Dear Faculty: Are you planning on getting some writing done this summer? Did you do the same last summer? And how did it go? If you're like most of us, we plan to write much more than we actually accomplish. Karen Robert (History) has given the ORS her best strategies for writing and actually getting it finished and published. She is willing to chat with

anyone who wants to about how this technique actually works. You can reach her at [email protected] and if there is sufficient interest, we at the ORS can sponsor a workshop for any of you who would like to talk about the process of writing, what works and what doesn’t.

2013 Summer Conference –“Coming Together as One: Navigating the Relationship between Indigenous Peoples and Canada”. Geneva Park, August 8-11, 2013

Conference Co-Chairs, Amanuel Melles and Leon Thompson

In its history, Couch has never put on a conference that mattered this much or that drives as deeply at the heart of what it means to be “Canada.” Every Conversation we have put on this year – with Hayden King, with Buffy Ste. Marie, with Bob Watts, and with Mark Douglas – has made clear that there is a hunger for discussion between and among Indigenous and non-Indigenous Canadians, a hunger to reframe the relationship, a hunger to recognize that we are all treaty peoples and that we need to rethink the way we constitute ourselves if we are to move forward as a country. Too much depends on it to ignore it. Register now, while early bird rates are still in effect. Don’t leave it – because this Summer Conference is going to sell out. If you know students or folks who can’t afford to come on their own steam, have them check out our scholarships. For more information or to register for the conference visit the Couchiching Institute website

The Symposium on Excellence in Aging Care will be held on September 25-27, 2013 at the Journey Wesleyan Church, 131 Duncan Lane in Fredericton, NB. Once again leaders in the long term care field from across the country and the US will speak. We are offering a special rate of $150 to make it easier for board

members to attend this very relevant event. We feel that these are difficult times and that board chairs need to take advantage of every opportunity to become conversant with issues in long term care. Also, a daily rate of $75 has been approved, a “per session” rate of $30. Please go to the York Foundation website to see the brochure along with registration forms. Nowhere in Eastern Canada, and perhaps nowhere in Canada, will you see an array of such expertise brought together for one symposium.
