Congratulations to the St. Joe’s Math Team on an incredible 2017-2018 season. St. Joe’s had six students finish in the

Top 10 of 95 mathletes in the West Metro Division of the Minnesota Junior

High Math League. Congratulations to Joe Meath (2nd place), Luke

Sonnek (5th), Jack McCarty (9th), Aidan Chambundabongse, Grant Hayes,

Noah Bonick (tied for 10th), and all of the St. Joe’s mathletes on an out-

standing season. Overall, the team finished in second place in the division.

The 8th grade students anchored the squad this year, but their example of

dedication and hard work appears to be rubbing off on the younger stu-

dents. Several sixth and seventh graders contributed this season and ap-

pear ready to have a strong showing in the West Metro Division next

year. The St. Joe’s Math Team is led by St. Joseph math teacher Kristi Kla-

witter and Ridgewater College math instructor Michael Sieve.

Teacher Feature!

Mrs. Jill Good earned her Bachelor’s degree in el-

ementary education from The College of St. Bene-

dict. She later graduated with a Master of Arts degree

in Education from St. Mary’s University. More recently,

Jill completed a graduate level STEM teaching certifi-

cation from St. Catherine University. Mrs. Good has

been teaching at St. Joseph Catholic School since

2001. She considers it a privilege to be a part of her stu-

dent’s educational and spiritual journeys. Jill is a strong

believer in the deep and lasting value of Catholic edu-

cation.

It is clear to parents and students that Mrs. Good loves her job. She continual-

ly works to refine her craft and she is continually on the look out for new and

exciting ways to teach and learn. Jill’s classroom is filled with joy and rigor.

Students engage in many inquiry -based activities that lead to deep learn-

ing. In the spring of 2017, Mrs. Good was honored with a Fox 9 Top Teacher

Award.

Children will come to better know, love, and serve the Lord with Mrs. Good

through prayer and service. Mrs. Good’s own children are St. Joseph School

students and alum.

A snip-it from our Alumni Spotlight Dan Philp ‘99 “This letter has been an interesting exercise in reflection and has helped crystallize my appreciation for the won-derful instruction and experiences I had during my time at St. Joe’s. When I was asked to write an update for the newsletter, I was given a list of questions to answer. While working my way through the list I had great diffi-culty sorting through my memories. It wasn’t until I start-ed at the beginning and intentionally worked my way for-ward through each year that I was able to gain perspec-tive. If I think back on the personal foundation St. Joe’s helped create, I have a difficult time pointing to specific formative events. The best I can do in this case is draw out three consistent themes that were pre-sent in my memories of each year - Service, Community, and Curiosity. These themes have shaped my life in a positive way and for that I am grateful.”
