Happy New Year to all of you, my wonderful customers! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas with your families.

This Christmas was another first for our family. There are seven Wisler siblings. This fall we lost both of our parents within three weeks of each other. They have given us many wonderful years of treasured memories and blessed us with traditions which we celebrated at our Christmas gathering. They always did stockings for us so we filled Christmas stockings with “treasures” we found as we cleaned up their house getting ready for the auction which was November 30th. We also read mom’s favorite Christmas story “The Christmas Guest”. We then had a special prayer for the generations of our children and our grandchildren, asking God to continue the blessing. What a blessed heritage I have!

On Christmas Day my sons and their families gathered at my house. We had a very special time together with mom (me) shedding some tears as I watched them and remembered past Christmases with my precious Kip. He always brought so many laughs to our gatherings with gifts from various fictional characters and pets. We also decorated Christmas cookies together in honor of Grandma Prenkert, Kip’s mother, who always had us do that at her house.

We had a fun gift exchange and everyone gave a gift to Moses, Derry and Janelle’s 16 month old son who is still in Uganda. He was abandoned by his mother, then in an orphanage and is now in a foster home. We are anxiously waiting for them to be able to bring him home sometime in the next several months. Please pray with us that this process will move quickly.

January is our official 30th Anniversary celebration at Jeanette’s Fabric Boutique. In October of 1980 I opened for business in my home. I had a very small inventory, mostly knits, and planned to teach classes. On December 14, 1980 my nephew suffered burns in a fire at my parents home and died the next day. My parents needed a place to live for a while and moved in with us. I looked for a place for my new business and found that I could rent the building at 105 S. Elkhart St. (which is where I am now). I was here for about a year when the owners decided they need to use the building again so I moved ½ block north of the stop light to 115 N. Elkhart St. and spent several years there before moving back to the present location. In January 1994 we had extensive smoke damage when there was a fire in the apartment above the beauty shop on West Waterford St. That building backs on my building. We lost all of our fabric but were able to save all of the sewing machines. We moved temporarily to a location across the street—a very small space and worked on redoing our building. We finally moved back into this building in May of 1994 and have been here since.

I want to thank all of you for your support throughout these 30 years. I wouldn’t be here without you! We will be having a great anniversary sale in January. Look for ads elsewhere in this letter.

The Janome Sewist 500 sewing machine could be yours—All you need to do is sew a blanket and donate it to our “Blankets of Love” project. Over the past 8 years we have given over two thousand blankets, first to the “Linus Project” then in the past four years to local charities: Family Christian Development Center, Hannah’s House, RETA, Faith Mission, CAPS, Quilts of Honor, Goshen H.S. Teen Moms, Wakarusa and Nappanee EMT’s/Fire Departments. This year because some of you have been turning in blankets all year, we have already donated 60 blankets to FCDC which they used for their annual Christmas Jubilee. They were so thankful to you! Again this year we are collecting blankets that will provide love, security, warmth, and comfort to those who are seriously ill or traumatized. We invite you to help us. The blankets you donate must be handmade entirely from new materials which are washable. You can make your blanket any size from one appropriate for an infant to one that could be used by an adult. The blanket may be quilted, knotted, crocheted, knitted, or made from a single layer of fleece finished with a handmade edge. We also need 42”x42” flannel receiving blankets. Every time you donate a blanket, your name goes into our drawing for a free sewing machine. You can bring your blankets into the store any time up to Feb. 28. Our goal this year is 300 and we currently have 60. We plan to draw the name of one of our blanket-makers at the end of business on Feb. 28th, and the winner will be the new owner of a great Sewist 500 machine from Janome.
