Communication of 8.IX.2001:

Tunisie Télécom, Tunis, announces that the introduction of the new numbering plan of Tunisia, scheduled for 1 July 2001, has been deferred to 1 October 2001.

Following the decree of the Ministry of Communication Technologies, dated 10 August 2001, Tunisie Télécom will introduce a new telephone numbering plan as from 1 October 2001 at 0000 hours UTC. As from this date, Tunisian telephone numbers will have eight digits at both the local and long-distance levels.

This change concerns the fixed telephone network and mobile telephone networks. The notion of area will cease to exist and there will no longer be an area code.

As from 1 October 2001, for calls throughout the country,

• whatever the distance separating calling parties within the territory,

all users must dial the eight-digit number by adding the prefix 7A to the number of the correspondent (A = 1 to 8: current area code of correspondent).
