ITP FOR EMPLOYEES OUTSIDE SWEDENThe Swedish occupational pension policies, ITP and occupational group life insurance, the latter referred to as “TGL”, continue to apply under certain conditions for salaried employees working abroad.

This is a result of a an agreement between the Confederation of Swedish Enter-prise and PTK regarding social security for employees working outside Sweden.

When your employer registers you for ITP insurance abroad, the benefits of the ITP insurance policy continue to apply as though you were working in Sweden. Furthermore, the following additional supplements also apply:

INCREASED SICKNESS BENEFITSYou can receive compensation from ITP in the case of long-term illness. You have the right to increased sickness benefits if you do not receive a daily sickness allowance from the Swedish Social Insurance Agency, or if you do not receive Swedish sickness or activity compensation. This is applicable regardless of the country in which you are based. The total amount of compensation you will receive is subject to a reduction equivalent to any foreign disability pension benefits you may receive.

FOREIGN COMPENSATIONWhen you work in a country outside the EU/EES or in a country with which Sweden does not have a social security convention, you are compensated for the loss of your Swedish national pension benefits. The national pension is earned on the portion of your salary up to the equivalent of 7.5 income base amounts, and it is this amount for which you receive compensation.

This compensation is usually paid as a supplement to your ITP 1 or ITPK pension and varies in amount depending on your age:

Age Premium as % of pensionable salary

18–29 9.4 %

30–39 11.3 %

40–49 13.5 %

50–59 16.5 %

60–64 18.5 %

SPECIAL SURVIVORS’ BENEFITSSpecial survivors’ benefits constitute risk insurance providing compensation to your survivors in the event of your death. Alecta pays out this compensation. This insurance cover is valid as of the second calendar year following the beginning of your employment abroad, up to and including the third year following the conclusion of your employment abroad, although no later than your 65th birthday.

ADDITIONAL INSURANCE POLICIESAs well as ITP and the additional supplements mentioned above, you are also covered by the following insurance policies:

TGL AND TFA FOR EMPLOYEES WORKING ABROAD

Occupational group life insurance (TGL) applies in the same manner as though you were employed in Sweden. Disability insurance for work-related injuries (TFA) also continues to apply during employment abroad. TFA is administra-ted and paid out by AFA Försäkring.

MEDICAL EXPENSES COVER (LFU)

When you work outside Sweden, your employer signs a medical expenses cover policy (LFU) on your behalf. This policy provides compensation for such things as dental care, remuneration for expenses incurred during pregnancy and child-birth, as well as travel and transport costs arising in conjunction with an illness or an accident.
