Software interfaceThe interface of 3DS Max can be changed and moved around to suit any user’s needs by going into the Customize tab at the top of the User Interface and can be changed in a large variety of ways, below is an example of how my personal 3DS Max is customized to my liking.

You are also able to create shortcuts for yourself within this customization tab in the Keyboard and Mouse sections of it.Within 3DS Max however you can also move and manipulate the scale/position of your viewports to your liking, below is an image of how I personally prefer to work with my own viewport positions.

Also available in 3DS Max is the ability to get Floating Toolbars that have a variety of options for you to utilize, these can be dragged and dropped into the sides of your UI to place them there but for the sake of this explanation I have put all of them in the middle for display. These can be found in the Show UI tab of the Customize Tab I mentioned before.

In the user face there is also the ability to snap your shapes to corners of your Grid Squares by pressing the Snap Toggle icon shown below:

Another thing that the Snap Toggle can be used for is changing the size of your Grid by right clicking on it and pressing the Home Grid tab along the top, now even though you can change the ‘size’ of your Grid to change the Units of Measurement for your project you need to go into the Customize tab and press the Unit Setup option:

Naming Conventions:When creating an object or environment it is important to name you objects so that you can easily find a single object in a group of them, this makes the entire creation process a lot easier on yourself so you should make sure you are doing this along the way.For Example when creating a gun you should name the shapes and objects that make the gun up something a little like these examples:GunPart_MagazineGunPart_BarrelGunPart_SightsGunPart_TriggerHowever if you’re building multiple pieces of a single object to try and get multiple designs of a weapon created you should add number extensions such as 000,001,002 and so on and so forth.
