‘Named users are also upstream and intermediary technical systems that exchange information with the SAP software system, as well as the users of those systems, if users exchange information with the SAP software in dialog or prompt mode. It makes no difference whether the software is accessed directly or indirectly’.

1/ Analyse your organisation’s use of SAP software:

• Who accesses SAP’s software?

• Employees

• Contractors/Consultants/Other

• Suppliers

• Customers

• What machines/devices/other software also accesses SAP software?

2/ Based on your organisation, how would you define:

• Direct access?

• Indirect Access?

3/ Use other vendors rules/definitions as the basis for your argument that SAP’s rules need to change

Negotiating Indirect Access with SAP

Premier Sponsor ITAM Review IBM & SAP Seminar, New York 14th May 2015

Remember, SAP wants new revenue now AND new revenue in the future

Billing you for some indirect access non-compliance now may give them a short term revenue boost

So when you get hit with a claim for indirect access…..

Your greatest leverage is reminding them that squeezing unreasonable short term revenues will dramatically hurt long term SAP revenue/license growth (e.g, HANA, SAP Cloud, etc)

Best way to avoid Indirect Access non-compliance……?

Negotiate better Indirect Access rules/definitions and add clarity about what’s included and what’s not (exemptions)
