The National Night Out event is designed to heighten crime prevention awareness, generate support for and participation in anti-crime programs, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, and send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and are fighting back. The event will kick off at 6:30 p.m. and end at 9 p.m. with a group walk that will be an example of the commitment between community and law enforcement against crime/criminals. This event will include the following: • Emergency vehicle displays, including marked and unmarked police patrol cars, patrol boat, mobile crime, lab, and the new fire engine; • Tactical and investigative equipment display; • Crime prevention resource handouts and children’s activity books; • Scheduling home and business security surveys; • Free bicycle safety inspections;

Bayway Bridge Update This week the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) plans to close the eastbound lanes of the Bayway Bridge from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday (August 2 and 3). The FDOT may change this schedule depending on the weather. FDOT workers will make sure emergency vehicles can get through the work zone as needed. Workers will not necessarily have eastbound lanes closed all day, however drivers should anticipate closures and pay attention to the flashing signs situated around St. Pete Beach and the bridge for more information. As always, the Gabber will post any changes under the “Top Stories” section of our web site (www.theGabber.com) as we learn of them.

You can also get e-mail updates about the Bayway construction project. E-mail [email protected] and ask to receive Bayway detour information.

City Begins Domestic Partnership RegistryST. PETERSBURG- Beginning August 1, adults who are in a domestic partnership relationship may register with the Office of the City Clerk. Official registration follows the passing of the Domestic Partnership Registry ordinance passed June 7. Registration will begin on Wednesday, August 1 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and thereafter every week from Monday through Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Due to conflicts with City Council meetings and agenda preparations, no registry appointments will be made on Thursdays and Fridays. The City Clerk’s office is expecting heavy demand as the registry process begins. For faster service and to serve everyone efficiently, the City Clerk recommends you call for an appointment by calling 727-893-7448. The City Clerk’s Office is located on the main floor of St. Petersburg City Hall, 175 Fifth Street N. In order to receive a Domestic Partnership Certificate, both persons

must be present at the time of initial registration to process a Domestic Partnership Registration Affidavit, a legal document that will be notarized by City Clerk’s Office staff. A photo ID is necessary for each party (Drivers License, State Issued ID, Passport, Military ID). Initial registration is $30 payable in cash, check or money order to the City of St. Petersburg. (No credit or debit cards can be accepted.) For the initial $30 registration fee, you will receive a copy of the registration affidavit (original copy will be recorded with the Pinellas County Clerk of Court), two wallet cards and a formal certificate.

If the registration needs to be amended in the future (change of address, name change) the cost to amend the registration is $10. The cost of terminating the registration is $15. For more information, visit www.stpete.org/domesticpartnership.
