‘…it was very clear that the play is a powerful tool for students to learn better. It was noticed that students are very friendly with their teachers as they play together and one could easily see that a play is a powerful tool to encourage and raise students’ level of confidence as they take part into their learning. All the learners behaved very well during the lessons and the teachers have systematic ways of praising the students throughout the lessons. It was also noticed that students develop quickly the problem solving skills as they engage into educational games.’ (TDEL WG Minutes 2.7.2015)

However a few challenges were highlighted:

• teachers say they do not have enough time to prepare lessons

• lack enough resources for teaching and learning.

• KEY QUESTION: allocation and spending of the Capitation Grant?

We all really enjoyed the trip to the school and were very excited by what we saw. I know that Right to Play are

going to make a difference to education in Rwanda. They understand that

learning needs to be fun, even in P6.
