A Message from Mrs. Stolarz Lindzie Paape won “Principal for the Day” from the Back to School Bash last month. As one of her duties, she composed the principal’s message today. Hello! this news is brought to you by:Lindzie Paape and Allison Holbrook. We were a principal and vice principal all day today. Our day started with car rider duty and morning an- nouncements. Today most students were behav- ing in class. We supervised the Ga Ga pit during 3rd and 4th grade recesses. We also visited 5th grade classes and saw lots of hard working stu- dents. Students were a little loud at lunch, especially 3rd graders. There were not enough substitute teachers so we had to help Mrs. Stolarz teach in Ms. Klavas’ class. We taught a health lesson about family and learned about how sound is created in science class. Then we had Happy Meals for lunch. Yum! We helped Mrs. Holloway and Mrs. Parker with a lot of tasks while Mrs. Sto- larz listened to the 5th grade Human Growth talk. We didn’t want to do that. Who is “Jer Bear”? We also want to tell you about how classes earn the right to have Jer Bear, a stuffed bear astronaut, for the week. Jer Bear is given to the class that has the highest SOAR score for the week. The first thing is that you need do to win Jer Bear is be on your best behavior in the hallway. One way of behaving in the hallway is self control. Self Control in the hallway means no talking or goofing around. You also need self control in the gaga pit and when you have a substitute in your class. Did you know that there's a Jer Bear in each pod. So always make sure you are on your best behavior and maybe your class will win Jer Bear! Finally, our day ended with more su- pervision. The hardest part of our day was definitely writing this newsletter! We liked talking to students the best. We also liked watching students in- volved in their work and helping in the office. I hope you enjoyed the news. VEGETABLE OF THE MONTH: SWEET POTATO – This veggie,

also called a yam, kumara, plus others, is an edible tuberous root with

smooth skin whose colors range between yellow, orange, red, brown, pur-

ple, and beige. The flesh colors can be beige through white, red, pink, violet,

yellow, orange, and purple. A sweet potato is NOT closely related to the

common potato. This veggie can be prepared many ways but in North

America we tend to make them: candied, mashed, casserole, pie, fried/chips

and baked. The young leaves and shoots are sometimes eaten as greens. All

parts of this plant are used for animal fodder (food). The nutrient content of

this vegetable raw is complex carbohydrates, dietary fiber and beta-carotene,

with moderate contents of Vitamin B5, B6 and manganese. The nutrient content of this vegetable raw is complex
