EARLY LEARNING CENTERS

• Intel Computer Clubhouse is a model program for after school learning where young people,predominately from underserved communities, become confident learners through the use of technology.

• Stay-In-School (SIS) is designed to serve youth in need of counseling, tutoring, familyservices and support in designing individual development and career plans.

• Teen Pregnancy Prevention program counselors respond proactively, to foster variousprotective factors and referral support services to middle school youth and their families.

YOUTH PROGRAMS

Our Early Learning Centers provide quality care and education to children aged birthto 5 years old. All centers are accredited. The programs mission is to create and fosteropportunities for the children in the community we serve to maximize their potentialin all areas of development. In addition, the families are offered opportunities forgrowth and development through individualized services in the areas of education,dental, mental health, nutrition, social services and parent involvement.

COURT CARE CENTERSThe program provides drop-in childcare for families who are required to attend legal proceedings or other interventionsat Lawson Court, Richard E. Gerstein Criminal Justice Building, Overtown Transit Village Child Support EnforcementDivision, and Lawson E. Thompson Courthouse Center.

Court Care is funded by Miami Dade-County and is a collaboration between the 11th Judicial Circuit Court, DomesticViolence and Family Courts, and YWCA of Greater Miami-Dade.

The Economic Empowerment Program addresses barriers to financial stability through a servicedelivery model of education, relationship building and group support. This integrated approachempowers individuals to recognize behaviors that influence financial decision making and buildsthe foundation that assists women and families in determining sound financial decisions that willbenefit their families; and utilize appropriate products or tools to build, protect and sustain assets.

Educational classes are offered in English and Spanish, with ancillary services to encourageparticipation. Additionally, the program offers incentives for completing program milestones as away to bolster client confidence towards achieving their financial goals. Economic Empowermentserved 240 in total.

FAMILY WELLNESSReached 5,381 individuals for health education through healthfairs, outreach, classes, and other community events. Of those, 281unduplicated women, received 405 breast and cervical screenings.Although our program focuses mainly on women, of the 5,381individuals reached, 922 men received health education.

SUCCESS STORYVonda Stubblefield is a single parent of twochildren; when she enrolled her youngest child into YWCA Cain Tower Early Head Start, Ms.Stubblefield was very excited about her childbeing in school and wanted to be a very activeparent in the program. Being unemployed, shevolunteered very frequently and always asked ifthere were additional activities that she could dowith the children. Center Director, Ms. OslinePascal, assured Ms. Stubblefield that all of herparticipation in the program had not goneunnoticed and she loved how she interacted withthe children. When asked about her skills andinterests, Ms. Stubblefield stated that she hadsome college credit and would be enrolling atMiami-Dade College the upcoming semester. Ms. Pascal explained to her the steps and processof obtaining her 45-hour DCF Child Care Certificateand told her that she would be a great fit for theopen position that our School Readiness Programhad for a part-time caregiver. In no time, Ms.Stubblefield completed her child care training,received her certificate, and Ms. Pascal gladlyhired her as a part-time caregiver.
