Dogs at school We would like to remind parents about the rules governing dogs entering school grounds. At no time are dogs allowed inside the school grounds—i.e. within the black fence which surrounds the school. This includes after school hours and weekends. Dogs must not be left tied up and unattended outside the school at pick up time. The dog must be within effective sight and voice control of the owner AT ALL TIMES. If your dog accompanies you to school at pick up time, please arrange for your child to meet you outside the school gates, so you are able to stay with your pet. Unattended dogs (even the best behaved ones) are a potential risk to other students, siblings and parents. Interschool Basketball In Term 1 the Year 5/6 basketball boys consisting of Sammy (5M), Mitch (5N), Marcus (5N), Lachlan (5B), Mitchell (5B), Blake (6L), Shaquille (6DL), Jack (6DL), Tom (6DL), Oliver (6DL), Cameron (6J), and Kareem (6J) finished with a 5-1 win/loss record. This fantastic achievement qualified them for the grand final against the only team that beat them, Sandringham Primary School. The final was played this week on Tuesday afternoon and was a close game from start to finish. The boys eventually won 25-22, which crowned them Seaside District champions. They will now advance to the regional final that will be played in the next few weeks. Congratulations to the boys for their outstanding effort. Justin Brown BFAC vs Beaumaris North Father’s Club: Annual Cricket Match

Beaumaris Father’s Activity Club invite all dads and male guardians to join the team for the annual cricket match against Beaumaris North Father’s Activity Club. This is always a great day which starts at 10am on the oval at BNorthPS. There is a $5 entry free per person, but this includes a lunchtime BBQ and soft drink. If you are interested in joining the team please call Warren Overton on 0407 274 823. See the poster on page six for all the information you need.

Hooptime Last Thursday the year 4 All Star boys Hooptime team played in the regional finals at Dandenong Stadium. We had a slow start to the day, but finished strong winning the final two games. The All Star boys finished equal 2nd in our pool, but due to percentages, we were placed 3rd and unfortunately eliminated, narrowly miss the state finals. The team were very brave and played extremely well in every game. We are very proud to finish this years Hooptime at the Regional finals and we look forward to training hard for next years Hooptime program. I would like to thank the parents who supported the team and the 8 amazing boys who played with their hearts in every game. Congratulations Kye, Blake, Mason, Tully, Taylor, Byron, Spencer and Timmy! Martin Eden.

LEVEL LOW DOWN

Year Two The Year 2 children have been busy rehearsing for their upcoming performance extravaganza “This is it!” “My favourite song is Eye of the Tiger. I really like boxing!” Ryan 2C “I’m really excited to sing with the girls. I’m also excited to see the boys sing their song” Charlotte 2L “I really like all the songs. The Conga is my favourite” Sofia 2M “My favourite song is Eye of the Tiger. It used to be an old boxing song. My Mum and Dad know it too.” Eddie 2K “My favourite part of the show is when we sing Eye of the Tiger. I really like the moves” Tom 2C It will be a wonderful night filled with dancing, singing and laughter. We would love for the audience to dress up in costumes from their favourite musical era. Just a reminder – due to a lighting malfunction the performance night has been changed to Thursday 30th October.

Year One This week we have been learning about information reports. We have learnt about the structure of an information report and that it includes an introduction, facts and a conclusion. We will be using this skill later in the term when we visit the Zoo for our excursion. Just a reminder our excursion permission forms are due back on 23rd October. Parents will be notified if they are required as a parent helper on the excursion, once all notices have been returned. We have also been learning about respect; respecting each other and our learning environments. As well as revising the addition and subtraction strategies we have learnt so far this year.

Prep We loved our first visit from the firemen on Friday. We learnt that if there is a fire to ‘Get down low, and go, go, go!’ We also learnt about the difference between good fires and bad fires, where to meet if there is a fire at our house and they reminded us about calling ‘triple zero’. We saw what a fireman looks like all dressed up! We discussed this in class and practised our ordinal number by writing about what they put on first, second, third, fourth all the way to tenth! We are making them some posters for the fire station so when they are in a hurry they know what to put on first to help them get ready for an emergency! We are looking forward to another visit from the fire men tomorrow.

Year Four

This week Year four students began investigating Science. Students will participate in lessons for week at a time focussing on forces, matter, minerals or life cycles. We are also looking forward to the Hands On Science Company coming Wednesday and Friday next week to conduct science sessions. In Science classes we have learnt about physics. Last week our class tested two experiments. One was testing which surface created the most friction when a basketball rolls. The other was seeing which ball creates more momentum, out of a tennis ball and a ping-pong ball. In science I learnt that gravity pulls you back onto the Earth so you don’t float off into the atmosphere. Cicely Day 4B

Year Five It’s exciting to see such engagement in our science focus this term. In just two weeks we have enjoyed a rich range of experiences, including planning, conducting and evaluating science investigations, and researching animals and environments to create creatures with features and behaviours that help them to survive and thrive. In Maths, we have been transforming 2-D shapes and considering the ‘real life’ applications of translations, reflections, rotations, enlargements and reductions. In English, the students have paired up, designed their own simple game, and written a procedural text to share their game with others. Student feedback has supported each pair to edit and revise their text before publishing. We have welcomed a number of new students in Year 5 this term and would like to congratulate all our students for demonstrating the school values and ensuring such a positive transition for all. Tervetuloa! (Finnish translation: Welcome – we hope!)

Year Six This week in Year 6, students donned their denim in support of Denim for Difference day. We have conducted science experiments to do with electricity, chemical change and micro-organisms and we are learning about the large number of services that are available to primary and secondary students concerning emotional and physical health.

Year Three This week the Year 3’s have been practising changing their voices, pace and liveliness when reading out loud. We have been using punctuation to make the necessary changes in our voices. The Year 3’s were given different dramatic plays to study and they had to include simple body actions to support their character’s lines. The students have enthusiastically learnt their scripts using clear voices and enjoyed learning the movements to go with their characters. Please remind your child when reading at home to slow down at full stops, change their voice when reading different characters, question marks, as well as adding the right expression when sentences finish with an explanation mark!
