5th Annual “Helping” Competition Food DriveIt was another succesful year for the A&B Process Systems Associates food drive! Associates collected $11,777 items this year, which was 81% of their goal. Included in those items was over $1,300 cash that was collected the final week of the drive that will be used for meat gift cards. Thanks to all who participated and keep the true intent behind the drive alive. Thanks also to the generosity of A&B Process Systems who donated 48-$25 Festival Foods gift cards.

The competition ran for five weeks, from November 2 through December 4, with each week having a different focus for the types of items collected. Different weeks were: “Meals Made Easy”, “For the Kids”, including hats, mittens and toys, “Clean-Up” - both hygiene and household, “for Our Furry Friends” and “Cash for Meat”.

The Corporate office and Plant 1 Upstairs Office came away with the traveling trophy this year.

As much as this competition is about the competition amongst the groups, the true meaning and end results is to help those in need. It’s amazing how everyone pulls together and gives what they can to make this successful. Through everyone’s generosity, they were able to contribute food and items to 25 facilities that were collecting food, personal items, toys, and pet supplies. The generosity of others is a blessing for those in need!

2016 Reality Stores Are Set. Volunteers Needed. The 2016 Reality Stores have been scheduled for March 8 at Spencer Schools and April 12 at Marshfield Middle School. Students from Auburndale, Columbus Catholic, Granton, Greenwood, Immanuel Lutheran, Loyal, Marsh-field, Pittsville, Spencer, and St. Joseph Catholic schools will attend the stores. This successful event, originally a Leadership Marshfield project, helps eighth grade students put the puzzle of their future together.

Before the day of the store, students will be assigned an occupation with annual income, benefits, a marital status, combined income, and children. The first lesson students learn will be how to calculate their net monthly income. They deduct state and federal taxes, social security and Medicare, and quickly realize the difference between gross and net income.

As they enter the store, the young shoppers will be greeted by business volunteers representing a variety of monthly expenses. Students arrange for their housing, fur-nishings, utilities, transportation, childcare, groceries, insurance, and taxes, and will be required to donate to charity and contribute to their savings account.

They are allowed to make optional purchases such as computers, investments, mo-torcycles, pets, and family vacations; assuming, of course, their budget allows for such expenditures. In addition, students are given “chance factors”, the unexpected occurrences that affect a family’s budget, such as emergency room visits,

automobile problems, or spontaneous purchases.

Life lessons that occur daily as adults are simulated in the store. During past year’s stores, several students down-sized their homes, realized they couldn’t purchase the vehicles they wanted, or gave up other luxuries to make their money balance. Some pursued a part-time job to make ends meet, or discovered a need for social services assis-tance. Many students are amazed at the added expense of having children!

Most students leave the reality store with an increased awareness of budgeting money and making wise financial choices. Others have admitted they will give more consideration to their career and education choices. Overall, the reality store exposes students to the concept of preparing a monthly budget, with a glimpse of how much things cost and how quickly they add up.

The Reality Stores are “staffed” by area business representatives who “sell” their services to these eighth grade students. For example, realtors sell houses, car dealers sell vehicles, and insurance agents offer home and auto-mobile coverage. While in the store, students have to arrange for day care services, pay municipal taxes and order telephone and electric service as they prepare a monthly budget. Your help is needed as we plan this year’s stores. For more information or to find out how you can get involved, contact Karen Isaacson at (715) 384-3454 or email

[email protected].

Leadership Marshfield Alumni Donates to NOW Families Each year, the Leadership Marshfield Alumni of the Marshfield Area Chamber Foun-dation, donate dollars to their annual holiday gift giving project.

This year, $1,000 was collected and a check was presented to Paula Jero, Executive Director of the Marshfield Area United Way. The dollars were specifically designated for the NOW program and Paula and some elves went shopping. With those dollars, some of the items that were purchased included laundry and dish soap, personal hy-giene/toiletry products, along with some fun stuff including snow sleds, family board games, and age appropriate toys, things we take so for granted.

Pictured presenting the check to Paula is Kim Vrana, Leadership Marshfield Council Chairman.

Good Things Are Happen’ in Marshfield! During the month of December, your Marshfield Area Chamber of Commerce & Industry is pleased to have been a part of ribbon cuttings for Out of the Blue and E-Wireless. Thank you, MACCI Ambassadors for coming out to help celebrate!

Out of the Blue Tattoo, located at 108 West Second Street in Marshfield held their ribbon cutting ceremony on Tues-day, December 1, 2015. Although his shop is called Out of the Blue Tattoo, some careful planning went into its creation. For a very long time artist Jason Humphrey dreamt of running his own tattoo shop. Motivated by the encouragement of his many clients, Jason and his business partner Mike thought about opening their own shop and began looking at retail space. They originally considered a location in Steven’s Point or Wausau, but after not finding an attractive option, they chose their current location in Marshfield. Ironically, this felt just like home to Jason as he apprenticed under Jeff of New Life Ink, the former space’s tenant.

Out of The Blue Tattoo, LLC is a professionally owned and operated tattoo shop. They pride themselves on being a fully-insured, state-county inspected, clean, newly remodeled facility that offers a relaxing, no-stress environment. At Out of the Blue, they use all disposable one-use supplies so you will never have to worry about being touched by a previously used needle or any other tattoo art supplies. Their goal is to remove the negative stigma attached to the tattoo industry, and many of their clients are business professionals themselves. They believe body art is to be enjoyed by people of all different walks of life. Jason’s talent goes beyond the realm of body art. He is also a professional artist and has canvas works on display here in Marshfield at Blue’s Hair Studio.

Out of the Blue Tattoo is also focused on community involvement, and wants to partner with other organizations to keep funds here in the Marshfield Area. Jason has lead by example by donating to Ministry Hospice in Marshfield and donated his art to the Hope Lodge for a raffle to raise money for their mission. Come visit Out of the Blue, LLC, Mon-day - Saturday from 10 am - 7 pm and on Sunday’s by appointment, and see what a professional tattoo shop can do for you!

Expect music and laughter at “Nunsense” February 4-7 The University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County Continuing Education presents “Nunsense” February 4-6 at 7:30 p.m. and February 7 at 2 & 7:30 p.m. in the Helen Connor Laird Theater.

“Nunsense,” a musical comedy, begins when the Little Sisters of Hoboken discover that their cook, Sister Julia, Child of God, has accidentally poisoned 52 of the sisters, and

they are in dire need of funds for the burials. The sisters decide that the best way to raise the money is to put on a variety show, so they take over the school auditorium, which is currently set up for the eighth grade production of “Grease.” Buy tickets by calling 715-389-6534 or purchase online at marshifeld.uwc.edu. The Box Office is open Thursdays and Fridays from 4:30-6:30 p.m.
