HAPPY NEW YEAR PILOTS! ARE YOU READY FOR 2013? Is this your year to select a parcular project or fund raiser to share your me and talents to insure its success? Let us take a quick look at why 2012 was so successful. Fundraisers: August, Chinese Aucon, September, the annual Rummage Sale, October thru December, Pecan Sales and the spectacular December Holiday Tea. We did not simply raise funds, we also distributed a lot of donaons into the community: the Arts and Science Museum Children’s Math program, Work books to public elementary schools, gis and $s to Pilot Scholarship houses, the Star Shelter Back to School Program, UCP/WORC, Alzheimer Walk sponsorship, Project Care, co-sponsoring Veteran projects with Rolling Thunder, Easter Seals Ausm Program , Olds Hall, Daytona State College scholarship fund, all have been recipients so far but wait there is sll me for members to embrace upcoming projects. We also sponsored the annual Halloween Party at Central Manor and will be sponsoring our annual spring tea for residents at Indigo Manor as well as an event at Olds Hall. First up is JoEllen’s BOWLING FOR YOUR BRAIN FUNDRAISER on Sunday, January 20. That is right around the corner; will you buy some ckets, put up some posters, and secure a sponsor or a gi to raffle? Can you be there to help? You should try, this is a fun fun event, kids and adults alike just have the best me. You do not bowl, well neither do I but I buy ckets every year and give them to my neighbor because he and his son do bowl. We are an amazing group don’t you think? We raise $s for the sole purpose of giving support to our community in that most important area of funding, and that dear Pilots is how we here at the Pilot Club of the Halifax Area connue to “Bridge the Gap”. The bonus is that we have such a great me in doing what we do. So, ARE YOU READY? I just know the answer is an overwhelming YES. Oh My!

Our Holiday Party in December was memorable! JoEllen Salce-Rogers chaired this

wonderful event with the Directors. We certainly thank them for the great %me we all

had! There was this "Ugly Sweater" Contest, well, we had 9 great sweaters entered in the

contest!

There were 4 categories awarded; Super Star: Leanne Hansard; Most Unique: Ruthie

Roberts-Jones; most subtle: Hilary Reilly; and Most Decora%ve: Shirley Hess, guest.

Everyone had a great %me with that. We also presented a Love Gi6 to Shirley and Hector

for all they do for us at the PalmeJo Club.

News from Julia Schap at University of Florida

We had lots of food brought to us by the pilot ladies in

Gainesville during finals week and everyone loved that since

we didn't have to make our own food! Ha-ha. Finals week itself was

pretty stressful. People were up until around 5 AM and some stayed up all

night for a lot of the nights. People slept around on the couch as well

while trying to study ha-ha. I have been doing fine though and was one

of the people who took to staying up until 5 in the morning and then

sleeping until around 9 before having to study again. I had finals from the

8th until the 14th which spanned the entirety of finals week therefore I

didn't get to leave early. I never had more than one test a day but I had a

test almost every day at some point. I passed all my classes so that was

nice! The house also did a secret sister gift exchange for Christmas that

went over well! We all got a girl in our house to buy presents for and we

had to decorate a stocking for them and put stocking stuffers in there

throughout the week! It only took me a few months but I am finally like

totally comfortable in the house and I have made so many new friends

there and love getting to hang out with them every day and during

dinner talking about our days. I'm pretty excited to go back in January

and to get to see them all again! Next semester I am taking 17 credit

hours including Calculus, Chemistry 1 with lab, public speaking, What Is

the Good Life and online economics so it should be an interesting

semester ha-ha.

Another fresh new year is here . . .

Another year to live!

To banish worry, doubt, and fear,

To love and laugh and give!

This bright new year is given me

To live each day with zest . . .

To daily grow and try to be

My highest and my best!

I have the opportunity

Once more to right some wrongs,

To pray for peace, to plant a tree,

And sing more joyful songs!
