KEEPING YOUR SIDEWALKS SAFE

It’s the right thing to do and it’s the law.

The Winter snow season is upon us once again! After a snow fall, please be sure to shovel your entire sidewalk and clear any fire hydrants in your area within 12 hours of a snowfall. Keep in mind that wheelchairs and strollers need 36” to pass. The Borough, Police and Fire Departments thank you for keeping your sidewalks safe.

MCLAUGHLIN PARK UPDATE: As mentioned in our last newsletter, we’ve applied for permits from the DEP. Last month, we applied for a grant to help pay for some of the flood mitigation efforts. Hopefully, we will hear a positive reply soon. Renovations will begin soon to upgrade the restrooms to be ADA compliant at McLaughlin Park. The improvements are two-thirds funded through a grant and one-third funded by the Borough.

Leaf Clean up – On-going through first week of December, the Borough will pick up leaves that are swept into a pile and placed at the curb. Remember to be cautious about idling vehicles nearby as this poses a fire hazard.

Brush Grinder – Trimmings and limbs placed at curbs will be picked up during the month of November. All brush material must be no larger than 12 inches in diameter. Due to a safety hazard for our public workmen, all brush material must be free of roots and dirt or they will not be taken. Our Free Little Pantry was recently destroyed by high winds and we need your help! We have found a constructed Free Little Pantry on Etsy that is around $400 that we hope to have up by the holidays. There has already been a generous donor who has offered $200 for the new pantry and now we are looking for the rest! This pantry has helped hundreds of people in our area and we would like to continue our mission to help those in need here at the chamber of commerce. The following are part of Bridgeville’s Code of Ordinances and adopted to maintain a safe community for all residents.

House numbers are required on all buildings in the Borough. The letters must be 3 inches (4 inches if replacing) high and readable from the street.

Owners are responsible for maintaining their properties and grass and weeds are not permitted beyond six inches tall.

Owners of dogs and cats must restrain their pets and not allow them to run loose.

Property owners/residents with sidewalks in front of their property are responsible for keeping them clear of ice and snow and clearing them within 12 hours of a snowfall. Snow is not permitted to be shoveled from the sidewalk into the street.

Repair and replacement of curbs and sidewalks are the responsibility of the property owners.

The Borough prohibits the parking of any motor vehicle on any Borough street the day of scheduled street sweeping. Please be reminded, residents will be required to remove their vehicles for sweeping.

Parking any vehicle of 19,500 pounds or more upon private property or upon any public area in a residential area is prohibited.

Trailers, boats, motor homes and other recreational vehicles may not be stored in front yards.

Cars not in running condition and/or without a valid inspection sticker or registration are not permitted on residential property for more than 30 days.

All residents of Bridgeville are required to be good neighbors and not allow activities on their property to generate excessive noise, accumulate trash or allow yards to be unkempt. Borough code requires regular maintenance of your property.

No person is permitted to engage in any transit retail business without a Borough License.
