    WEEK AT A GLANCE

    Dear Students:

    Hopefully you are all settled into your class schedules and getting familiar with each days routine. Let yourteachers or counselors know if you have any questions about the new year.

    This week, each grade level will have a beginning-of-the-year meeting with Ms. Fredericks and Ms. Sayson at2:20 PM in the Little Theater. Grade 5 will meet on Monday, Grade 6 on Tuesday, Grade 7 on Wednesday andGrade 8 on Thursday.

    Open House takes place this Tuesday, August 17 at 5:00 PM. Please encourage your parents to attend so theycan see what you are up to everyday here at ISM.

    Looking ahead, the Student Council campaign will begin next week and runs from Tuesday, August 24 toWednesday, September 1. This is a good time to consider if you would like to run for office and what yourmessage will be. See Ms. Diaz for more information.

    Take noteMonday, August 23 is a school holiday. We are back to class on Tuesday, August 24 and we willfollow a Monday schedule.

    MS ART NEWS*Please make sure to look for the new GradeFive Art Mural We are Responsible for Chang-ing the Future of our World! Last year thegrade five second semester art students cre-ated individual life map paintings, in the styleof Australian Aboriginals and came up with theoverlying theme about Sustainability. The vividand bold project is on display in the middleschool office corridor.*Please save your plastic lids from bottles

    (water/ Gatorade) and bring them to Room1188 for Ms. Morgan. We will be creating a newrecycled structure from these bottle tops/lids.*As always make sure to visit the student art

    Middle School Student Council

    Would you like to represent your classmates while developing leadership skills? Heres your chance! Aspart of the Middle School Student Council you will enjoy leadership training sessions, team building exer-cises, help plan parties, courtyard events and assemblies, work with the school administration, and listento and learn to incorporate the ideas of your peers. This is a wonderful way to serve your community! Elec-tions for grade level representatives will take place the week of August 24 th . If you would like to run foroffice, please pick up a Student Council Speech and Campaign Guidelines packet from Ms. Grace Gabayin the guidance office the week of August 16th. You should get your speech, parental permission form andnomination form to Seora Daz (room 1035, or via email, [email protected]) by Thursday, August 19 th .Anybody willing to dedicate time to help our school is welcome to run. Thank you for considering takingpart in our Student Council!

    MS HONOR CHOIR AUDITIONS

    Love to sing?! Our MS Honor Choir will begin rehearsals in September, fol-lowing AUDITIONS on August 26 & 27. First semester will be for GIRLS

    ONLY, and second semester will have options for GUYS. From the first se-mester participants, AMIS HONOR CHOIR travelers will be selected. TheAMIS Honor Choir Festival will take place at the Hong Kong International

    Sailfish Swim Club is starting on Monday, September 13.If you want to join, come along to tryouts.At tryouts we will ask you to swim Freestyle and Back-stroke, then Breaststroke. You do not need to be achampion swimmer to join; we cater for all abili-ties. We want to see how well you swim not how fast

    you swim. Once we have seen you swim, you will beput in a squad that suits your ability. Elementary School can come up to three times a

    week. Its ok if you come once or twice, we en-courage to be good at lots of different sports

    Middle School can come either three times a weekfor those still learning, or five times a week forthose who have been swimming a long time and areready to train for performance.

    High School can come either three times a week forthose new to the sport or five times a week forthose who are keen and ready to train hard

    Welcome to the Middle School Activities Programfor School Year 2010 - 2011

    Welcome to an exciting year for Middle School Extra Curricular activities. We at ISM think it is very important to pro-vide students with the opportunities to extend their educational experience. We will be offering a comprehensive af-ter school program, lunch time activities, home room / house activities and our annual Sports Day. ATAC will be run-ning their Middle School Sports Teams in line with the High School Seasonal Sports and IASAS program. This program

    begins August 26th

    and will run for the school year.

    For other information regarding the activities please download the MS ACTIVITY BOOKLETand ACTIVITY SCHED-ULE. To register you may get the REGISTRATION FORM from the AFAC Office, MS Office or school website. Please fill-out the registration form and submit to the AFAC Office (room 1031). This year, you may also fill out the registrationform ONLINE.

    The list of confirmed activities will be posted on the MS activities board outside the P.E. office.

    1ST SEASON PRACTICE SCHEDULEFirst Season ATAC sports have begun, thanks to all coaches and students for attending tryouts this past week. Please seethe 1 st season practice schedule on the next page for the seasonal sports program.

    GAME SCHEDULEInformation about all weekend fixtures for teams can be found by going to GAME SCHEDULE page on the ATAC website.You can access this page via the ATAC tab or via the ES/MS/HS divisional webpage on the schools public site. Pleasenote the game schedule does change often due to involvement with many local schools so please check the page regu-larly to find out the latest information of where and when the Bearcats teams are playing.

    SOCCER - FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS V FAITH (SEASON OPENER AUG 20TH) August 20 will be the season opener for our HS soccer teams for this year. This is a fantastic afternoon/evening of sportat ISM and it would be great if we can get a big crowd of people to fill the bleachers at the fields to support our teams.Our new MS field will be used for the first time this year for competition on this day so we are looking forward to a goodcrowd of students and parents using the new grandstand to cheer on the BEARCATS!
