The year 2019 is drawing to an end and as we reflect on what has transpired in MPS for the year, there have been many changes that have taken place and that it has been a good and adventurous journey for us as a school. There are many achievements that we can be proud of too. The feather to our cap this year is the SPM results of 2018 which are the best ever in the school since 2016. MPS has achieved an overall 98.7% passing percentage as well as an above state and national GPS score of 3.15 last year, with 3 students achieving straight As. For this year's Form 5 students sitting for their SPM, we would like to wish them the very best. Examinations are the perfect opportunity to showcase your academic talent and determination. May the blessings of God be with you during the examinations. Besides participating in the MGS production of Mamma Mia, this year we held our Disney-themed Mini Concert and Art Galleria that gave the opportunity for our students to put up amazing performances and creative art displays. With the post PT3 production coming on at the end of this year, we are sure more hidden talents will be unveiled and developed in future. MPS also pulled off our first CSR charity of the year with our Standard 6 students visiting the Pusat Kebajikan Kanak Kanak Seremban. They organised a fund-raising drive among the students and teachers and had the experience of shopping for items to be donated. It was a good learning experience for the students to interact with less privileged children and appreciate more of what they enjoy in their own lives. End of the year also brings along Awards Day, a day to celebrate our students' achievements, a prom night for our Form 5 graduates, and educational trips for the rest of the school. It is a time to have fun and relax after the hectic preparations for year-end examinations. Looking forward to year 2020, we are preparing to focus on the new assessment for English language, the CEFR (Common European of Reference for Languages). Intensive training and practice will be given to staff and students to familiarise them with their new assessment tool The school is also looking forward to students returning in 2020 dressed in appropriate school uniform and abiding by the no-phone ruling during school/CCA hours from 8.00am to 4.30pm. With more focus on students' learning and their character-building, we hope to mould them to be great future leaders who are 'Nulli Secunda' - second to none! MGS Participation in PISF 2019On 2 - 3 November, MGS staff and selected student ambassadors participated in the Private & International School Fair (PISF) held in Mid Valley Exhibition Centre. Apart from student recruitment, the purpose of participating in the trade fair is to benchmark ourselves with others in the industry. It is also a great time to network and make friends.

It was great to take part in the Fair to get more friends to join Matrix Global Schools. What I did to contribute was I showed the

visitors how to use an app on the school’s iPad called Geoboard, where you can design patterns with different coloured rubber bands. It helped me to express my mind and imagination. And I was also given the task to show our school using the VR video. I talked about the places in the school based on the video shown. - Megat Rashidi, Year 6

“At first, I was nervous to talk to the visitors during the Fair. But I got the support from

my family, school seniors and the school staff so I gained my confidence. I had fun meeting and speaking with people even when I did not know them. It was a good opportunity to share the wonderful experiences about my school. It made me very proud that MGS is my school because I discovered that there are things that are exclusive to MGS students. - Clarey Mae Mendez, Year 4

“”

It was a new experience for me in joining this Fair. I develop my promoting skill which I know would help me in the future as I learned to talk confidently to many visitors. - Nurkhalishah Farzana, Form 2

It was an honour to have been selected as an ambassador for MGS for the PISF in Mid Valley. Meeting parents and potential students gave me an opportunity to show-off my school in a very proud and illustrious manner. The experience was worth a million-dollars! I got to meet with other school teachers and thus we exchanged information about our respective schools. MGS had once again been a prize-winner as many parents came to enquire about our fantastic and progressive school. Travelling to Mid Valley was tiring but definitely worth the effort and time. The teachers/staff from MGS that had given-up their weekend time to exhibit the school were definitely patriots! I take this opportunity as a very meaningful and personal deed simply because it’s my last year in MGS and therefore I would do anything it takes to make sure my school gets the best recognition and the best reviews from both parents and students in time to come. Definitely a well-recommended experience! - Saieesivasoriaa Sivagurunathan, Year 11

Going to the PISF in Mid Valley to represent the school was a memorable experience. I was honoured to be chosen to be a representative and it was an eye opener for me. It was amazing to get to interact with parents and at the same time learn more about my school. I was also able to get a full day’s working experience and practise my communication skills. Overall, I am glad to be a part of the team and this event, and I hope I can be a part of it again in the future as an alumni.

MGS Corporate Social Responsibility EffortMGS hosted 180 students from 20 various schools around Negeri Sembilan for 3 days on 5, 6 and 7 November as part of our effort to share best learning practices particularly in promoting the use of English Language. The programme was backed by the State Education Department (JPNS), particularly the English Language Unit, who came to view the activity as it was in line with the government’s effort for Highly Immersive Programme (HIP) in getting students to communicate in English.

Participants spent a full day with the MGS Faculty who taught them that English is not confined to the subject lesson, but can also be applied to all aspects of learning including sports, science and arts. They were also encouraged to use proper English language apart from activity time with some nudging from our students.

Based on the Feedback Form distributed after the camp, we are very proud to receive many praises on the running of the camp particularly for the courteous and helpful MGS Student helpers; namely the MIS Sports Leaders running the Sports session, Form 3 students handling the Crime Scene Investigation activity as well as our Standard 6 students who act as ‘Camp Buddies’. One of the teachers accompanying the visiting students also made a remark about how refreshing it was for her to see the integration and co operation among the races in our school - cementing the claim that we are a global campus!

It was also funny to note from the feedback received that while our students find the canteen food boring and an unappetising, the visitors had nothing but praises for the food given to them. Overall, they are very happy with all the activities conducted, and were truly impressed with the learning and the facilities of our school. The participants particularly enjoyed the PE and Performing Arts activities which they do not get much in their schools.

MGS Marketing Team would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all who were involved in making this event a success. We hope to work togethe r w i th o the r departments in the school to organise more of such activity in future, in order to raise the school’s image as a respected educational institution in the region.

Despite my lack of experience and confidence, I was excited to be helping out in the activity. I can only thank Ms  Amy  and my fellow student leaders, Amber and Nareesyah,  for giving me support and knowledge to lead the group of visiting Standard 6 students. I would love to experience activities like this again to further improve my confidence, communication and leadership skills.

- Kaydenn Keeshan Pragasam, MIS Sports Leader

POST PT3 COOKING CHALLENGE

In an earlier issue, we shared about Standard 2 student, Kingsley Toh Jyun Chi, having been shortlisted in an international level Art Competition. With the support from our community, we are delighted and proud to share that Kingsley has been chosen as winner of the Golden Bear Quality Award 2019!

We hope this award will deepen his passion in art and spark interest for others to follow in his footsteps.

By joining the cooking competition we learned how to develop our cooking skills and to work together as a team. It really strengthened our friendship. Plus, we learned how to cook different types of dishes! - Amrita Kaur

Academic skills learned in our classroom go beyond examinations. Having completed their major lower secondary examinations for PT3, Form 3 students were challenged by our Mathematics Department to a cooking competition!

What the students had to do was1. apply mathematics knowledge in doing calories calculation 2. apply and manipulate their creativity in planning their menu
