Words from our President…

Greetings and Happy Holidays to All of You!

Winter is now upon us and the show season has slowed to a crawl. I wish all of our members and their

families the very happiest of holidays and a safe new year.

The major thing I would like to talk about this issue is membership. We have many ISRBA members who do

not belong to local and/or breed specialty clubs. If you are one of these members please consider joining one

of these clubs. Local clubs and specialty clubs can always use new members. It takes a huge amount of

manpower to put on shows, and some clubs are doing it with very small numbers of people. Meetings for

these clubs can be very informative and even educational. Most clubs have one or two shows a year, so the

time required of you to help out is not great, but would surely be greatly appreciated.

Speaking of workers…we need someone to volunteer to be the show superintendent for the State Convention

show next fall in Eldora. We also need members to know that volunteers are needed for set-up and tear-

down. Set-up is usually on Friday starting in the late afternoon. It doesn’t take that long if there is a group to

do it. Please think about coming to the show early to help with set-up or staying after the show to help put it

all away. You can contact me or let your director know if you are interested in being the superintendent.

I mentioned in my last letter that I would like to start some sort of membership contest in the state. If you are

interested in this, or have ideas regarding how to go about starting it, please contact your director.

Hard to believe we’re in the holiday season for 2011! Pretty soon 2012 will be here and spring shows

are just a couple months away! I hope those of you that were able to attend the ARBA Nationals in

Indianapolis, IN had a wonderful time. Adam and I had a blast – and had our first ever placings at an ARBA

convention so we were very pleased. Our MiniLop Solid Senior Doe REG GC AK WOEHL’S KA160 placed 16th

out of 117 in her class, and our MiniLop Broken Junior Doe AK WOEHL’s KA414 placed 15th out of 113 in her

class. A big congratulations goes out to ISRBA Members Dale and Pam Schmidt for their 1st and 2nd place

MiniLop Solid Senior Does (out of 117 in class) and also for winning BOV Solid. Do any of you have any

convention results or pictures you would like included in the HN? If so, please email them to me. I did

receive some that you will see elsewhere in this edition of the HN.

I want to extend a big THANK YOU to the NCIRFA club along with Katelyn & Kathy Launderville. Adam

and I had a crazy day as we were getting ready to leave for the show. I had rabbits packed and ready to go

and came back into the house to find Adam in excruciating pain. He ended up going to the ER so we didn’t

think we were going to be able to make the show. The doctor discovered Adam had a kidney stone that was

small enough to pass without surgery so 3 hours after our trip to the ER he had passed the stone and was

released. At that point I had called Katelyn to see if they had shown Open MiniLops and they hadn’t so Bobbi

Coats graciously agreed to let us come and show. Katelyn & Kathy completed our entries for us so Adam & I

are VERY appreciative to all of them for understanding our situation that day and being willing to help us out!

I just wanted to bring up a few reminders this issue. Any materials for submission should be provided

to the editor (Kendra) no later than the 1st of the month on even numbered months. The goal is to get the HN

mailed and emailed out to the membership no later than the 20th of the month on even numbered months.

Please note that I have a new email listed below so that all HN submissions can be kept separate from my

private email. Please DO NOT send any HN related items to akwoehl@q.com going forward.

Messages from the ISRBA Youth Advisor Committee 1. The 2011 ARBA National Youth Individual, Team and Royalty Contests encompassed hundreds of youth members throughout the three days of events in Indianapolis. Our Team Iowa youth showed great competition spirit, and each of our youth can be proud of their participation. Iowa had a large number of our youth with high scores that resulted in contests called backs on Monday. Iowa Youth winners:

National Creative Writing Award (for short story project) – NINA MORRIS Decorative Metal Work-Purple Ribbon Award (for metal rabbit project) – BJ JONES National Senior Achievement Award and District 3 Winner – ANDI WOLFE District 3 Mid-Size Management Award – ANDI WOLFE National 3rd Place Breed Identification Award – ZACH SAUER National 2nd Place Princess runner-up Royalty Contest – JOY WESTERCAMP 2. We will be placing youth photos of the 2011 National Youth Contests throughout the year in the HN. The National Youth T-Shirt design contest is always July 1. The National Youth Contests entries are due September 1. Team Contests entries are due to this Committee before September 1. We will have National and ISRBA Youth Contests information in the last spring issue of HN. You can review contests at arba.net and long on youth page. 3. For our Iowa Youth wanting to compete in State and National Youth Contests, this Committee recommends learning every terminology in the back of the Standard of Perfection, learn the breeds and varieties of Rabbits and Cavy, learn proper handling & judging procedures and practice judging Rabbit/Cavy Breeds, read every issue of the Domestic Rabbit and be sure to get on line at arba.net weekly to read the communication and update information. And be sure to keep your Standard of Perfection corrected and up to date. 4.
