INTRODUCTION…Nutrition is the intake of food, considered in relation to the

body’s dietary needs. Good nutrition – an adequate, well balanced diet combined

with regular physical activity – is a cornerstone of good health. Nutrition plays a major role in the children's school

performance. Children's peak performance at school can be attributed much

to good nutrition and eating habits. Children who eat well are healthier. In the school, healthier

children tend to be better learners. Studies show that well-nourished children have:Decreased lateness and absenteeismImproved behaviorLess anxietyMore effective coping skillsIncreased alertness

Supplementary Feeding Program me (SFP)

Supplementary Feeding Programme (SFP) is fully implemented by the Ministry of Education since 1979. It is an additional food aid to poor primary school children and aims to provide nutritious food and balanced nutrients to help students focus on learning in the classroom. For the purpose of implementation of TMP in primary schools, the rate was fixed at RM1.80 per / pupil / day for the peninsula and RM2.05 / pupil / day for Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan.

OBJECTIVESGiving supplements nutritionally balanced to pupils from poor to help them cope with various problems in terms of body growth and lack of energy.

Maintain health and nutrition practices directly and indirectly.

Cultivating a culture of courtesy, discipline, compassion and undesirable practices relating to personal hygiene, food hygiene and environmental sanitation

School Milk Programme

• 1Malaysia milk program (formerly known as the School Milk Program , PSS ) has been initiated since 1983. It is part of the Supplementary Feeding Programme ( SFP ), which aims to promote milk drinking among primary school pupils . On July 9, 2010 the program started with the re-branding under the name 1Malaysia Milk Programme ( PS1M ) .

OBJECTIVES• Improve health and nutritional status of primary school pupils

through the inculcation of habits often / always drink milk .• Promote milk consumption among school children and ensure

pupils from low-income families to take milk . • The provision of milk to schoolchildren is also an effort to

produce a new generation of stronger, leaner and more agile .

IMPORTANCE OF GOOD NUTRITION :

Helps child to concentrate at school.-child is less likely to be too hungry during the morning and it can help with performance at school.

Improve Behavioral Interactions at school.-A child who eats a diet full of nutritious foods is more likely to behave well when interacting with others at school.

In happy Mood-When your child eats plenty of complex carbohydrates her mood improves. So, they always feel happy to do the learning activity in class. Increase School Performance-An unhealthy diet leads to poor school performance and behavior. Not only do children with poor nutrition receive worse grades as a whole, they are less likely to abide by the rules and regulations that schools require.

Child become more active in class.-Take a good breakfast to starts a good day. -Having breakfast, being the most critical meal of the day, has an effect on cognition, strength, attitudes and endurance at school. Can solve problem easily in class-kids who eat a balanced breakfast have higher test scores and can concentrate better and solve problems more easily in class

OTHER IMPORTANCE…

Help prevent childhood obesity -Choosing nutrient-dense foods such as fresh fruit and vegetables over empty-calorie foods such as cookies and sodas.

Support Optimal Growth-The way children eat influences their growth and health during childhood, during adolescence and for the rest of their lives.

Bone health-Dairy foods are probably best known for calcium and the role it plays in building strong bones.-helps maximize peak bone mass and helps reduce the risk of osteoporosis and fractures in later life.

Primary school children are recommended to consume the following amounts of calcium each day to ensure their bones achieve optimal strength:

CONCLUSIONNutrition is very important for everyone, but it is especially important for children because it is directly linked to all aspects of their growth and development; factors which will have direct ties to their level of health as adults.

With proper nutrition it will help promote a better quality of life if you instill proper nutrition trends in your children.

Healthy eating can stabilize children’s energy, sharpen their minds, and even out their moods and directly increase their performance at school.

Well-nourished children are more likely to get the energy and essential nutrients they need to grow, be active, stay healthy and do well at school. Healthy eating habits formed in childhood will help children to grow into healthy adults.
