It is Christmas Eve as I pen this first newsletter article for 2019. Two of our three worship services are concluded and one awaits in about an
hour. My family will depart for Rapid City on Christmas Day to spend time with my parents and to see a few friends. The season of Advent is one
of my favorite times in the church year. I love the songs, the special gatherings, ringing the bell, time with family, and Christmas Eve worship.
This year we even live streamed our Christmas Eve services and will continue to live stream worship each Sunday morning.
The Book Club will begin its second book on January 9, 2019. We will read, study, and discuss Paul Miller’s A Praying Life: Connecting with God in
a Distracting World. This delightful book acknowledges that prayer can be hard and that even as Christians we experience times when it seems
hard to pray. These moments or seasons leave us marked by fear, anxiety, joylessness, and spiritual lethargy. If you would like to join the class,
sign up for a book using the sign-up sheet on the Information Station at the back of the church.
Beginning the last Sunday in December, I will spend a little time during worship on three consecutive Sunday mornings unpacking the three plans
being brought forth to the Special General Session of the UMC that will occur in late February 2019. Each Sunday I will share a brief overview of
one of the plans. Then, on January 19th at 1:00 pm, we will host a “Town Hall Meeting” to discuss the plans in more detail and to consider some
of the possible impacts upon our denomination and on our own church. Our special guest will be Beata Ferris from Pierre. Beata is one of the
two Dakotas Conference representatives who will be at the Special General Conference.
Also to note — on February 23 we will host a “Breakthrough Prayer” Training event. A team from the conference will come and train us to pray
for spiritual breakthroughs in our church and in our ministries. This wonderful opportunity will begin at 10 AM and will end at about 3 PM and it
will include lunch. If you are a prayer warrior or want to develop a better prayer life, please put this date on your calendar!!
Blessings to all!! May the Lord guide and keep you and yours throughout 2019! - Pastor John

Scripture Study for January 2019 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Questions to ponder and go deep with:
1) How do you respond when you enter Jesus’ house?
2) When have you encountered Jesus and been overcome?
3) In what ways can you worship Jesus outside of the church?
Pastor John’s Jabberings
Scripture to read and consider:
“They entered the house and saw the child in the arms of Mary,
his mother. Overcome, they kneeled and worshiped him. ”.
— Matthew 2:11 (MSG)
High School had a fun month celebrating Christmas!
The first Wednesday, we went to the Golden Prairie
Manor and decorated sugar cookies with the residents.
The second Wednesday, we went back to sing Christ-
mas carols. The residents really enjoyed having the
students there! These were great activities for both the residents and
students, celebrating Jesus' love and birth!
To finish the year, each student received a gift, which was a fun
