Special mention goes to Neve Wilkins, who placed runner-up in the junior section progressing through 15 rounds. This is a fantastic achievement for a student in Year 3 going up against students in Year 4! The school looks forward to having our students participate in the Premier’s Spelling Bee again in the years to come. School Grounds It has been reported that there are children/families in the community that are on school grounds outside of school hours. In particular, our forest and grass oval. I implore families to not allow children on school grounds after school or on the weekend. A school is not a safe environment when there isn’t adequate supervision. The school is an isolated location with potential hazards. I would hate for one of our students, or community members to be injured on school grounds or school property to be damaged. I appreciate the support of the school community in addressing this matter. A SMALL SCHOOL MAKING A BIG DIFFERENCE Jamberoo debating team ‘cooks’ the opposition

Debating Yesterday the school’s debating team consisting of Miah Buckley, Romany Janssens, Will Thomson and Jules Frost, came up against Shellharbour Public School in the inter-zone final of the Premier’s Debating Challenge. Staff Leave Unfortunately, this term there has been a very high number of teachers on leave for a variety of reasons. This is obviously not ideal for our students as there has been a number of casual teachers taking classes. When a teacher goes on leave the ideal scenario is that they leave work for the casual teacher, which maintains the normal routines of the classroom. There are occasions however when the classroom teacher is struck with illness and cannot leave work for the casual teacher.

The school recognises that there are wide ranging abilities of casual teachers, so we strive to employ a replacement who demonstrates high levels of classroom management and teaching ability. However, we are sometimes limited in choice. The need for casual teachers is very high across all schools in NSW. We have been very lucky that we haven’t had to split any classes this year, which some schools in the area are being forced to do on a regular basis.

Throughout the remainder of this year, the school will endeavour to focus on and improve student behaviour when a casual teacher is employed on a class. I will raise my visibility and presence in classrooms and strongly encourage higher levels of accountability for students linked to our school’s positive behaviour expectations. The goal will be that students’ behaviour remains consistent and classroom routines are maintained no matter which teacher is standing in front of the class.

I appreciate the patience and understanding shown by all Jamberoo parents with this issue.

No Parking Zones Please see below rules for the two no parking zones we have at the front of the school’s office buiklding and the church. A ‘No Parking’ sign implies that one cannot park or wait for somebody but can load up and unload goods and let people out of the vehicle. Please be aware that if you park your car for more than two minutes, which some families are doing in the afternoon when picking up their child/children, you risk a fine of $114.

Thank You A huge thank you to the many Jamberoo families who only contact the teaching staff between the hours of 8am and 5pm Monday through to Friday. I really value the cooperation of parents/carers with this initiative and your understanding that teachers have lives outside of school. I know you all appreciate the hard work and effort teachers put into your children and very much thank you all for sensibly complying with the school's request for communication during set hours.

Accountability

This term the Principal’s Award will be handed out to students who demonstrate the skill of accountability. Students being accountable for their behaviour, their actions and most importantly their learning is a trait the school believes is very important for our students to be the best they can be now and into the future.

So far this term there have been ten students who has been acknowledged for their high levels of accountability: Tyson Higgins Odin Stubbles Dimity Blazevski Zachariah Tidswell Annabelle Young Ellie Linsley Riley Delfino Emily Lukins Jett Hodgkinson Reece Mills

Who will be receiving a Principal’s Award for accountability at tomorrow’s assembly? Be there to find out!!!

Jamberoo Public School – Photo Sharing Last Friday a note was uploaded onto Care Monkey allowing parents to view their child’s photos, taken by Grandma Nell, without having to scroll through the thousands of photos taken over the last 18 months. To access this initiative please check the Care Monkey note and follow the steps provided. Please find a brief outline of the process involved below:

Using Google’s facial recognition tool, each child’s photos can be sorted into their own album. The link to this album can then be shared with the child’s parent/carer, who then ‘joins’ (subscribes) to the album. The photos themselves still reside in the same Google account they have been on. You are simply joining the album as a share partner.

If you have more than one child, separate albums would be created for each.

•     Email [email protected] requesting an album is created for your child. Provide:

o   the email address you would like the link sent to. o   your child’s name o   A photo of your child from Grandma Nell’s photos (see Class Dojo for link)

•     Consider downloading the Google Photos app – which will enable straightforward access to the album on your phone (highly recommended!)

Note: This is an ‘opt-in’ initiative: albums will only be created after:

•      we receive an email request from the parent/carers AND •      the request is validated against school records

Bell Shakespeare Visit We are lucky enough to have been able to book The Bell Shakespeare 'Players' to visit our school during their tour of the Illawarra/South Coast. The Players are Bell Shakespeare’s touring ensemble of actors, reaching schools across Australia with dynamic, accessible and entertaining Shakespeare performances. They are professional artists who will deliver age-appropriate performances to challenge and inspire our students and support our teaching of English and performing arts.

ACTIVITY DETAILS

Name of Event: Bell Shakespeare's 'Just Romeo and Juliet'

Audience: All students from Year 2 - Year 6

Date of Event: Friday 27 September 2019

Where: Jamberoo School Hall Cost: $12 per student. Money is to be paid no later than Friday 20 September.

About the performance:

Following the smash-hit success of Just Macbeth! (abridged), Andy Griffiths is back with a very silly version of the greatest love story ever told.

When Andy, Danny and Lisa find themselves in a school production of Romeo and Juliet, the star-crossed lovers’ journey is derailed in hilarious fashion. Using Shakespeare’s original text and Griffiths’ beloved characters, Just Romeo and Juliet! is sure to have junior students across Australia learning and laughing. Classic tragedy collides with side-splitting comedy in this entertaining introduction to Shakespeare for students.

Jamberoo Debaters Success Congratulations must go out to Romany, Jules, Will and Miah who defeated a strong Shellharbour team in the inter-zone finals of the Premier's Debating Challenge yesterday. The team successfully argued against the inclusion of compulsory weekly cooking classes for all Year 5 and 6 students in schools. Appears there are considerable safety issues, costs, already an over-crowded curriculum and plenty of opportunity for students to learn in high school and with their parents. Well argued, Jamberoo Blues. Look forward to seeing what you can do against Dapto PS in the regional quarter finals in the next week or two!

Library News Week 8 Term 3 My, how the term has flown by! There’s been plenty of action in the library in the past few weeks, with students hurriedly logging and reviewing books for the Premier’s Reading Challenge. I am very pleased to report that Birrahlee and Walabi students all completed the challenge in class. All Tangalla students completed the challenge during library and most students from Nuninoona, Wonga Wonga and Cooinda were also successful. Students who logged the required number of books will receive a library award early next term which counts towards their gold. Students who not only logged their books, but also completed a review of each one, have earned themselves a special treat. I look forward to presenting these awards early next term. All students who completed the challenge will also receive a special Premier’s Reading Challenge award at the end of the year, with some students earning gold or platinum awards for completing the challenge multiple times. Geography lessons have been taking place each week for all classes. I have been very impressed with the students’ enthusiasm for discussing and discovering facts about our earth and the ways in which people in Australia and the rest of the world interact with their environment. Lastly, I will be off on long service leave for the last two weeks of this term. My family and I are travelling to central Australia on a long-awaited adventure! Library lessons will continue as normal while I am away. I wish you all a great school holiday break in advance and look forward to seeing everyone in Term 4.

HOLIDAY KIDS CLUB8 -11 october 2019

This year we’re launching an all-new, week-long holiday kids club at Jamberoo Anglican Church!Join an Egyptian adventure as we investigate the Old Testament story of Joseph in Egypt and see how

God’s plans work for the good of his people, even though it might not seem like it at the time.We start after the Monday public holiday, from Tuesday 8th October to Friday 11th October, and will run during school hours from 9am to 3pm each of the four days. It will then finish with a special kids

club church service and family dinner on Saturday 12th from 5pm to 8pm. The kids club will be staffed by trained and authorised volunteers from our church, and the fee is only

$50 per child for the full week (maximum $100 per family) including the free Saturday dinner for the whole family. Students will need to bring a packed lunch, just like normal school.

To provide the very best care and programs, we can only accommodate a limited number of students. Preregistration is essential through our website. We welcome students from K to 6.

The program includes music, craft, games, activities, as well as prayer and child-friendly Bible teaching. It’s for children with lots or little Christian background, and is going to be lots of fun, too!

Announcing the October Holiday Kids Club 2019!

Dear friends in the Jamberoo Public School community,

I’m thrilled to announce that we’re launching an all-new, week-long holiday kids club at Jamberoo Anglican Church during the second week of the upcoming school holidays!

The holiday kids club will start the day after the Monday public holiday, from Tuesday 8th October to Friday 11th October, and will run during school hours from 9am to 3pm each of the four days. It will then finish with a special kids club church service and family dinner on Saturday 12th from 5pm to 8pm.

The kids club will be staffed by trained and authorised volunteers from our church, and to help cover costs of materials and activities, the fee is only $50 per child for the full week (maximum $100 per family) including the free Saturday dinner for the whole family. To keep costs down, students will need to bring a packed lunch, just like a normal school day.

To provide the very best care and programs, we can only accommodate a limited number of students. Preregistration is essential, and is available through our website. We welcome students from years K to 6.

The program will include music, craft, games, activities, as well as prayer and child-friendly Bible teaching. It’s suitable for children with lots or little Christian background, and is a perfect introduction to our church and the message of Jesus. And it’s going to be lots of fun, too!
