Question of the Week: The Sacrament of Matrimony.

Why did God dispose man and woman for each other?

1. Registration is coming soon—watch your mail! Answer: God disposed man and woman for each other so that they might be “no longer two but one” (Mt 19:6). In this way they are to live in love, be fruitful, and thus become a sign of God himself, who is nothing but overflowing love. [CCC 1601—1605] (YOUCAT p. 148)

Where do you see the Kingdom of God growing?

Discussion Questions for Gospel:

hat do you think Jesus wanted to teach the disciples about the Kingdom of God? Which of the two images speaks best to you? How would you explain the Kingdom of God to someone who asks about it?

Gardening tip of the Week

Stake your Tomatoes Early and Carefully

Depending on how high your raised beds are, the subsoil under-neath may not be very forgiving. Many a tomato cage have been bent by carelessly trying to shove them in the soil around a new plant. Instead, carefully press each “leg” of the tomato cage into the soil, one at a time, until you work the whole thing in deep enough. Your seedlings may be so small that it seems silly to put a cage around them right away—it’s best not to wait. Once the plants start to grow, you risk inadvertently snapping off a limb or damaging the plant. https://savvygardening.com/5-tips-for-growing-tomatoes-in-raised-beds/

LIVE THE LITURGY - INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK

Jesus compares the Kingdom of God to a mustard seed, the tini-est of seeds. When planted, the tiny mustard seed grows into a tremendous tree with large branches. So, too, in each of our lives, small things can have profound effects. God can use one of our more insignificant gestures to radically change another person's life. It may be the kindness of a smile, our willingness to accommodate someone, listening to someone's story, helping someone who is hurting, standing up for someone who is right, or complimenting someone on something they did. We all have God-given gifts and talents. Our task is to use them creatively, consistently, lovingly, and generously. We trust that God will take care of the rest.

HELP NEEDED FOR SMALL PARISH PROJECTS

ROSE BUSH TRIMMING: We would like to get the rose bushes in front of the church pruned and tidied up. Work can be performed at any time.

PIANO REMOVAL:

This project is a bit bigger. We have an old piano in the basement of the Parish Center. We would like to have it disassembled and removed to our dumpster.

BENCH SANDING AND STAINING: We need to have the benches in our meditation garden sanded and stained. Father Gregory would like to have this done by June 16th if possible. If you can help with any of these projects contact David Byrne, Volunteer Coordinator, 203-758-4056, ext. 17 or email [email protected]..

SYNOD LISTENING

SESSIONS

The Archdiocese of Hartford has asked all parishes to hold a “Listening Session.” This is an oppor-tunity to express what the Archdiocese is “doing well, not doing so well, or not doing that they should be doing.” The information will be com-piled and sent to the Archdiocese. We hope that you will take advantage of this time. Maybe you appreciate the Archdiocese but never knew how to say thank you or you wish that they offered more. Let your voice be heard! A session will be held on June 30th following the 4:30 Mass in the church hall. Light refreshments will be available.

Thank you to all who have purchased a paver and to those who still plan to. This is an on-going project; you did not miss an opportunity

for a paver. The benches, urns, and flowers were all donat-ed by Cece Cochran. Thank you Cece for this

donation! We appreciate ALL the donations of labor and such that have minimized the cost of this fundraising project.

All are Welcome in the Community of St. Anthony

Regardless of your present religious affiliation or sta-

tus in the Catholic Church, your marital situation,

personal history or struggles, disability, age, back-

ground, race, ethnicity, or sexual orientation, you are

invited, welcomed, respected, loved and encouraged to

be a part of our faith community.

Pope Francis’ Prayer Intention for June

Universal: Social Networks—That social networks may work toward that inclusiveness which respects others for their differences.

New Altar Server Training

I would like to invite your son or daughter to become an altar server here at the Church of St. Anthony. The Altar Server Min-istry is a great way for young people to learn about Church tradi-tions and liturgy. It allows them to become involved in the Mass in a more meaningful way and helps them to grow in self-confidence. Most of our servers enjoy the experience so much they continue to serve until they graduate from high school. Servers may be boys or girls, must be old enough to enter the 4th grade in the fall or older, and have received their First Holy Communion. There will be a training program scheduled toward the end of June and another in the fall. It consists of two ses-sions of approximately two hours in length. The training is then followed by serving several Masses as a trainee before assign-ment to the regular schedule. You get to choose your primary Mass time (if there are spaces) and servers are scheduled once every third week. Father Gregory, Deacon Domenic and I are hopeful that you will discuss this wonderful opportunity to participate in the Mass in a special way with your child and join this very active ministry. If you have any questions, please contact David Byrne, Altar Server Coordinator, at 203-758-4056, ext. 17 or email [email protected].

WHY DO WE DO THAT?

CATHOLIC TRADITIONS EXPLAINED

Question: If God knows everything we do, why do we need to

go to Confession?

Answer: Another term for the Sacrament of Confession is the

Sacrament of Reconciliation. We go to this sacrament not only to confess our sins, but to be reconciled with God. Of course, this begs the question, "If I can pray to God on my own, why can't I be reconciled to God on my own?" In the seven sacra-ments, we recognize the importance of community. Sacraments like Baptism or Matrimony happen in the context of the wider church to remind us of the communal impact of our lives. We

are not alone in our walk of faith!

We don't need to confess our sins in front of the whole commu-nity -- thank God! But going to the Sacrament of Reconciliation is a tangible reminder that our sins affect not only ourselves and our relationship with God, but others as well. Jesus gave his Apostles authority to forgive sins in his name. Through this sac-rament, we are really, truly forgiven by God Himself. We re-ceive an outpouring of grace and strength to sin no more and our

relationship with Christ and his Body, the Church, are restored.

A Health Tip from Chesprocott

If you’ve ever taken a gym class or jogged a few miles, you know how music can take the edge off … or add an edge! Music works as a distraction when things get tough. It also helps you focus when physical activity requires a certain rhythm or pacing, such as when you’re timing exercise repetitions to the beat of a song. You can choose your music, depending on how intense you want your workout to be. Faster music can help up your speed with cardiovascular workouts. Motivational songs can help you focus and out you “in the zone.” Music can also in-crease your mood, creating a more positive workout experience. Music can help change your heart rate, affect blood pressure, change your metabolic rate, and reduce stress and fatigue.

Bereavement Support Group—Prospect Senior Center

6 Center Street, Prospect CT 06712

Sponsored by: Prospect Memorial Funeral Home

Thursdays: July 12, 19, 26 and August 2, 9, 16

1:00 PM – 2:30 PM

Many of us have experienced grief at some time in our lives following the death of a loved one. Our grief may cause in-tense emotional and physical reactions that are characterized by deep sadness and difficulty managing our everyday activi-ties. Each of us is uniquely individual in the way we experience bereavement. Unfortunately, our culture hasn’t equipped us for dealing with grief. We tend to want an instant or quick fix. However, grief does not follow a timetable or a set of rules that we may follow as we seek healing and recovery. If you are dealing with the death of a loved one, grief can be a very lonely and isolating experience. Working out what you need to do to help yourself during this time is important. Our Bereavement Support Group provides a safe place to meet with people who share what you are feeling. It provides an opportunity to discover methods of easing the pain of your loss while finding the strength and courage to go on with life. Rev. Kimberly Wadhams has facilitated bereavement groups for seven years in Prospect, Wolcott, Waterbury, Middlebury and Litchfield. Please call 203-758-6008 with any questions and to secure your place in the group.

The Baby Bottle Boomerang has begun. Bottles may be returned the weekend of June 23/24 to the bins that will be placed in the sanctuary; they can also be returned to

the Parish Center. If making a donation by check, please make checks payable to Car-olyn’s Place.

Lord God, We ask for your almighty hand to be upon all those who gradu-ate this year. Bless their lives from this day on with goodness and love. Help them to stay true to their dreams, to use their gifts wisely, and to walk into the future with faith, hope, and great love. Amen
