Education Week The school is very much looking forward to opening our doors tomorrow and celebrating with the Jamberoo community the successes achieved by Public Education in NSW. This week provides us all with the opportunity to reflect on the amazing teaching and learning that is occurring at Jamberoo Public School and at public schools all over the state.
Please find below a program of events for tomorrow:
11:00am – Morning Tea
11:30am – Assembly
12:30pm – Open Classrooms
1:00pm – Lunch (sausage sizzle)
2:00pm – Back to classrooms
Just a reminder that it is an expectation that students remain at school after Open Day concludes. The only viable reasons for students to go home are for sickness or a medical appointment. Classes will resume as per normal at 2pm.
As part of the Education Week celebrations, the school captains and I attended the Education Week launch which was held on Monday. The ceremony was conducted at both Kiama Public School and Parramatta Public School and was live streamed on YouTube. It was a great opportunity for our school leaders to mix with captains from other schools, meet some of the Department’s executive directors and state and federal politicians such as Mr Gareth Ward and Mrs Ann Sudmalis.
District Athletics Carnival Well done to all the Jamberoo Public School athletes who participated in this week’s Tongarra District Athletics Carnival. The students who participated all did their very best and were fine representatives of the school. Thank you to all the parents and family members who provided lifts to and from the event and cheered on our students.
Term Four Staff Development Days This year the staff at Jamberoo Public School will not be on site during the Department’s timetabled Staff Development Days at the end of Term Four (Thursday 20th December & Friday 21st December). The staff have and will continue to complete professional learning activities outside school hours (after school) which will replace the training that would have occurred on the Staff Development Days.
This will have no impact on the students/families of Jamberoo, as the last day for students in Term Four is Wednesday 19th December. The school will officially close on this date for the commencement of the school holidays.
ICAS (International Competitions and Assessments for Schools) Upcoming ICAS assessment: Mathematics – Tuesday 14th August
Behaviour Code At Jamberoo Public School high standards of behaviour and conduct are expected. There are consequences for positive and negative behaviour. There are levels of discipline and a standardised approach that is used by staff to reward positive behaviour and resolve problems when they arise.
Strive and Succeed Email: [email protected]
Students have rights and responsibilities that include:
• Expected standards of behaviour in the classroom, in the playground and while travelling to and from school.
• Safety in and around the school and at all school activities.
• Demonstrating high standards of positive behaviour while on excursions and participating in extracurricular activities such as sporting and other activities.
• Obedience to requests from staff and others in positions of authority.
• Adherence to the school’s policies.
• Positive and respectful relationships between all members of the school community.
Strategies to promote positive behaviour and effective learning
To encourage the highest levels of student behaviour Jamberoo Public School will:
• Display the Jamberoo Public School Positive Behaviour for Learning Matrix in classrooms. Class teachers are to explicitly teach and constantly refer to these expectations.
• Provide an appropriate and differentiated curriculum to meet the needs of each student.
• Discuss with parents/carers their role in promoting acceptable student behaviour.
• Provide appropriate support programs eg counseling, remediation.
• Implement school programs that develop self-discipline, self-evaluation, resilience, communication and conflict resolution skills.
For example: Buddies program, Student Representative Council, anti-bullying program, Life Education, Child Protection and Learning Habits.
