A Message From Pastor David
Over the past few days I have reflected a bit as I do when one year embarks upon another. In my reflection I have
celebrated again and again the accomplishments of the NorthRidge family over this past year; the marriages that
have taken steps toward refinement, the commitments toward physical health that many have made, and the new
ministries that have been birthed. The successes of 2011 are easy to recognize and easy to celebrate. But in my
reflection the question that looms over me is, What is the next step?
A journey is simply a series of steps taken to get from place to another. This journey of life will be measured in
large part by the steps we take. Yet every step we take must be measured, evaluated, and carefully executed; lest
we wander through life too many do that in our culture. With many steps there are decisions to make, as to
which step to take or to what must I do to prepare myself for this step. Some steps allow us plenty of time toready ourselves; other steps occur in crisis or with urgency and any preparation that was needed must have be
done in the steps previously. Thus, we recognize the need to prepare along the way. We need to be EQUIPPED
along the way thus our focus for 2012.
I had stated in early November that I believe 2012 will mark a significant transition in the life of NorthRidge Church
and its ministries. We all bear a significant responsibility in paying for a debt on our Community Center (Gym)
building that preceded most of us (built in 1999), but is nonetheless a responsibility of our family. While we owe
over $670,000 on this debt and while we pay over $7,000 per month to retire this debt, it is a responsibility that we
need to retire; we need to take the next step. I have struggled with the Lord over this for many years, but I believe
it is time to transition from debt retirement to ministry investment $7,000 per month to invest in reaching the
Ridge and beyond. In my struggle I have wrestled with the state of our economy and the timing of such a challenge
yet I have found encouragement within His Word God has already equipped and is equipping His people to ful-fill His task. Hear the prayer of King David from 1 Chronicles 29. Read it several times and hear God speak . . . to
you.10
Then David praised the LORD in the presence of the whole assembly: O LORD, the God of our ancestor Israel,
may you be praised forever and ever!11
Yours, O LORD, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the
majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O LORD, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as the
one who is over all things.12
Riches and honor come from you alone, for you rule over everything. Power and might
are in your hand, and it is at your discretion that people are made great and given strength.13
O our God, we thank you and praise your glorious name!14
But who am I, and who are my people, that we could
give anything to you? Everything we have has come from you, and we give you only what you have already given
us! (Emphasis added)15
We are here for only a moment, visitors and strangers in the land as our ancestors were
before us. Our days on earth are like a shadow, gone so soon without a trace.16
O LORD our God, even these materials that we have gathered to build a Temple to honor your holy name come
from you! It all belongs to you!17
I know, my God, that you examine our hearts and rejoice when you find integrity
there. You know I have done all this with good motives, and I have watched your people offer their gifts willingly
and joyously.
As we focus on equipping for the next steps, prayerfully consider what your gift will be to eliminate the debt on
Gods House. We will be the recipients of great joy as we observe God leading His people to do what He has al-
ready equipped them to do. His House deserves our best. His Kingdom deserves our all. This life He has given us
deserves careful evaluation as we take the steps through the journey of it.
Lets give our best in 2012.
Love you all, Pastor David

Set your calendars for July 22-29, 2012. We are planning a trip back to Honduras to continue our work
there with local churches and community outreach. In years past, we have constructed things like Sunday School
classrooms, church buildings, and latrines. We have also held childrens events like Vacation Bible School and of-
fered training and encouragement to church leaders. All of our efforts have been met with welcome arms in thechurches as well as the communities that we seek to reach for the sake of the Gospel.
For the past year, we have been praying about what opportunities are available for us to make a great im-
pact on a community that extends beyond the walls of a church or a specific number of missions trips. As we have
prayed, we believe that God is leading us to make a difference in a community through meeting very specific needs
that extend beyond the church. One of the things that we noticed on a trip two years ago was that many of the
communities and people groups are very limited in their capacity to provide their families with sustainable crops
that could provide both a healthy diet as well as a potential income to purchase other necessary food items. Many
of the families that we encountered had no means or knowledge of growing new types of crops that could provide
those resources for them. We believe that meeting a communitys needs through such a program would offer local
groups of believers a ministry that exceeds the projected scope of a typical construction project.
One of the main projects we are planning this July is the creation of a community vegetable garden along
with the development of organic compost. This project is designed to teach, train and benefit many families in the
church and community. The vision of this project is to promote community relationships while teaching these farm-
ers to produce different kinds of vegetables for their families. For generations, these people have been planting
only corn and beans because that is the only thing they know how to plant and grow. Through this project, they will
be educated on the proper time for planting different vegetables as well as rotating crops and making better use of
their open fields. Eventually we hope to see them producing income for their families by selling their vegetables.
The second project we are planning is the construction of latrines. Even though such a project lacks the
luster of a church building or a house, each latrine provides the answer to a very basic need. While gardening might
provide ample resources for a family, healthy gardening is vital to the sustainability of such a project. One of the
ways that this is accomplished is the proper placement and implementation of latrines that are designed to keep
human waste away from fields that grow food for human consumption.
One of the areas in greatest need for both of these project is Nueva Palmira, in the Yoro area. Please beginpraying about your desire to attend, sponsor, or pray for these projects this coming July. Two informational meet-
ings will be held in January; Wednesday, January 4th at 8pm in the conference room and Sunday, January 8th, at
12pm in the conference room. If you are interested in participating, please make plans to join us for one of the two
times. More information will be provided regarding location and cost at that time.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!
I hope that everyone reading this has had an amazing Christmas and New Year. The beginning of this
year has three big events going on for our youth group. The first event is the Winter Jam concert. This
is taking place on January 14th. We will be taking a bus load of kids to Tampa to see bands like Skillet,
Sanctus Real, Building 429, and Newsong. This is a great event because it only costs our kids 10 dollars
and there are 10 bands performing.
Our Second event is a fundraiser. We will be sponsoring a Valentines date night on Friday, February
17. Instead of being a spaghetti dinner, it will be a sit down Italian restaurant setting (that offers spa-ghetti). There will be waiters and strolling musicians. There will also be a child care service set up so
those couples with younger children can have a nice evening out. More details will be available as the
date gets closer.
Our big event that is coming up is our D-NOW weekend. This will be on Friday February 10th
and Satur-
day February 11th
. This will be an outreach event that will be discussing the True Love Waits material,
talking about being pure until marriage. We are looking at making this a multi-church event with a ma-
jor concert open to the public on Saturday night. I really need your prayers for this event. We will also
need host families for our students. I think we will need at least 6 families, maybe more, to house stu-
dents for one night. If you are interested, please contact me at the church office (863-422-2288).
Thank you for all the prayers and support you have given me in the past year. I look forward to part-
nering with you all again as prayer warriors for these students.
Stepping out in Faith,
Derrick
