Research Questions:

(1)How have policies for extended producer responsibility of packaging wastes in Germany affected manufacturers and take-back infrastructure over the past 20 years?

(2)Will it be necessary for manufacturers to redesign their products, working with the waste management sector, to be able to comply with the new EC Circular Economy Package?

(3)Can these lessons learned in Germany be optimized for the United States, which has a history of extended producer responsibility for large appliances, such as refrigerators, but not for packaging wastes?
