International Seminar: Contemporary SouthAsian Literature: Gender and Environment:

A Two Day International Seminar on Contemporary

South Asian Literature: Gender and Environment

was organized by the Department of English Ch. S.D.

St Theresa’s College for Women, Eluru on 24th and 25th

January 2019 in Collaboration with AdiKavi Nannaya

University, Rajamahendravaram.

Prof. Swarna Rachel Thirumalai,

Univ.of.Minnesota,U.S.A. as a Key note Speaker

delivered lecture on “Women And Ecology.” She

emphasized on the importance of women education in

third world countries, the way women are dominated in

the society, the importance of women Empowerment.

Prof.Sri.K.Ramesh, Univ.College of Arts and

Commerce, Adikavi Nannaya University was the

Convenor and Dr.R.Madhavi, H.O.D, Department of

English, Ch.S.D.St.Theresa’s College for Women, Eluru

was the Convener for the Seminar. Dr.Sr.Mercy.P.

Principal, welcomed the gathering. Rev.Sr.Lourdu Mary,

Correspondent and Superior gave her wishes for the

seminar and along with all the delegates released the

Conference Proceedings and the Journal. It was an

enriching and enlightening Seminar. Many of our Staff

and Students took part in it.

Students’ Block :

On line live course on “Hyper Spectral

Remote sensing and its Applications” IIRSoutreach programme:St. Theresa’s College has become the network

institute of IIRS Outreach network, ISRO,Dehradun,

Department of Space, Government of India during

December 2018.  Dr.A.Nirmala Jyothsna, HOD of

Physics and Electronics is the Coordinator of our

institute for the  Outreach Programme.The

department of Physics has taken charge of

registering the students for this course and making

arrangements to run this programme.. Altogether 31

participants comprising of 13 physics and computer

faculty and 18 Physics cluster students have

participated in IIRS 41st distance learning course on

“Hyper Spectral Remote sensing and its Applications “

from 21st January to 1st February 2019.

Knowledge Plaza 2K19

On 22nd January, 2019 the Department of

Management Studies organized Knowledge Plaza

2K19, a management exhibition where the students

put up various stalls, exhibited their entrepreneurial

skills and gained hands on experience of doing a

business. The students exhibited the following stalls:

Accessories, Management Games, Food Plaza,

Creative Paper Corner, Nail Art, Arabic Mehendi, Tattoo

Art, Herbal Products and Photo Booth

Theatre Arts-Role Plays:Theatre Arts was conducted on 20th December, 2018,

9 th and 12 th January, 2019, respectively for the

students of I and II year MA English. The students

exhibited their talents in the following themes:

• Group Songs

• Role plays presenting the characters from various

classics of Literature.

• Mime on a Social Issue – Values Vs Technology

and

• Group dances

• Literary quiz was organized to enhance their in-

depth knowledge of the Literary fact which helps them

to prepare for various entrance examinations.

Field Trips:

The Department of Applied Sciences organized an

educational cum exposure trip to Delhi,

Agra,Amrurthsar from 28th December to 2nd January,

2019. About seventy six students visited Taj 

Mahal, madhura , golden temple, jalian

Wala bagh,  wagha border, khutub meenar,

Lotus temple, redfort, India gate, sashtri

Bhavan, rajghat, Shakti sthal, veer bhumi

etc. Four staff members accompanied

them. The students gained knowledge and

relaxed.

The Department of Zoology organized a study tour

to Kaikaluru Aquaponds and Atapaka Bird Sanctuary

on 8th January, 2019. III B.Sc Zoology, Botany ,

Chemistry Cluster and I B.Voc CALT students gained

the practical knowledge about the Management of

Culture ponds from Aquapond

owner and Dr.R.Indira. Students

also visited the breeding places

of Pelican birds at Atapaka Bird

Sanctuary.

Awareness Programmes:On 9th as well as 12th January, 2019 PG Department

of English conducted Alumni interaction for both I

and II year students with Ms S. Sri Pavani, MA English

2014-16, the University topper and gold medallion and

Ms B. Sai Likhita, MA English 2015-17, respectively.

They spoke about the efforts they put and underlined

the need for extensive use of library. Also asserted

The Final MBA students conducted surveys as a

part of their Live Projects on various retail outlets of

Eluru, such as D Mart, Reliance Trends, Pantaloons,

G.V Mall, Chandana Bros., R.S. Bros, Easy Buy to

know about their Retailing Strategies. This enabled

them to gather knowledge

about the existing

opportunities in Retail Sector

by interacting with the

owners of the malls.

Internship programme:Department of Physics and Electronics  organized

an Internship programme on “Embedded Systems

and its Designing “ for M.Sc Physics students  and III

B.Sc.Cluster Electronics students in Collaboration with

MICROLINK, Vijayawada from 21st January to 5th

February 2019 during which the  students were given

hands on experience by doing projects related to

Embedded Systems along with theoretical concepts.

The students of I and II MBA viewed the  liveprogram on” Pariksha pe  Charcha” on 29th January,2019 by our Hon’blePrime Minister Mr.

Narendra Modi to createan awareness about theexamination system andways, the students shoulddeal with studies andexams.

Jesus Youth Programme:

Members of Jesus Youth attended cultural exchange

programme in Kerala organized by National Jesus

Youth from 14th - 31st December 2018. Ms Leema

Sofi, (III MBCS), Ms. Nirmala jyothi(III H.Sc), Ms Vijaya,

Ms.priyanka of I B.Sc. attended this programme.

It was a rich spiritual experience and exposure to

culture. Thanks to principal for sending students for

this kind of exchange program.

Guest Lecture:

Dr. M. Padmaja of Home Science Department gave

a talk to P.G Economic students on 8th January, 2019

on the topic “Reproductive Health”. The intention of

the lecture is to create an awareness among the

students about Family Planning Methods, Conception

and Statistics related to health etc…

As a part of Ayush club activity Department of

Applied Sciences organized  a guest talk on 21st

January, 2019 on the importance of yoga in day today

life, by Ms.Vijaya Ratna Kumari, lecturer in History.

Interactive Session:

Department of Social Sciences organized a Career

guidance session on 12th January, 2019 where Ms

P. Revathi, Assistant commercial tax officer, Vijayawada

had an interactive session with the students on the

prospects and career opportunities on group exams.

She discussed various ups and downs of process of

preparation for various competitlve exams.

Earn While You Learn:

B.Kiranmayi and B.Vasanthi of I B. Sc Home science

earned a handful of money by designing the palms

and arms by using Mehandi in a Mehandi function

through “Earn while you learn program”.

Achievements:

Gold Medal:

Ms. S. Sri Pavani, M.A.English secured seven Gold

Medals, Merit Certificate and Cash Prize for her

meritorious academic performance for the year 2014-

16. Let’s appreciate and congratulate her for her hard

work and dedication. She was awarded the medals in

85th and 86th Convocation held in January 2019. Kudos

to P.G. Department of English.

Activities Block :Janmabhoomi-Maavooru-2019:St. Theresa’s College 250 NSS volunteers from five

NSS Units participated in Jnamabhoomi-Maavooru-

2019 from 2nd to 11th January, in the allotted areas of

NSS Camp:

NSS Five units of our college conducted Special

camps from 6th to 12th January, 2019. The theme of

the special camp is “Technological development in

villages.” Special camps conducted in villages-Unit-I

at Chodemella village, Unit-II-Gavaravaram, Unit-III

at Duggirala, Unit-IV at Sanivarapupet, Unit-V at

Dondapadu . They did village survey, house hold

survey, Rally on Importance of vote in democracy,

interacted with school children, Each one teach one,

Interacted with parents of school

children, interacted with

villagers, conducted medical

camps, conducted awareness

campaign on how to identify

leprosy and medication for it,

preventive measures etc.

Consultancy and Workshop:

The Department of Zoology in association with Eco

Aqua Lab, Eluru organized a one day Consultancy

and Workshop on 10th January, 2019 to Aqua farmers

and Aqua trainers on Organic Vannamei Farming in

West Godavari District. Dr.A. Satyanarayana, Aqua

consultant and Mr B. Ravi Kuma, from GS2 R Marine

Aqua Solutions, Visakhapatnam trained on Organic

Vannamei Culture and in technical session on

“Application of Probiotics” . Later, an interactive session

was conducted with Aqua farmers, Subject experts and

Students. Aqua farmers shared their experiences and

clarified their doubts regarding Vannamei Farming.

About 100 students from Zoology cluster and B.Voc

Clinical and Aqua Lab Technology students, 25 Aqua

farmers near Eluru mandal and Faculty from Eco Aqua

lab and Zoology Department participated actively.

Eluru Municipal Corporation 38 Wards and 12 villages

around our college. They extended their helping hand

to the people in filling the application forms, providing

awareness on health and hygiene, different

Government Schemes, Importance of education in

human life, water conservation, plantation, Sanitation,

ODF etc. Also organized awareness rally on

SWACHHA THA HI SEVA from

Power pet Railway Station to Eluru New bus stand.

These programmes were organized by College NSS

Coordinator Dr.M.Rama, NSS programme officers

Mrs.B.Mariamma, Mrs.R.Jagadeeswari,

Mrs.V.Sravanthi and Mrs. G.Suneetha.

Pongal Celebration:

Pongal was celebrated on 11th January, 2019 in

Akarsh Club, Department of Home Science. I B.Sc

Home Science Students celebrated by painting

beautiful Rangoli Designs and III B.Sc Home Science

Students made Pongal Decoration.

National voters day 2019

Department of social sciences organized an

awareness programme on 9th National Voters Day

on 25th January, 2019 .M.R.O Sri. Chandra Sekhar

Rao gave a talk on National Voters day . He gave

awareness on Voter Enrollment and stressed the

responsibilities of youth towards voting system.

Students enacted a Skit on Political Parties -Voters

behavior in Elections , Dr.sr. Mercy Principal also

advised the students to enroll their names in the

voters list and secured the power to make a better

government . The Department conducted Essay

writing and elocution competitions and distributed

prizes .

Cultural Programme for Seminar:

In the International Seminar on “South Asian

literature: Gender and Environment” under the

guidance of Mrs. M.K. Padma Lata, HOD of PG

English, the students of I and II MA English

performed culturals by presenting an abridged stage

adaptation of an Elizabethan classic “Dr. Faustus”

written by Christopher Marlowe and a Mime titled “Be

ready for change – but do not change your values”.

A Day amidst HIV Children :

On the eve of National Youth Day Mrs.R.Chittemma

and Mrs.P . Lakshmi Prasanna along with 20 Red

Cross volunteers visited Ravi Teja HIV Aids children

home on 12 th December 2019 and distributed sweets

, fruits ,biscuits, chocolates and nutritious food to the

children . On behalf of Youth Red Cross donated some

money to the AIDS home. Later, organized some

cultural programmes like singing and dancing.

State Level Youth Festival: St. Theresa’s College

was one of the venues for the conduct of the State

Level Youth Festival organized by the District Youth

Services, West Godavari District. Many Staff partici-

pated in organizing the event.
