1. CUT STRIPS AND GLUE UP BOARD
Purchase or mill boards to the thicknesses listed in the Material List. Each strip must be at least 17" long. Rip boards into 1" wide strips. Glue the strips together in the order shown in “Glue-Up Arrangement” on the previous page. (We recommend Titebond glue.) Do not include the 1/4" thick walnut boards in this glue-up. They will be the final sides of the board and will be attached later. Surface the board blank smooth on both sides after the glue has cured.
Use a router table equipped with a 3/4" diameter bit or use a table saw equipped with a 3/4" wide dado stack to cut the dadoes for storage spaces for the pegs and cards. Make several passes, raising the bit or blade 1/8" to 3/16" with each pass. Use a push block with a sacrificial backer board to push the assembly through the cut and prevent blowout as the bit exits the cut. (See “Storage Compartments” on previous page for dimensions.)
2. CUT THE STORAGE COMPARTMENTS

d 4. DRILL THE SCORING HOLES
Follow the instructions provided with the jig to properly position the jig and drill the rest of the holes. Be careful to keep the jig centered between the sides.
d 3. SET UP THE DRILLING JIG
Use the Rockler Small Cribbage Board Template (59160, sold separately) to drill the peg holes. Center the jig between the sides of the board and start with the jig positioned flush with the edge of the peg storage area (inset).

5. CUT BOARD IN TWO
6. MARK AND CUT OTHER END
Measure in 8" from the storage end of the board to mark the length of one half of the cribbage board. Crosscut the board. The blade should be centered between the first two sections of scoring holes (inset).
Use the 8" long storage end that you just cut to mark the length of the other end of the board and cut it to length.

7. DRILL FOR THE HINGES
8. ADD WALNUT EDGING
Attach the hinges to the two board halves. Position the hinges flush with the outside edges of the boards. Use a self-centering bit (inset) to drill pilot holes for the hinge screws.
8. Cut four 1/4" thick walnut strips 8-1/8" long. This is 1/8" longer than the cribbage board halves, but they will be trimmed after they are attached. Glue the outside walnut edge pieces to the board assemblies, aligning the one end of each piece flush with the face of the hinges to conceal the edges of the hinges. Here we used strips of plywood as clamping cauls to avoid marring the walnut edging.

d 9. ROUND THE OUTSIDE CORNERS
Remove the clamps after the glue has cured. Then remove the hinges and trim and sand the excess walnut strips flush with the outside ends of the boards. Leave the excess walnut on the hinge end of each board. Then round over the corners on a router table using a 3/16" round-over bit (inset). Use a push block with a sacrificial backer board to push the assembly through the cut and prevent blowout as the bit exits the cut.
10. DRILL FOR THE MAGNETS
Drill 3/8" dia. x 3/32" deep holes for the magnet catches. Use the magnets to verify the depth. Attach the magnets with CA glue or epoxy. (Make sure you choose two magnets with opposite polarities, so they attract rather than repel each other.)

11. APPLY FINISH
Mask the bottom of the storage trays with painter’s tape before applying a few coats of finish. In this case, we applied a natural Danish Oil finish. After the final coat of finish has dried, remove the tape and install the peel and stick felt.
12. GET READY TO PLAY!
Add Rockler’s Deluxe Cribbage Pegs (59820, sold separately) and a deck of cards to the built-in storage compartments, and you’re all set for fun on your next road trip or vacation!
