Simian Risk Group is an occupational health and safety consultancy and training provider
specialising in scaffolding and work at height. Operating internationally with extensive experience
working for Government’s, Enforcing Authorities, Clients and Contractors, in construction, oil and
gas, power generation and manufacturing sectors.
Simian Skill is a training provider with dedicated scaffolding training facilities in London, Warrington
and Dubai, as well as providing approved training and assessment on site. Holding internationally
recognised accreditations for the delivery of training qualifications and the assessment of
competence for the scaffolding trade, including the Construction Industry Scaffolders Record
Scheme (often referred to as CITB), Construction Awards Alliance and City & Guilds. We are the
organisation behind the new INTERNATIONAL SCAFFOLDER training standard providing
recognised qualifications for the global scaffolding market.
In developing INTERNATIONAL SCAFFOLDER we were able to draw from our extensive
experience of providing training and consultancy for scaffolding and access around the globe. We
identified the need for an internationally recognised for scaffolder training and competence
assessment standard and thereby designed this scheme.
This scheme has been developed to provide a training standard for scaffolders at various grades
and to give clients and contractors reassurance that any Scaffolder, Supervisor or Inspector who
holds a Simian Skill certificate or record card, has achieved a level of skills and knowledge for their

The International Scaffolder operative training programme has been developed to meet the scaffolding and access needs of each country and the specific industry sectors, including:

3. Scaffolding Operative Training
� Operatives require at least 6 months prior experience
� Attend a 5 day training course � Complete theory tests and practical
assessments � Successful candidates achieve a Basic Scaffolder
Certificate and can apply for a Basic Scaffolder Card (Valid for 5 years)
� 6 months as a Basic Scaffolder before accepted � 10 day training course � Complete theory tests and practical
assessments � Successful candidates achieve an Intermediate
Scaffolder Certificate and can apply for a Intermediate Scaffolder Card (Valid for 5 years)

The scheme has been designed to provide a recognised training qualification for:
� Scaffolding Operatives � Scaffolding Supervisors � Scaffold Inspectors � Others who need to raise their levels of skill, knowledge and awareness of access and
scaffolding…
It applies to all training and assessment made by Simian Skill internationally outside of the United Kingdom, where we resort to the UK Construction Industry Scaffolders Record Scheme (CISRS).
In most cases training and assessment can be carried out either at our training centres or onsite at client’s premises, providing they have suitable training facilities and equipment. Note that some of the more complex training, such as the Advanced Scaffolder, needs to be completed at our specially equipped scaffolder training centres.
Candidates who successfully pass our training courses will receive our Simian Skill Certificate and can apply for the Simian Skill Record Card* which are issued separately. Simian Skill certificates and record cards are valid for 5 years from the date the training was completed.
Certificates and Record Cards can be renewed by completing a 1 Day Scaffolding Update Course.
In addition to the Simian Skill Certification and Record Cards, we provide externally accredited training and qualifications that are certificated by other organisations e.g. PASMA Mobile Tower, CSkills Site Safety Plus, NVQ by Construction Awards Alliance etc…

The Scaffold Inspector Training scheme is aimed at non-scaffolders and scaffolders who require the knowledge and skills to carry out scaffold safety inspections in accordance with local regulations and international good practice.
This inspection training is divided into two grades:
Basic Scaffold Inspector
� Aimed at non-scaffolders (e.g. managers, engineers etc.) who are required to carry out inspections of basic scaffold structures.
� Attend a 2 day training course � Complete theory and practical tests � Successful candidates receive a Basic Scaffold
Inspector Certificate and can apply for a Basic Scaffolder Inspector Record Card (Valid for 5 Years)
Advanced Scaffold Inspector
� Aimed at experienced Scaffolders and others who have held a Basic Inspectors Card for at least 2 years.
� A 2 day training course Complete theory and practical tests
� Successful candidates receive an Advanced Scaffold Inspector Certificate and can apply for an Advanced Scaffolder Inspector Record Card (Valid for 5 Years)

At Simian Skill we recognise the need for scaffolders to full understand the requirements of the manufacturer’s instructions when erecting proprietary system scaffolding. Therefore we offer product training for a variety of system scaffolds types, including:
� Cuplok � Kwikstage � Layher Allround � Peri Up � Haki Universal � Modex � And many more…
Although system scaffolding is covered on our Scaffolder courses, we offer a 2 day product course to provide more in depth training on the use of specific system scaffold products and the manufacturers’ instructions.
Existing Simian Skill Card holders can have this product training endorsed on the back of their card, in addition to the System Scaffold Product Training certificate they will receive for successfully completing the course.
We can also provide 1 day product appreciation training in a particular product for customers who require to enhance their product knowledge for scaffold inspection or just general awareness on site.

Simian Skill is an approved vocational assessment centre with the Construction Awards Alliance (CAA) and City and Guilds of London (C&G). We can offer National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ) levels 2 and 3 in Rigging and Access Operations. These optional assessments can be undertaken in addition to the International Scaffolder training and can also be recorded on the Simian Skill Record Card.
We can offer On Site Assessment and Training (OSAT) internationally, however this UK based qualification relies upon candidates being able to speak and read English.
Individual NVQ units can also be achieved for example for the Advanced Scaffold Inspection course.
Successful candidates will receive either a CAA or City & Guilds certificate.

All attendees that successfully complete our training courses will receive a certificate of achievement and can also apply for a Simian Skill Card as a demonstrable record of their training when on site. They also agree to have their training records held on a central database that can be viewed by potential employers and clients to verify their personal training record.
We are currently developing our website to allow secure access by clients and employers, to allow them to authenticate and verify training records online via our website:

In addition to the online verification and to further help overcome fraud and counterfeiting the training certificate has a unique certificate number, is printed with a photograph of the candidate and also there passport number. The record card is also over-printed with special Ultraviolet ink that can only be viewed under a special UV lamp.

Intermediate Scaffolder Training Course Specification Duration: 10 days Attendees: Delegates must complete the International Basic Scaffolder 5 day course
and held the certificate for at least 6 months. Carried out at our approved centre or on client’s sites.
Objectives: To give the attendees such knowledge and skills to enable them to erect,
alter and dismantle scaffolding structures of an intermediate complexity in traditional tube and fitting and common system scaffolds.

Advanced Scaffolder Training Course Specification Duration: 10 days Attendees: Delegates must complete the International Intermediate Scaffolder 10 day
course and held the certificate for at least 12 months. Can only be undertaken at an approved International Scaffolder Training Centre.
Objectives: To give the attendees such knowledge and skills to enable them to erect,
alter and dismantle scaffolding structures of an advanced complexity in traditional tube and fitting and common system scaffolds.
Certification: Successful delegates will receive a Simian Skill ‘International Scaffolder’
Certificate of Training and can apply for an ‘International Scaffolder’ Record Card for Advanced Scaffolder.
