Christian Illumination By Father Luke Melackrinos

“Then this is the message which we have heard of Him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.” (1 John 1:5)

As we celebrated the great feast of the Epiphany (Θεοφάνια), we of course commemorate the Baptism of Our Lord, God and Savior Jesus Christ. It is referred to as the feast of lights in Greek for many reasons. Our loving God is beyond all limitations and human reasoning, yet is personal and immediately knowable when our hearts and minds reach out to Him. And He is manifest goodness without limitation, and “without spot or wrinkle.” There is no darkness, evil, or imperfection in Him or in His Creation as He has made it. This goodness is immeasurable and Eternal. Lesser understandings see eternal dualities, but Christians truly know that all illumination comes from God and that the perception of this light is in the Light Itself, God shining in this world and in the next. Christ was born and lived in this world to bring the light of Heavenly understanding to all who will receive it, for He Himself, according to St. Basil, is the icon of God the Father. As we say meaningfully in the Nicene Creed, “…light of light, true God of true God.…” We also take a moment to remember our own Christian baptism during this feast and as we begin a new year. Christian baptism is called illumination too because it reveals God’s light within us, preparing us for a life with God here and forever. Let us open our minds and hearts to receive this gentle gladsome light of Jesus Christ, the glory of the Immortal Father, with thanksgiving, love, and praise. May He make us bright with His radiance and transparent with His love. So, as we journey into 2014, another year of goodness of the Lord, we go forth with prayers for enlightenment for all of us. As we know, though, enlightenment is not something that happens passively. The Church in her wisdom know that we have fallen into our post-holiday routines and now calls us to wake up to partake in the Light and Life of our Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christ. While we partook of the rebirth through Holy Baptism, we now begin our journey towards Great and Holy Lent. The journey begins with the preparatory

Sundays of the Triodion period. We begin with the Sunday of the Publican and the Pharisee. Here our beloved Church teaches us the value of humility and put aside the pride of the Pharisee and emulate the simple prayer of the Publican, “God have mercy on me a sinner.” The following Sunday is the Sunday of the Prodigal Son. This lesson causes us to focus on returning out of the pigpen of our sinful lives to our loving Father. We are next reminded of God’s judgment on Judgment Sunday, and wrap up our Pre-Lenten Preparation with Forgiveness Sunday. After our “Apokreatiko Glendi” on March 2, we will begin our Lenten journey in earnest with Forgiveness Vespers at 8:30 p.m. If you have not attended this uplifting service, do not miss out this year. Beyond the beauty of the Vespers, at the end of the service we gather in a circle and ask each other for forgiveness. On Clean Monday, March 3, we will be hosting the Clergy of the area for a Holy Unction service. This service traces its roots all the way back to Apostolic times and is prayed for the healing of soul and body for all who are suffering. That evening, and every evening the first week of Lent, we will pray the Great Compline Service with parts of the Great Canon of St. Andrew of Crete. On Wednesday evenings in Lent, we have the great blessing of praying the Liturgy of the Pre-Sanctified Gifts. We begin with the Ninth Hour at 6:00 p.m. followed by the Liturgy at 6:30 p.m. Immediately following the services, we have a Lenten Meal with a Lenten Lecture Series. The speakers this year include: Fr. Demetrios Carellas, Fr. Martin Kraus, Gerontissa Foteini of All Saints Monastery, and Mother Maria of St. Mary of Egypt Monastery in Uganda! These promise to be fulfilling and inspiring lectures. On the Fridays of Lent, we will pray the Liturgy of the Pre-Sanctified Gifts in the morning, and the Salutations to the Virgin Mary at 7:00 p.m. Ask yourself how you can make this Lent different? What efforts will you put forth? What will you teach your children about Lent? Thankfully, we are here to help. Our children will be invited to participate in the Lenten Passport Program, where they get stickers for each service attended. I pray that you all have a blessed Lent and a glorious journey to Holy Pascha!

Greetings In The Lord!By Father Panagiotis Zougras

I pray this New Year began with many of the Lord’s Blessings of love, health, peace and happiness to you and your families. I could not be any more proud of the youth of our community

as they brought out the past year by filling the hearts of so many with the love and grace of the Holy Spirit. I will begin by thanking each and everyone of you as you all responded to our call for donations of winter coats for children. The children of our JOY Program provided a huge box for the collection of coats and the response was overwhelming. We were able to fill the box a week early and then we delivered them to our local Mary Brennen Inn. These coats were then distributed to the needy children of the Hempstead area. I would also like to thank the community for the support and love you all showed Dean Yeostros, an exemplary young man who serves in our altar. He is also a GOYAn and Scout who is now working on the highest achievement of the Scouting Program, “Eagle Scout”. He had spoken during first and second liturgy asking the community to give financial support in order for him to purchase materials needed in order to paint the downstairs hallway of our Cathedral. Once again the community generously responded and made it possible to get all the materials he needed in order to complete this project. Dean worked very hard with the help of his fellow scouts and members of the community to finish the task at hand and he did a wonderful job. Downstairs is now a better place for our organizations to meet, I strongly encourage everyone to go downstairs and look at the completed job. His fellow Scout, Harris Cherpelis was honored on January 5th for achieving his Eagle Scout. Harris renovated the basement of the Cassis building which is now being used for our Greek School Dance Program.

The GOYAns hosted the Cancer Care Christmas Party for the children at Winthrop. Fifty children from the Pediatric Cancer Care Unit were invited to the Father Nicholas Magoulias Center, along with their families, to partake in an amazing Christmas event. The children made arts and crafts, danced and ate with our GOYAns. They received a very special visit from Santa Claus who delivered gifts to all the children. Our GOYAns made a $500 donation to the Winthrop Cancer Care Unit. I would like to thank Nicole Rousakis, Kay Georgopalis and Maria Vorkas for all of their hard work to make this event possible.

The GOYAns celebrated the Christmas season together by going to Winter Wonderland in Bayville and having two Christmas parties, one just for the GOYAns of St. Paul Cathedral and another one with all the GOYAns of Long Island which was held at Archangel Michael church. They also had an Advent Retreat at St. John the Baptist in Bluepoint. Students from Holy Cross

attended this event and worked with the GOYAns with the focus on Diakonia and which included a service project for the local homeless. Our JOY and HOPE children also had a Christmas Party on December 13th.

The Nuns of All Saints Monastery were gracious enough to come to our parish on a Friday evening and teach our children of the JOY program how to make komboskinia. The children learned prayers and had the opportunity to speak to the Sisters about monastic life and the daily chores of being a monastic. The GOYAns were taught how to make prosforo. They learned the prayer that is read as you make the prosforo as well as learning the importance of this offering which we make to our Lord before each liturgy.

For the first time ever, the Inter GOYA of Long Island, along with the Five Borough GOYA, attended a Ski Trip together. There was over 200 in attendance and the children had the opportunity to see friends and make new friends from other communities. The children had a great time attending the dance, pool party with ice cream, 4 on 4 basketball tournament, Water Park, tubing and, of course, skiing and snowboarding. Liturgically, we celebrated Orthos and Vespers together as well as having devotionals in the evening with the children. The highlight of the trip was celebrating Sunday Liturgy at Agia Skepi Monastery. Attending this liturgy was an amazing experience for us all and the Sisters were kind enough to invite all 200 of us for brunch and giving each one of us an icon and a komboskini.

In closing, I hope you can all attend our Annual Apokreatiko Glendi Dinner Dance on Sunday March 2nd in the Father Nicholas J. Magoulias Center. This year it will be hosted by the JOY Program and will be led by Andrea Pagonis, Athena Menoundakos and Stephanie Danill. I hope to see you all there!

Our Journey to the Great FastBy Deacon Mathew Kakis By the time you are sharing this article, we will be in the pre-lenten season and quickly approaching the Great Fast. Our church spends three weeks of preparation by delving strongly into her most basic

theme, forgiveness. Within this one one word, we encompass humility, repentance, compassion, charity, faith and the greatest of all, love. It is only through the love of our Heavenly Father and the Grace of His Son, our Lord Jesus Christ and the communion of the Holy Spirit that we can understand this theme. From Genesis we read the proclamation, “Let us make man (male and female) in our image and according to our likeness”. (1:26). It is through the inspiration and obedience of the Holy Prophets, Apostles, Fathers, Mothers, Martyrs and ascetics throughout history that we have this incomparable inheritance to somehow appreciate and continue our existence. Let us pause and reflect for a moment. The poor soul, who proclaims atheism, simply cannot embrace the frailty of his fellow man. In such a situation, how can he or she find the heavenly force of love to forgive? I firmly believe that if the atheist is able to love and forgive, then he or she is unaware that Holy Spirit is working with love, within themselves.

The pre-lenten scriptures deal with the Prodigal Son ,The Publican and The Pharisee, The Last Judgment and finally Forgiveness Sunday when we hear Jesus say “if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will forgive you but if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses”. (Matthew 6:14). It need not be reminded that our Lord’s Prayer confirms this throughout the liturgical cycle. At every liturgy, the priest asks prayers for forgiveness to the faithful before the Great Entrance and before he approaches the body and blood of our Lord.

Here at St. Paul and at many other Orthodox communities, it has been a secular tradition to celebrate an Aprokeatiko Glendi in a carnival atmosphere just prior to “Clean Monday”. While this is a day of family fun, the Orthodox Church in its wisdom, proclaims and sets it aside as “Forgiveness Sunday”. It calls us to remember our sins, not only, to God, but to anybody and everybody and at the same time, those who may have hurt us. We must completely forgive them all so that we may be forgiven by our Lord. This is a glorious cleansing. We forgive and the hurt no longer burdens our soul. We are free from the pain of this fallen world and are able to approach His Kingdom where only His love and joy exists just as the choir of saints before us have gone.

We must never forget as each of us is led to our final resting place that the priest prays the profound words, “As a good and loving God, forgive every sin he (she) has committed in thought word or deed, for there is no one who lives and does not sin. You alone are without sin and your is an everlasting righteousness and your word is truth, Amen.”

Forgiveness and love is our inheritance, our treasure in heaven. Moth and rust cannot consume it and no one can steal it. For where our treasure is, there will our hearts be also. (Mathew 6:19-21).

From the Parish Council PresidentBy William J. Lembo

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Christmas season.

We said goodbye to 2013 and welcomed the New Year with dinner at Jonathan’s Restaurant. April Mavrovitis and Olga Georgakis organized a superb evening. The Mavrikis family, as always, were extraordinary hosts.

We kicked the New Year into gear with a fantastic Vasilopita Dinner Dance at the Chateau Briand. Our own virtuoso, Andrew Andron, entertained everyone during the cocktail hour with non-stop piano music. DJ George Marchelos kept the music coming and parishioners of all ages filled the dance floor throughout the evening. Thank you to Chris Katehis and his hard-working committee (Fran Lutfy, Kay Georgopalis, Nicole Rousakis & Maria Vorkas) for presenting a fabulous evening of great food and fun.

Thank you to all of the parishioners and local businesses who supported our 64th Annual Church Journal. Chairperson Carol DePietto did an outstanding job compiling and producing a terrific publication with help from her committee (Liz Comack, Irene & Jim Ginis and George Zakos).

I hope to see everyone at the Aprokreatiko Glendi on March 2nd, the Cathedral Cup on March 8th or maybe we will march together in the Greek Independence Day Parade on March 30th. Certainly we will worship together in Church and pray for another blessed year for our Cathedral.

Please continue to support your Church with your time, talent and treasure. Whenever I think about stewardship, a story that Father Nick often put in the bulletin comes to mind:

Our church was saddened to learn this week of the death of one of our most valued members, Someone Else.

“Someone’s” passing creates a vacancy that will be difficult to fill. Whenever there wasa job to do, a class to teach, a meeting to attend, or money to give, one name was on everyone’s list, “Let ‘Someone Else’ do it.”

Someone Else was a wonderful person; almost superhuman. Everybody expected too much of Someone Else. Now Someone Else is gone!

Someone Else left a wonderful example to follow, but who is going to do the things Someone Else did?

When you are asked to help this year, remember -- we can’t depend on Someone Else anymore.

χρονια πολλα και ευτηχισμενα! On behalf of St. Anna’s I wish you and your loved ones a joyous 2014 filled with the Lord‘s blessings!

St. Anna’s Philoptochos has been working diligently to try to make a difference in the life of a sick child, bring a little joy to a senior and make life a little easier for a needy family. With your ongoing support we were able to fulfill those obligations through different events. What have we been doing?

We held a Christmas Wreath (Dec.8) and Christmas Bake Sale (Dec.15). Both were very successful .

Although the weather and driving conditions were horrendous, we achieved our goal nonetheless and the children at St. Mary’s Healthcare System for Children and the Greek division of UNICEF will benefit from our Christmas Luncheon which was held on Dec. 10, 2013.

The children of St. Basil Academy, a safe haven and home for Orthodox children, will benefit from your generosity from the collection tray passed on Jan. 5, 2014.

March 1st will mark the Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting of the Philoptochos Center of Philanthropy located at 126 East, 37th Street, Manhattan.

March always proves to be a busy month for St. Anna’s. March 8th we will be hosting the Psychosavato Brunch in memory of our deceased members. March 15/16 is the services of the Tearing Icon followed by a reception. March 25 we celebrate the Evangelismos tis Thetokou with liturgy followed by a Nistissimo Luncheon. Please join us to celebrate these important days.

over the years. Kay and Father Nicholas Magoulias, of blessed memory, created the Grief & Bereavement Support Group nearly 20 years ago, a program that has helped countless individuals deal with their grief, and Cookie assisted Kay with the recordkeeping for many years and has been an invaluable friend to the program and to all of us.

Following the presentations, a lovely reception was held in the Father Nicholas J. Magoulias Cathedral Center where Chaplain Eglon Angel, of the Bereavement Support Program at Winthrop Hospital, presented an excellent, informative talk on ‘Coping with Loss During the Holiday.’

The Saint Paul’s Grief & Bereavement Support Group meets each month on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday evenings at 7:30 PM and on the 3rd Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 PM. All are welcome to attend.

Grief & Bereavement Support GroupBy Anna Dounelis

It’s A New Year…So What!

One New Year’s Day, a few years after my husband had passed away, a dear friend of mine called to wish me a Happy New Year. During our conversation, she told me that I was too young to spend the rest of my life alone and she hoped I’d meet someone else. I was stunned! How could she suggest such a thing? How could I ever do that? It would be an act of betrayal! After all, I was still married in my heart, mind and soul. I knew my friend spoke out of love and concern for me but she just didn’t understand my feeling of loss and how difficult it is to continue living without the one you love.

A New Year for many people can mean hopefulness and a chance to begin anew and they make New Year’s resolutions hoping that the New Year will be better than the last! They look forward with excitement and anticipation to what may lie ahead. However, those who are grieving tend to look back rather than look forward and they may feel a sense of hopelessness, knowing that life will never be the same and often longing for what was lost. Even the thought of going on may make them feel as though they are betraying or letting go of their loved one.

Those who are grieving need to remember that January 1st is just another day and that day has no meaning except what we choose to give it. As we face a new year, we can hope and pray to find a sense of peace and comfort in dealing with our sorrow, the strength to take life one day at a time and being ever thankful to God for the joy our loved one brought into our life. We can look for ways to help others, and in that way, we can help ourselves heal as we continue our grief journey.

The Annual Memorial Christmas Tree Prayer Service was held on Wednesday, December 19th, and we thank Father Luke and Father Peter for a beautiful service. Afterwards, bouquets of roses were presented to Kay Pamas and Rose “Cookie” Vaream with our most sincere appreciation and on behalf of all who have benefited from the Grief & Bereavement Program

Over the past 56 years, the seventeen women in the Recipe Club published four books. ALL the royalties that these four cookbooks have generated has been given to our community treasury with specific usages. Some of these include the fact that they were major donors for the elimination of the Mortgage Fund and the Project Renaissance Drive. They annually support the Pastry Tent in our Festivals. (In years gone by, they used to coordinate and bake, with the help of our parishioners, the desserts for the Bazaars.) Some of the items they purchased for the church include several mosaics, chandeliers, the downstairs kitchen, the restoration of our front patio, our “name” sign in front of our church and our beautiful organ!

The first three books are now considered “collectors’ items” and no new ones are available. They were: “The Grecian Gourmet”, “The Art of Greek Cookery” and “The Regional Cuisines of Greece”, published by Doubleday. Their latest book is “The Complete Book of Greek Cooking”, published by Harper Collins. It is sold in our church office by mail and on line through Amazon and Barnes and Noble.

There continues to be a great interest in our books and just last month a long article in the “National Herald” discussed the book and highlighted two of their recipes with photos and instructions. The Recipe Club story and three of their recipes were also recently featured in a Food Network television show.

Homebound MinistryBy Joan Prieston

The holiday celebration of the Homebound Ministry was truly exceptional. The members attended the Divine Liturgy and received the Holy Gifts with their family member or their aide. Following, they proceeded to the Rev. Nicholas Magoulias Center for the traditional luncheon which was prepared for them by our chef Lou Patrickakos and his assistants. We welcomed several new member who were obviously happy with our program. They were treated to a special musical program by two members of our youth program, Andreas Petrides on the violin and Steven Pagonis on the saxophone. They entertained everyone with songs from Broadway musicals as well as Greek songs, much to the delight of the members. The afternoon was a memorable one and everyone left looking forward to the upcoming Holiday Season.

School of Religious EducationBy Joan Prieston

The fall season was a very busy one for the Sunday School. On Saturday, November 23, the students attended the annual Divine Liturgy and received the Holy Gifts with their classmates. Following, they enjoyed the Communion Breakfast in the Hellenic Room which was prepared for them by the committee.

On Saturday, November 23 and Sunday November 24, the annual Holiday Boutique was held in the Father Nicholas Magoulias Center. The parishioners generously supported the event by purchasing the handmade articles which were lovingly created by the Tuesday Ladies, the homemade pastries, the array of religious articles and, of course, our vintage items in Yiayia’s Attic. Always very popular were the freshly baked cheese and spinach pitas which were enjoyed by many with their Fellowship coffee! The pivotal moment on Sunday was the Raffle Drawing with the lucky winners leaving happily with their prizes!

The Christmas Season was again celebrated by our students with excitement and festivities. They enjoyed their Christmas Party with the delicious goodies which were donated by Georgia Gilas, something she has done for us for over 40 years! Santa Claus, again, paid his jolly visit, much to the joy of our younger students!

The students then entertained the parishioners with the special holiday program which included a special presentation by our Greek School students and conducted by Maria Vennis, one of their teachers. The annual Christmas Pageant by chairperson Virginia Pourakis, a project which she has presented for many years, was beautifully performed by our students. Wearing the authentic costumes added to the beauty of the portrayal of the Holy Nativity. Needless to say, a great deal of effort was made by all to make this program a success. God Bless them for their faith and their dedication.

The Sunday school extends to all a very Happy and Healthy New Year!

Recipe Club NewsBy Kathy Boulukos, Chairperson

With the new year upon us, the Recipe Club has donated 80 new Divine Liturgy books to be used in church for our parishioners. These books replace the previous ones that had also been donated several years ago along with the hymnal books which are also being used today. These liturgy books have been published by Holy Cross Orthodox Press, part of our Seminary School of Theology.

The St. Paul’s Choir Restoration ProjectBy Nicholas George

On January 14, 2014, a professional consultant hired by the Executive Board began a very thorough inspection of the infrastructure of our Cathedral Choir. We are saddened to report that several problems were found in the Choir’s existing structure.

The following are of major concern:1-The foundation of the choir is now 70+ years old. Not only is much of the foundation unable to sustain the existing rigors of use, but it is also tilting to the south.2- Serious cracks in two (2) important sections are making it increasingly difficult for the foundation to continue bearing the weight of the rich musical mosaics that it once supported.3- The remaining pillars of the foundation have become too few in number to support two (2) Divine Liturgies each Sunday. Inspection shows that splitting the pillars into two has weakened the entire support structure.4- New support pillars are desperately needed in all four corners of the choir loft to help bolster the existing foundation.

Of course, these findings are troublesome and quite serious. For those who may not understand the technical jargon, the consultant offered a layman’s explanation: “Our findings conclude that the average member of St. Paul’s Choir is now higher than retirement age. Many of its talented members have already moved to the warmer climates in south Florida while others still located in the immediate area have ceased to participate due to health or personal reasons. Splitting the group in half to provide for two liturgies (especially tenors and basses) further dilutes the sound of the group and further limits musical choices. Conclusion: talented replacements in all four voice parts must be found if the present level of service to the Cathedral is to be maintained.”

By now, you must understand our tongue and cheek message!

If you would like to hear a full, majestic CHOIR at services, it is time to help by offering your voice or by helping to recruit new members who are talented and can sing. Everyone knows a good singer who perhaps is a bit shy and needs a bit of encouragement to join! Adult or still in school….if you are a regular church goer with choral experience or an instrumentalist who can sing, consider joining our choir today! We will love you like no other organization will!

In early December, our Chapter had a wonderful tree trimming party in the Hellenic Room which we decked “to the nines” for Christmas. It was a fun night with wine, cheese and laughs. Thank you to all the Sisters who participated in our decorating, particularly our chairpersons, Julie Raptakis and Marina Heliotis. We held an initiation of our newest members, Erika Hadjoglou Palmer, Anna Theofilaktidis , Christina Vasilakis Tavoulareas and Margaret Zanone. We also held a Christmas Party two weeks later. Thank you, Corie Commander, for chairing this lovely night and for the attendance and assistance of our AHEPAN brothers, clergy, President Bill Lembo and VP Tony Vaccari and their lovely wives. A portion of proceeds from our events was donated to the St. Demetrios fire relief and to the Penelope House, which helps victims of domestic abuse.

Our Chapter attended a very special day at St. Basil’s Academy, where we visited with the young lady that we sponsor, watched a touching Christmas Pageant performed by the children and also we presented gifts to the children. Finally, our Chapter was honored to attend liturgy and a lovely lunch at Three Hierarchs in Brooklyn where we celebrated Founder’s Day. On February 12th, our Chapter celebrated “Girls Night Out” at the Seventh Street Café. It was a fun night, full of laughs and great food. Our next annual event is our annual Pot Luck dinner. More details will follow by mail.

WE CARE Cancer Support GroupBy Joanne Vagelatos, Chairperson

Whenever a person is diagnosed with cancer, questions start being asked. Questions like: Why me? How could this happen? I eat healthy and exercise regularly, why is this happening to me? I go to church every Sunday, how can God allow this to happen? What did I do to deserve this? We may never find the answers to these questions. What we do know is that our faith in God and prayer will help us get through whatever we are faced with in life.

For this reason, we begin our WE CARE meetings with a Paraklesis service to the Panaghia, asking the Mother of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to intercede on our behalf.

When we are diagnosed with a serious disease, we get upset and frustrated. We realize how powerless we really are. We start questioning our relationship with God. When we reach this point, we have to remember to pray and to put our whole faith and trust in God. Our life is in His hands. He is in charge and He will guide our steps through the good times and the difficult times.

I hope that you will join us at the Paraklesis services to pray, not only for your own wellbeing, but for the wellbeing of your family members and friends who are going through difficult times. We meet after Paraklesis services to discuss a variety of topics, including the lives of saints, nutrition, current health issues and concerns.

Solon SocietyBy C. Dionysios Dionou, President

The Solon Society opened it’s fall 2013 season with a joint meeting. We partnered with AHEPA Chapter #170, in a celebration and remembrance of October 28th, Oxi Day, Greece’s entry into World War II, when our people were attacked by Italian Military forces. Our victory over the aggressor was the first Allied victory against the Axis powers. Members enjoyed a detailed lecture on Oxi Day followed by a question and answer period. Light refreshments were served.

In December I was awarded the St. Barbara’s Medal. Saint Barbara is the patron saint of field artillery soldiers worldwide. I am a serving officer in the 9th Field Artillery New York. The unit was founded in 1790 by the veterans of George Washington’s Artillery Batteries. The 9th Field Artillery is one of nine historical military commands in the United States Army and served as the Honor Guard of the governor of the state of New York.

The Solon Society meets the second Thursday of the month unless otherwise indicated. We begin at 8:00 PM and our lectures start at 8:30 PM. We look forward to seeing you there.

Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Saint Paul’s 2014 Annual Festival - Save the Date! The dates of our 2014 Festival are Thursday, May 29, 2014 through Sunday, June 1, 2014.

It is once again time for the Cathedral of Saint Paul’s Annual Greek Festival. Planning for our 2014

Festival is well underway! As always, we rely on good weather and we know that our Clergy is hard at work to make that happen. But equally important is the dedication of all our Volunteers who work hard

to ensure that our Guests have a wonderful time over the four days in late May and early June.

Our Guests can expect to experience Greek Culture by tasting authentic Greek Foods, Souvlaki and Greek Pastries, including our Famous Loukoumades, or by enjoying Greek Music and Dance. If American Fare is more your style, you can stop by our Chicken Fingers & Fries or Hamburgers & Hot Dogs Tents. Take a guided Church Tour of our beautiful Cathedral which is adorned by magnificent Mosaics in the true Byzantine style. We also offer Shopping in our “Agora” Marketplace or our huge Air Conditioned Flea Market. There is also a wide variety of Rides and Games for the children as well as a Beer Garden

and Wine & Cheese Tent for the adults. You can also test your skill at our Ring Toss!

Our Co-Chairmen, Tony Vaccari and George Zakos are working through the planning process and are anxious to hear from any and all volunteers to assist in preparations.

Please stop by or call the Cathedral Office at 516-483-5700 if you would like more information on

Sponsorship opportunities or know of a Vendor who would want to reserve a space in our “Agora” to reach over 10,000 attendees.
