Thanks to the the support and donations from our kind supporters, we were able to build new
pens and now have all the dogs and cats from V.T back in Rudozem. The animals were brought
on three separate trips with Kerry accompanying the second group of dogs. Rambo, who was
shot whilst in the garden at V.T was also with the second group of dogs. Although he had looked
like he was making a bit of an improvement, he was still losing weight and not eating well. The
evening that he arrived he was out in the yard with the other dogs, investigating and wandering
around. The next morning, he was sick and his breathing became labored. He wanted to go out so
Kerry and Carmel (volunteer) helped him outside where he lay down in the sunshine. All three
of us were sat with him talking to him and within 10 minutes he had passed away. We are just
grateful that he didn’t have a long and painful death and that they were here so that we could be
with him and support Kerry and Kosta who were devastated.
Bigdog arrived with the first group of dogs and yet two days later it was claimed that he was run-
ning about the village in V.T chasing children. We know he is a super dog but I don’t think even
he is capable of getting from Rudozem to V.T and back without any of us noticing.
It has been a very busy time for us with the building of the pens and finding a new routine with
all the extra dogs and also working out which dogs are compatible and can be let out together.
We are grateful to Sean for having let us have the use of the house and both he and us are sorry
that it didn’t work out. We couldn’t risk any more dogs being shot whilst in the garden or being
accused of being loose and attacking people. Kerry who is expecting a baby in October had been
flashed at, had obscenities shouted at her and stones thrown at her and the local gypsy population
were always trying to goad Kosta into a fight and making threats of what they would do to Kerry
if he should ever go out and she was at the house alone.
We were touched and overwhelmed at how kind and supportive people were in response to our
emergency appeal for the evacuation of all the animals from V.T. Thank you. We couldn’t have
done this without you.
R.I.P Rambo. You suffered so much at the hands of humans but at least you knew some of them
loved you.
As we reported in the last newsletter, Tony and I were both given a letter by the police saying that we had to appear at the police sta-
tion to answer questions regarding having dogs at the building (proposed shelter/clinic) in Elhovets, Rudozem. We were told that it
was nothing serious and that we didn’t need a translator. Fortunately for us, Georgi and Penka who do a lot for animals and animal
rights, had offered to come from Plovdiv to be with us. It turned out that it was to prepare a case and statements for the prosecutor.
Georgi is familiar with the various laws and prepared a statement for us to sign giving our side of things. Without him there, that
wouldn’t have been possible. There was then an inspection at the building by the police and other authorities. We were told that the
prosecutor had a month to decide whether any charges are going to be brought against me.
Days later we had another unexpected visit from a ministry vet who at first seemed very unpleasant. One argument erupted when he
told me I should cut a piece out of all my dogs ears to identify that they come from here. Things became very heated but then we later
heard that he was very impressed by the care for the animals and most of all by the passion that we all had for them and that he
would help us to register as a clinic. We applied for that last week and we are waiting to hear if it has been granted. In the meantime
the mayor has publicly declared that he will make sure we don’t get a license or permission for anything and that us and the dogs will
be gone by the time of the elections which are in October.
Will update on the Facebook RSDR fan page when we have news regarding the prosecutor’s decision and whether our application for
the clinic number is granted.

Ten dogs left us in July and are now in Holland and Belgium. We had
to say goodbye to Jessie, Theo, Buster, Chanel, Gizmo, Chrystal, Ga-
ble, Lila, Blue and Noelle.
Jessie and Gizmo were adopted and now live in Belgium. Theo went
to his new home in Holland. Buster is adopted but his new family
were going on holiday soon after the arrival so they were there to
meet him and have visited him but he is being fostered by Nathalie
one of our team members In Holland. Noelle and Lila are being fos-
tered by team members Marian and Jenny and Chanel is also in fos-
ter. Team members Erika and Dion very kindly offered to foster Blue,
Gable and Chrystal despite already having Nita and Flower from the
previous trip.
Gable has now been adopted by Kim (team member). Kim and fami-
ly were at the adoption meeting and fell in love with Gable.
Erika’s mum has fallen in love with Nita and has adopted her and
Erika and Dion have now adopted Flower.
A big thank you to the adoption teams, foster carers and people who
have adopted.

Sarah
Luke was at the shop not far
from our house when he spotted
this poor girl. She was very
weak and exhausted. He picked
her up and carried her to the
house.
Sarah had several nasty wounds
which looked like burns and was
very thin. She is putting on
weight and is now happy and
playful.
Whilst driving through
Rudozem, we saw a very poor
little dog trying to stagger across
the middle of the road. Cars
were heading towards him with
no intention of slowing down.
Before Tony had fully stopped
the car, Carmel and I jumped out
and ran out in to the road. I
grabbed Snoopy and jumped
back in the car with him. We
didn’t even have time to talk to
him or assess if he was aggres-
sive, we just had to act fast be-
fore he got hit. As it was he be-
haved perfectly. The poor little
boy was very weak and had a
bad case of demodex.
He is now much stronger and his
hair is growing back. It won’t be
long before he has made a full
recovery. Snoopy is such a
sweet natured little guy and has
captured everyone’s hearts.
Chippie Two men turned up at the RSDR building and
asked if we could take a dog. We did explain that
we had no room but they begged us and explained
that her life was in imminent danger. Chippie’s
owner had died and she had found herself on the
streets. For quite some time, people had been trying
to shoot her. The men explained to us that some of
the villagers were going to round her up and kill her
later that day. We told them to bring her and we put
her in one of the pens that we had just built for the
dogs that were due to arrive from V.T.
Zennor and pups
Having just put Chippie in a pen that was
intended for the dogs that were due from
V.T, Tony was on his way to buy more
wood and wire to build another pen. He
had to slam his brakes on when he sudden-
ly saw a mother and her five tiny pups,
cowering in the middle of a busy road.
Someone told him that the dog and pups
had just been dumped from a car and the
mother hadn’t even moved from the mid-
dle of the road. Kerry and Tony quickly
got the mum and babies off the road and
brought them back.
The mother dog, Zennor, was very thin and scared and wasn’t putting down one of her
back legs. They were all full of worms and had very bad flea infestation.
We had to split Zennor and her pups up after a couple of days as she had clearly had
enough and was turning on them. One pup had a cut face after she had bitten him.
Zennor moved in with Chippie and both get along very well.
The vet came last week and Zennor and Chippie were vaccinated and microchipped and
all Zennor’s pups were vaccinated with Primadog to give them protection form 6 weeks
old against some of the nasty canine diseases. The pups have been named Casey, Digit,
Sinbad and Tosca and there is just one little girl pup left to be named.
Three karakachan pups.
Whilst Tony and I were in Smolian last week over the clinic registration, a couple of
men came to the RSDR building and told Kosta and Carmel that they had accidentally
run over and killed a pup and then found three other Karakachan pups nearby.
The three pups were full of fleas and worms. The smallest little girl, Whitney was very
scared at first but is now just as friendly and confident as the others.
All three pups have had their Primadog vaccination and are all doing well.

It was bad enough that Rambo lost his battle for life
after being shot, but that same week whilst doing the
evacuation of dogs and cats from V.T, we also lost Yas-
min and Bess.
Yasmin was a very old cat and we didn’t know how
much longer she would be with us. Kosta went to get
her from the house before the move and found that she
had passed away in her cat bed.
Bess was at our own house in Rudozem. She had been
playing out in the garden with the other dogs and
minutes later couldn’t be found. Tony and the boys
searched everywhere but there was no sign of her.
The next day they searched the forest and the town thinking she must have escaped from the garden. Later the next day,
Luke found her dead under some cat beds in the cellar. It is a total mystery as to what the cause was as she didn’t seem to
be ill but we can only guess that she felt unwell and hid herself away.
Her brother and sister never showed signs of any illness and are fine.
Yasmin and Bess will both be sadly missed.
Volunteers
We were very lucky in July to have our first volunteer,
Carmel Graves. Carmel arrived on the 5th July and in-
tended to stay for 2 weeks. The night before her last day
she asked if she could stay longer and we were so happy.
Apart from being a lovely person, Carmel has a lot of
experience and was a blessing to us during some difficult
times. It was only her second day with us when we had to
go to the police station over the “shelter” and leave her in
control of everything for the full day. She was fantastic
and it was as if she had always been here. She stayed with
us for just under a month and was with us through good
and bad times and during new rescues. We really miss her
and hope to see her again.
Julie Lewis (RSDR UK) came for 5 days with her
brother Mick. They brought lots of goodies for dogs,
cats and humans.
Mick’s first challenge was to fit a cat flap in the secu-
rity grill so that Gingerpuss, the partly blind cat, can
get in through the window instead of going through
the yard when the dogs might be out.
Julie and Mick were a great help and it was good for
the dogs and pups to meet them and interact with new
people. Five days soon went and we were sorry to see
them both go. A big thank you to Julie and Mick.
A lady called Tracy came with Pet Chauffeurs and
stayed for a couple of days to help out before they left.
A big thank you to Tracy.
