    NARRATION:

    Have no fear! I am the Guardian Angel of general safety for FortisBC. I come bearing an important message.

    If things have seemed more chaotic lately, its because Ive been on vacation.

    So thats why Im here today. Ineed to show you how to take care of yourselves in my absence. Lets go on in to the office and see what we find there.

    NARRATION:

    Well, here we are. Back at the old familiar office. Things have gone OK while I was gone. Nobodys died or anything. Thats a relief. However, I do see a safety

    hazard here. Do you see it?

    The drum part of the toner cartridge contains highly potent chemicals. Particles of these chemicals can be released into the air and cause repiratory problems for

    people.

    dispose of toner cartridges

    NARRATION:

    First of all, make sure to wear gloves or use a cloth when handling the used cartridge. Carefully place the cartridge into a plastic bag. Then place it into one of our

    recycling bins. The recycling companies have protocols for properly disposing of toner cartridges in ways that do not harm the earth.

    NARRATION:

    Yes. Leaving cleaning chemicals out in the open is a safety hazard. Some cleaning chemicals are very harsh on the skin and can cause burns. Additionally, fumes

    from cleaning chemicals can irritate the respiratory system.

    Angel explains what to do when

    seeing cleaning chemicals.

    NARRATION:

    If you see a situation where cleaning chemicals are left out in the open, you have two choices. The first is to place the chemicals carefully into our cleaning storage

    cupboard. There is one on every floor of our office building. Make sure to lock the cupboard doors and then notify your supervisor of the incident. The other choice

    is not to touch the cleaning chemicals at all, and just notify your supervisor directly. Either way is a valid choice.

    emphasizing that it will be a very busyday

    (Note: due to being busy, the

    incentives for not slowing down to

    deal with a safety hazard are high.)

    (Supervisor)Its going to be a very busy day today. I need those three reports to my desk by noon. And the clients I talked with you about yesterday need

    responses. I know you have a large stack of stuff to do today already, but Im sure if we all hustle, well be able to get this knocked out today.
