No other devices will be monitored at this time. District staff is training with Securly throughout the month of December and monitoring will begin on January 2, 2018. As part of the Derby Public Schools implementation of the Securly System Alerts, remote, keyword searches related to self harm and cyberbullying will be conducted on user web searches, google chat, and social media (only Google+, Facebook and Twitter) posts on district issued student Chromebook devices. These keywords are determined by Securly software and are not divulged to district staff or students to insure unbiased monitoring. Once keywords are identified on a district issued device, a notification will be sent to key school district personnel to include: Middle School Building Principals, Technology Department Director, Safety and Security Officer, Superintendent of Schools and Assistant Superintendents. Designated building administrators will review and evaluate the alert for content and credibility. During school hours, after hours, weekend and holidays, these administrators are the point of contact to evaluate the alert and forward it to the appropriate personnel, i.e. School Resource Officer, Social Worker or Counselor. In the event an emergency response is warranted, parents and/or local police authorities may be contacted as well. Notifications and alerts regarding both self harm and cyberbullying received will be handled within a reasonable timeframe. Derby Public Schools does not assume any duty or obligation to continuously monitor any notifications or alerts, but will use the Securly software as an aid to monitor internet searches and activity. As the school year progresses please continue to make your student’s attendance a priority. Middle school students who are chronically absent, missing more that 10% of the school year, are at high risk of being off track for graduation. Please keep in mind the following:

• Student should be at school unless they have a fever of 100.0 (and should be fever free for 24 hours

before returning to school), are vomiting (not associated with coughing), or have diarrhea. • Make sure that you are contacting the office the morning of the absence at 788-8580 if your student

has to miss school. • Keep track of your student’s absences. • Make sure your child feel connected and engaged at school. • Make sure you are in contact your student’s teachers and school staff if you have a concern. • NEVER be afraid to ask for help. If you are having difficulty getting your student to come to school

please contact the student support staff for help.
