JAPANESE JOINERY
Cause there is a STRENGHT in UNITY.
At the same time people are constantly separating from each others, both physically
and mentally. What if we can SURVIVE only if we CONNECT?
One of the most important modern world’s challenges is dealing with climate crisis.
As constantly growing temperature causes rising sea level, in 100 years from now,
most of the lands we inhabit might be under water.
When workman’s floating space was found by Svalbard’s residents, they realized that
life in other circumstances is possible. Oddly enough, his house hide some
worthwhile mysteries - an AIR BUMP tucking away his goods and a JAPANESE
JOINERY workshop.
Because of a demand for a new place to live, they came up with extraordinary ideas.
Imagine a MODULE serving any function, which can be combined in multiple ways.
It can create a school, theatre, residential block, estate or even a hole city. Like a
JAPANESE JOINERY merge together pieces of timber, it connects SPACES and
PEOPLE.
Combining Snohetta’s Seed Vault’s idea with workman’s air bump gave them an
underwater space hosting a variety of valuable things regardless of water level.
