The National Institute for Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (ni-msme) organized a training cum study tour programme on “Beneficiary’s Capacity Building on Savings, Economic Group Management and Empowerment” sponsored by Save the Children International for National Cash Transfer Office (NCTO), Federal Government of Nigeria from 09-14 December, 2019.

The Programme Director, Dr. Shreekant Sharma during the inaugural function shared with the participants about the rich history of ni-msme in international training. He said, “This programme is one of its kind, as it has an objective to strengthen the capacity of NCTO Officers at both federal and States levels for effective implementation of savings schemes and group mobilization”.

During the programme, the NCTO Officers got an opportunity to interact and learn from the stakeholders’ perspective about the various cash transfer programs. They also learnt from first-

hand experiences from a wide range of stakeholders about the challenges faced by beneficiaries in the cash transfer programme. Sessions by experts explored topics like new approaches and methods in administration, tracking and management of savings groups and entrepreneurial skill development. Participants were taken on field visits to meet beneficiaries, Self Help Groups (SHGs) especially women saving groups, Telangana Cooperative Bank, Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC) along with a tour of the Hyderabad city and fun time at a recreation park- Ramoji Film City.

Dr. Dibyendu Choudhury, Programme Director distributed the certificates at the valedictory function held on 14th December 2019 during which the participants expressed gratitude for the memorable time and hospitality they received at ni-msme. They wanted to have more such programmes and collaborations in future.

The Institute introduced the initiative of membership for the use of its SENDOC library way back around the turn of millennium. The members are allowed the privilege of using the reading and reference sections of the library, as well as the use of open grounds annexed to SENDOC, for reading, pondering and discussion. The main objective was to help young college graduates of different disciplines to make career decisions through cool contemplation and mutual idea-sharing in a peaceful setting without distractions – one of them may be motivated to opt for an entrepreneurial career!

Most of the users are, however, fresh technical and professional graduates preparing for advanced examinations that would help give a decisive turn to their careers. A recent happy outcome is, 17 members, who were preparing for CA Final, qualified successfully. Medicine students who appeared for PG entrance qualified and 2 students are selected for AIIMS, allotted for (PGI- Chandigarh).

A few of them expressed their opinions about the facilities and conveniences of the campus. They state in one voice that the atmosphere at the campus is extremely suitable for concentration, contemplation and knowledge acquisition, that the staff and functionaries are friendly and reaching out, that they have a comfortable time. The setting is fully oriented to focusing with clarity on equipping themselves well for the chosen pursuit.

The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sector is

highly vibrant and dynamic sector of the Indian economy.

MSMEs not only play crucial role in providing large

employment opportunities at comparatively lower capital cost

than large industries but also help in industrialization of rural &

backward areas, thereby, reducing regional imbalances,

assuring more equitable distribution of national income and

wealth. The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises

promotes the development of micro and small enterprises in the

country with the objective of creating self-employment

opportunities and upgrading the relevant skills of existing and

potential entrepreneurs. In order to promote establishment of

new enterprises and creation of new entrepreneurs Ministry of

MSME has been implementing various schemes and

programmes.

Entrepreneurship development is one of the key elements for

promotion of micro and small enterprises, particularly, the first

generation entrepreneurs. In Entrepreneurship and Skill

Development Programs, ESDPs are being organized regularly

to nurture the talent of youth by enlightening them on various

aspects of industrial activity required for setting up Micro and

Small Enterprises. These EDPs are generally conducted in

institutions, where skill is available to motivate them towards

self-employment.

Under Assistance to Training Institutions (ATI) scheme the

assistance is provided to National level training institutions

operating under the Ministry of MSME, namely, NI-MSME,

KVIC, Coir Board, Tool Rooms, NSIC & MGIRI in the form of

capital grant for the purpose of creation and strengthening of

infrastructure and support for entrepreneurship development

and skill development training programmes. NI-MSME has

been conducting ATI programmes since 2009 and has trained

1,72,497 participants under various courses like fashion

designing, baking, IT services, Graphic Designing, Asst

Cameraman, Cloud Engineering etc and others until 2019.
