Subject: Smart Rugby Confusion

Hi Rugby Lovers,

I will be the first to acknowledge that the gaining of a Smart Rugby accreditation is confusing for all. Unfortunately this is dictated to us by the ARU and the Australian Sports Commission. Below is some information regarding Smart Rugby and it would be greatly appreciated if you could forward this on to all your contacts.

Smart Rugby is compulsory for all coaches and referees. If a game is played where there is a serious injury and each coach and referee is not Smart Rugby accredited, the game will not be insured and there could be potential litigation issues.

Smart Rugby can be gained via the following methods;

Attending a Smart Rugby course

Attending a Coaching Kids Rugby course

Attending a Refereeing Kids Rugby course

Attending a Foundation course

If a coach or referee has attended any of the above, their Smart Rugby will last 2 years. After this, their Smart Rugby needs to be updated. This can be done by going through any of the 4 above courses again. Alternatively, they can use this

link to re-new only the accreditation http://www.rugby.com.au/smartrugby Please see the below note from the ARU regarding updating on line;

Anyone whose SmartRugby expired 31st December 2013 and whose last Smart Rugby re-qualification was face-to-face is eligible.

Individuals whose Smart Rugby expired 31st December 2012 are no longer eligible to complete SmartRugby online and must attend a face-to-face course.

As usual, a complete list of courses and registration details are listed on the link below. I apologise about the confusing system and am happy to answer any questions.

Thanks for your help with this,

Tinky.

Subject: Course News

The ARU has made the decision that all Coaching Kids Rugby courses will cost each participant $30.00. Thankfully, with the assistance of Sport and Recrea-tion Victoria, we have been able to negotiate a grant that will ensure that the cost of this course is now subsidised by 100%. Therefore, this has now become a free course. I have adjusted the registration link below to reflect this.

We have a number of CKR courses coming up so can you please ensure you “persuade” your coaches, including those who need Smart Rugby, to register and get along.

Hi All,

Just an update on our social media reach with Facebook and the web site. This is fairly relevant to sponsorship & recruitment. Club members seem to be coming back to these pages continually for updates and information.

After a bit of strategic advertising and engagement we have moved into a clear 3rd position in FB reach for a VRU club and are steaming ahead to have the chance to overtake everyone for the largest audience. I do not count the Melbourne Chargers as they are not a club and have a lot of sectional support from the LGBT community so not really an accurate reflection. They are also linked to Melb Rugby so there is some crossover there.

It seems that a lot of our own club members are linked to individual team pages (eg Seniors, 14, 16s,) but have not subscribed to the Club’s main page. If we can translate these ‘missing’ club members into subscribers we will greatly boost our following and attraction online. Straw polling, messaging and other contact indicates that the Facebook Page has pulled in at least one club sponsor ( $1300 with 2 player sponsorships on top) and several new memberships across both junior and senior ranks. All in all our Facebook following has increased by about 80% since the start of the year mostly due to targeted advertising costing about $300.

The bulk of our audience for the advertising has been males in the 15 to 25 age group with the biggest reach being in the 18 to 21 age group or thereabouts.

Our Youtube Channel is still a work in progress and has a small number of followers, but we will work on that once the games start. It looks like that the young man who was talking about doing video filming and editing for us a couple of months ago has fallen away. If you know anyone else interested in doing film and video for us please let me or David Griffiths know as this is a great draw card for all elements of our communications strategy.
