Jason KB Photo is the creation of renowned animal photographer Jason Krygier-Baum. Jason’s love of animals started young. He grew up alongside dogs, parrots, gerbils, budgies, snakes, hamsters, iguanas, turtles, newts, and a few aquariums filled with fish. Jason’s creative spirit and keen eye compelled him to pursue a career in photography. His love of animals naturally led him to specialize in photographing pets. Pets were by far the cutest and most fun subjects, and his clients were consistently overjoyed at seeing their precious companions captured in his art.

To create his signature modern images, Jason combines his high-fashion photography style with the latest advancements in studio techniques. During each and every photo session, Jason takes the time to get to know his subjects so that he can be sure to capture their individual characters. Jason’s assistant works with clients and their pets during all shoots to ensure that animals are photographed in a variety of contemporary and traditional poses and that they are always smiling for the camera.

The Jason KB Photo ExperienceConsultationYou are invited to come to our studio for a free consultation where you can check out our past works, view samples of the high quality products we offer, and learn about our unique client experience. The consultation gives us the opportunity to explore your pet’s personality and the time to discuss how you envision your portraits. If you are not able to visit our studio then we can walk you through this process by phone.

Portrait SessionA typical studio portrait session will last about two hours. During the session we will take a large number of photographs, using a variety of poses, lighting setups, and backdrops, to ensure that there will be a wide range of great images. Jason shoots directly to his computer so that you can see exactly how your portraits look as we go. This gives you the opportunity to provide feedback throughout. Jason’s assistant helps make sure that things run smoothly and ensures that your animal is smiling for the camera.

Ordering SessionOne or two weeks after your pet’s portrait session you will return to the studio for an ordering appointment. We will present a projector slideshow of our best images and help you determine which ones you would like to order as your final products. We make use of industry leading projector software that allows you to see your favourite images in all of the different sizes and finishes that we offer. Ordering is made easy by our ability to superimpose your chosen images to scale onto the walls of your home. You’ll know exactly what your artworks will look like hanging in that perfect spot.

Signature Mounted ArtworksAfter we have captured your pet in images that you love, it’s time to choose how you would like your photographs to be displayed. We offer a selection of the finest quality heirloom products in a range of styles that are sure to fit your discerning tastes. The majority of our clients choose to display their Jason KB Photo portraits in one of our signature mounting styles. We make use of the finest metallic printing for all of our mounted artworks to ensure that your images will be sharp, brilliant, and exceptionally rich in colour and detail. All of our mounted artworks come ready to hang on your wall.

Canvas Gallery Wraps (1) A modern take on a timeless classic. Your chosen images are printed on the highest quality metallic canvas and laminated to provide protection against scuffs, scratches, and fading. The canvas is then wrapped around a wood stretcher. Available in sizes ranging from 11” x 14” to 40” x 60” and in 1.5” and 2.5” depths.

Standouts (2) A sleek and contemporary mounting style. Your chosen images are printed on the highest quality metallic paper then mounted on a sturdy Gatorboard backer. The artworks are finished with

Session Albums (1) One of our most popular items. Session albums provide you with a large variety of images, each one portraying a different aspect of your pet’s personality. These beautiful albums have thick pages for exceptional durability and have lay-flat binding, which allows images to spread across the gutter for wonderful panoramics. Albums are 10” x 10” and include 20 of your favourite images.

Gift Prints (2) A great present for family and friends and perfect for displaying on desks and side tables. Gift prints come pre-matted in sizes that fit standard frames or as sets of eight wallet prints. Available in sizes up to 8” x 10”.

Wall Prints Your selected images are printed on the highest quality metallic paper and mounted on a 2mm styrene backer for extra durability. Wall prints come ready to take to your framer for finishing. Available in sizes ranging from 11” x 14” to 30” x 40”.

Frequently Asked QuestionsWhy should I choose Jason KB Photo to take portraits of my pet? We offer our clients the opportunity to create exceptional works of art that capture their pet’s personality in our signature modern style. We provide our clients with impeccable customer service and offer only the highest quality products.

Your portfolio is mostly of dogs and cats. Do you work with other animals as well? For sure!  We love all animals and would jump at the opportunity to photograph most of them. Unless your animals are really dangerous (think angry venomous snake or charging hippopotamus) we’d be thrilled to take portraits of them. In addition to our work with dogs and cats, we have photographed snakes and birds in studio as well as a wide range of animals in their natural settings.

How much does your service cost? Portrait sessions start at $150. In addition to this there is a minimum product investment of $350. Print prices begin at $50 for gift prints (up to 8” x 10”). The average client invests between $1000 and $1600 in their custom fine art photography.

I have a black dog and have never been able to take a good photo of it. Can you take portraits of black pets? We take portraits of all colours of animals, including black ones. To take great photographs of animals you need to light them properly. We tailor the lighting we use in each and every photo session to the individual animal we are photographing to make sure your pet looks like a star.

My dog has never been trained and doesn’t even know how to sit. Are you able to photograph untrained animals? You bet!  Some of our absolute favourite portraits have been of dogs that had never been trained. Jason and his assistant work with all pet owners to figure out the best ways to photograph their individual animals. Patience is the key to success when working with animals, and we have lots of it.

Will I receive a CD of the photographs from my session? Our clients receive a web-ready (low resolution) digital version of all the images that they choose to purchase as products. We also sell full resolution digital negatives, which are great for the do-it-yourselfer or for archival purposes.

Do you shoot multiple pets at once? It would be our pleasure to take portraits of your entire animal family! We have taken photos of as many as seven (yup SEVEN) dogs at once and lots of mixed families of cats and dogs. The standard session fee includes up to two animals. There is a charge of $50 for each additional animal. This fee covers the additional time required during the portrait session and the additional time required to select and edit the images.

Do you take portraits of humans as well? We sure do. Many of our clients want portraits of themselves with their pets. We also shoot humans on their own.
