Issue 13, Thursday 15th August 2019
Hello everyone.
We are mid-way through term 3 and there have been many engaging activities taking place.
The seniors visited Lake Connewarre last week and learnt all about the wetland environment. The seniors are off to Landy Field tomorrow and preparing for camp. Whole school swimming is in the last two weeks of term and next week is BOOK WEEK.
Book Week - Friday August 23rd – dress as your favourite book character
This year Book Week runs from 17th August to Friday 23rd August. The theme is “Reading is my SECRET POWER”. The week is a great opportunity to share and celebrate some of our favourite stories and ad-ventures! Here at OSPS we are encouraging all staff and students to dress up as their favourite character next Friday 23rd August. The teachers will be launch-ing their next classroom reading challenge and we invite all families to Assembly next week for a book week parade.
Parent Opinion Survey – ends Sunday, 26th of August – Prize draw
The challenge is now on for all parents to complete the Parent Opinion Survey.
We had 100% of students and staff complete their surveys and the children are now challenging parents to have 100% completion. As an incentive all parents who complete the survey will be given a raffle ticket to go into a prize draw at next week’s assembly. As the survey is anonymous if you have completed this for your family just call past the office to register for your ticket.
Please keep in mind the end date for completion of the survey is this Sunday, 26th of August.
District Athletics tomorrow – Friday 16th August
Tomorrow the senior students will be heading to Landy Field to participate in the District Athletics. Students will be participating in various sports in-cluding running, shot put, discus and long jump. If you have some spare time, head down and cheer our school on.
Dollar lunches
The children are continuing to enjoy dollar lunches whilst contributing to school fundraising. Thanks to Carley’s mum (Vivien) and Leanne who prepare the lunches and to Miss Wise and Lauren for coordinating the program.
There will be no lunches in the last three weeks of term due to camp and swimming. Next week Wednesday 21st August sausage rolls will be on offer followed by noodles on the 28th August.
YEAR 4-6 CAMP
A reminder that full payment is due Monday 26th of August, unless you have an agreed payment plan.
School Council
We invite parents and community to join us next Tuesday 20th August for our School Council Public Meeting.
Swimming
Our swimming program is fast approaching commencing 9th September for the last two weeks of term.
Early next week your child will bring home further information about this program. Please keep your eyes out for the consent forms.

BUG BLITZ
GPS—On the 6th of August class 3-6 went to
Bug Blitz. We did four different activities. I liked
using the GPS, which also means there are satel-
lites in space tracking you location. I learnt how
to use an old GPS and then it ran out of batter-
ies so we had to ask the lady teaching us Erin for
more. But it was time to go back for lunch when
we were there we found a horse and a cow
skull!! In my group was Dylan, Ciarah, Sara and
me. Emily-Rose.
Holding insects and arachnids—On the 6th of
August we went to Connewarre wetlands. My
favourite part was when we got to hold the
mountain huntsman and the stick insects. The ranger explained that the mountain huntsman is more scared of
us than we are of him, and let anyone willing to hold him. The ranger also let is hold some stick insects and ex-
plained that to defend themselves they curl their tails us to look like scorpions. Stick insects look like knobbly
sticks and are herbivores which means that they eat plants. Cailan.
ICE HOCKEY
One week ago I went to Perth to represent Victoria in Ice Hockey. My team played well against QLD, SA, WA and
NSWE. Most of the teams where good apart from SA. But the best team apart from my team would have been
NSW. They were a hard team to beat but we still did it and won gold. Jed.
