Monticello is rapidly becoming know as “Swan City” during the winter months. We host as many as 2,700 Trumpeter Swans during the winter months and many visitors head to Swan Park to view them. The Parks Department will be doing some maintenance in the park the first week in January. The park will close for a few days so they can take care of a downed tree in the feed-ing area. Swan Park is located at 117 Mississippi Dr, Monticello.

We held our December Good Morning Monticello at the Best Western Chelsea Hotel. They had an amazing breakfast laid out for us . We had over 25 in attendance that enjoyed a behind the scenes tour of the Best Western Chelsea Hotel. Perry Slon-eker, GM of the hotel explained their transformation of the property to make it a Best Western Chelsea Hotel Plus. They have added a number of amenities to make it a destination for business travelers.

Volunteer Appreciation: special date & time Thurs., March 14, 2019

VFW Monticello Please mark your calendars for Thursday, March 14, 2019 for our Volunteer Appreciation/Business After Hours event. By definition a volunteer is a person who freely offers to take part in an enterprise or undertake a task. We have an amazing group of volunteers that help us throughout the year to make this Chamber what it is today! From Board members, Ambassadors, Event Committee, Royal Ambassa-dor committee and so much more! We use the monthly Business After Hours event to recognize these individuals who give so much of themselves. Business After Hours is typically the 2nd Wednesday of the month but we have moved it to a special date and time. We hope you will be able to attend.

This last November Electro Industries was proud to once again be a collection site for Operation Christmas Child. Due to the generosity of our local commu-nity we were able to send 10,729 shoeboxes to children worldwide. We faithfully believe that every shoebox col-lected is pre-destined for a particular child and will meet a particular need that they have: whether that is providing them with school supplies to help them attain an educa-tion, shoes to protect their feet, items for health and hy-giene, and most importantly, showing them that they are loved and have value. Statistics show that each shoebox distributed impacts 6 individuals, whether family members or friends, in one way or another. To paint a picture: Monti-cello and the surrounding communities this November have forever impacted 64,374 individuals with their giving! Now that is a number to celebrate! If you fear you missed your chance or want to do more, remember you can always pack shoeboxes online 365 days a year 24 hours a day!
