It’s a Small world Plans for Photo’s:
• Use pieces of lego, in order to create the idea that “it’s a small world”. This will be achieved by creaNng situaNons or scenes that might be seen everyday although this Nme, they are not large scale.
• In addiNon to this, I will also compare large and small scale people, objects and animals. As menNoned in my mind map, I will photograph a toy dog amongst a real dog or even photograph a house made out of lego or other construcNon toys (K’NEX, megablocks or meccano) with a real house in the background.
• When ediNng, I plan to experiment with new colour correcNon techniques, altering the red, blue and green levels and curves. And more specifically, I plan to use the vigneZe effect again, as it has proved successful in the past.
Title: Peinture Fraiche “Fruit and Vegetables” set
Ar5st Research -‐ Pierre Javelle and Akiko Ida
The subject of the photograph is both the mushrooms and the figurines, aswell as their accessories (ladders, wheelbarrows and paint Nns). AddiNonally, its appears the photograph has been taken as studio as the grass does not look real. Also, I believe the photographers have not only been influenced by other arNsts who may have used a similar idea but also by their creaNve side because this photo seems fairly original and it seems the photographers have carefully placed the figurines, accessories and vegetables to create a situaNon that we come across in everyday life. Although, the use of the props aid the photo in conveying a unique image. In addiNon to a unique image, I think they are trying to communicate a happy and peaceful one. And this is shown through the use of the bright and vibrant colours (red and white), which are usually associated with these emoNons, parNcularly white which has connotaNons of peace. I find this photograph quite interesNng and I value the way that the photographer has placed the props, in order to create a scene similar to one that we see in life. Furthermore, this photograph has inspired me to aZempt to be significantly more creaNve and to experiment with different props when taking photographs. Also, this type of work is different to my previous projects and therefore will help me broaden my sets of photographs.
ArNst Research
UnNtled William Eggleston 1970
I believe this photo by William Eggleston is similar to my own, however their subject maZer is of a larger scale whereas mine is of a smaller scale as it is indeed a toy. Similarly, these photographs have both been taken in an outside locaNon and I think the photographer has been influenced by memories of childhood. Which is also the case with me, I used lego pieces because they carry memories and that’s what the Ntle “it’s a small world” means to me. Furthermore, I think the photographer is trying to communicate a happy and peaceful mood, and the colours used have connotaNons of this, as the dominant ones are white and blue. And as menNoned earlier, this photograph carries childhood memories, and those memories are usually the happiest, therefore it has connotaNons of those moods. AddiNonally, the colour red is used and I think these represent England; red, white and blue. On the other hand, my photograph contains slightly darker colours however, it sNll possesses the colours of red , white and blue, both from my subject maZer and the surrounding cars. I did this unintenNonally, however I now realize that it also carries the England colours and therefore links in well with this photograph by William Eggleston.

EvaluaNon of Photograph • I parNcularly like this photograph as I’ve captured the comparison
between small and large scale objects and animals. Both objects are posiNoned to the right of the frame, however the toy is front of image, whereas the dog is at the back. AddiNonally, their poses a fairly similar in some sense.
• Furthermore, this image gives off a slightly humorous message, however also seems fairly dull. This is because of the colours used which are of course grey, which I applied when ediNng, amongst the posturized effect.
• Although pleased with this photograph, If I were to edit again, I would probably choose to alter the levels and curves, in order to make the colours significantly more brighter and vibrant. This is because, it takes some of the humor away from the photograph and replaces it with a dull and boring mood.

It’s a Small World Set 2: Plans for Photo’s
• For my Second set of photographs, I plan to apply a Nlt shiG effect to the photographs that I take.
• The majority of these photographs will be taken from a high viewpoint and will contain a specific subject maZer. This subject maZer will stand out amongst the scenery, and will be the only object in viewpoint which will aid the effect in being successful.
• In addiNon to this, I also plan to edit the colours in the photograph, increasing the saturaNon and playing around with the curves to a point where it will make it look like a model scenery, this is because they are normally brightly painted.
ArNst Research: Set 2
• UnNtled Photograph • Andrew KreG
An outside FesNval/ concert has been captured here from a high angle, and more importantly, a Nlt shiG effect has been applied. This is in order to make it look of a smaller scale and a miniature seeng. I believe the photographer was influenced by the spectacular scene, because fesNvals tend to aZract loads of people and it’s not oGen that you get to see such a large amount of people in such a compact space, and therefore I think he wanted to capture the scene while he had a chance. Furthermore, this photograph carries a happy and exciNng image, as fesNvals tend to be associated with these emoNons. AddiNonally, I like this photography and think the Nlt shiG effect was used well and succeeds in giving the image a miniature look to it. And plan to achieve a similar effect myself with my next set of photographs. However, I have to aZempt to get pictures from a higher angle as the Nlt shiG effect tends to work beZer when looking down on the scene.

It’s a Small World: Set 2 Out of all the Tilt ShiG aZempts, I believe this one went most successfully and overall appears to be a miniature seeng. The subject maZer is the shed in the garden as it is the only thing in focus amongst the scenery, this will draw individuals to it, and in turn creates the effect. This is also reinforced by the shed being center of the frame and that’s why I believe it worked so well, also the bright and vibrant colours used help promote a model or toy feeling as they’re oGen brightly painted. When Model scenery aswell, it is looked at from a high viewpoint as obviously individuals are significantly taller than it, this is also the same case with my photograph, as I’ve taken it from above and therefore the effect works even beZer. Furthermore, I believe this photograph gives off a peaceful and tranquil mood, this is most likely due to the bright and vibrant colours used. As the green grass has connotaNons of peace and happiness, whereas the blue of the sky is oGen associated with happiness and nicer weather tends to put people in a beZer mood. In conclusion I am pleased with this image, and it worked the most successful out of this parNcular set of photographs, and as menNoned earlier this is probably because of the high viewpoint, subject maZer and colours which are all vital factors amongst others that aid in creaNng the effect.
It’s a Small World Set 3: Plan for photo’s
• Similar to Set 1, I am again going to use toys or models as I believe it went successfully the first Nme round. However, I plan to try and be more creaNve and use different techniques.
• In addiNon to this, I am also going to aZempt the comparison technique again which allows the viewer to gain an understanding of the scale between the normal object, animal or person and the model or toy.
ArNst Research: Set 3
Gorillaz January 25th 2007 Brian McCarty
• The subject of the photograph is the band “Gorillaz”, in their music videos, in order to to represent their selves.
I believe the original photo was taken in either a tunnel, subway or tube staNon. • Following this, the photograph is then edited and these
animaNons are placed into the frame, which gives the illusion of them playing in the train staNon, more commonly known as busking.
• Busking tends to be a normal occurrence however the photographer changes this by adding the band, and also adds an element of humor to the image.
• AddiNonally, I think music has influenced the photographer in this example. And I’d like to carry out something similar, as I’m a big fan of music and believe a lot can be expressed through it, which is also the case with photography.
• As well as humor, I believe the photographer is trying to promote a laid back feel. This is because music tends to be relaxing.
• In conclusion, I like this photograph and plan to do something similar however instead of using digitally created images, I am going to use figurines and aZempt to Ne the images in with music. Possibly using toys associated with music (ArNsts and Band Members).

Evalua5on • I believe this photograph is similar to the photo contained in the first set. As with that one, it
contained two objects or living things; one of a smaller scale and one of a large or real life scale.
• The subject maZer here of course is the Simpsons pencil case and the sofa, whereas the other photograph contained a dog and a toy dog. This technique of using comparisons in one photograph shows how small the other object/ subject maZer actually is.
• I am pleased with this photograph as I think the way in which the object was placed was well thought about. I did this so, the sofa was sNll visible and in turn, showed the comparison. I would describe the mood of this photograph as calm and relaxing, this is because the object have calm and laid back poses, and therefore promote a sense of tranquility. AddiNonally, I believe this photograph has a sense of humor about it as it shows the comparison and how small it actually is.
• Furthermore, when I edited the photograph, I experimented with the level in the photograph, changing the output an input level and more parNcularly, creaNng an “S” shape. And therefore, it made the photograph darker and the colours stand out.
