!

Kayecare has shared another eventful week, we have certainly embraced the cooler few days. This gave us the op- portunity to explore our environment, investigating the possibilities of starting a winter vege garden—the kids have been researching what we can plant to suit our needs . The chicks are growing fast and have been a social and conversation point for the kids. They have learned to be gentle with them and have been feeding them each day, with this comes learning responsibility for their pets. Our pet rooster, Monday, and his kids have moved to Jayda, Laycee and Nash’s home. They now live in the Taj Ma- hal of chook pens and will be very spoiled I'm sure . As we continue our mindfulness and relaxation afternoons I find the kids are so settled and focused allowing their little minds and bodies to refresh for the rest of their day. The kids have been engaging in mud play in the out door kitchen. They choose what natural products will make the best stews and pies. This promotes language development and decision making as well as sensory play. This week Kaye was observing the cooking and stirring of mud, listening to the kids singing and talking about their project. I could hear Nash singing ‘yewwwww gooey yummy chewy Wombat Stew’ we had read this book the week before and obviously was remembered. As we gear up for the Easter break the kids are well into craft and the excitement of an Easter egg hunt next week. Enjoy the holidays, stay safe. Take care, Kayecare.

Dear Land Owner/ Occupie,r

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is planning to conduct a prescribed burn in Wollemi

National Park and adjoining approved private property commencing on Saturday 13 th April, 2019. The

continue for 2-3 days. Following the ignition period the fire will continue to burn for several days during

which time it will be monitored by NPWS staff in vehicles and aircraft. Substantial amounts of smoke may
