The Under 6 Team took on Power House on the refurbished Bridge Street ground. Their dynamic game was very entertaining and enhanced by both teams scoring lots of tries and watching Russell and Bennie getting lots of exercise trying to keep up with the youngsters! Well played everybody!

Don’t forget the “Mercy Rule” “Junior Competition Rules”

5.8.1 Competition Age groups – Under 11 to Under 14.

If the difference in score between two sides competing in the Under 11s to Under 14s Age group competitions reaches 50 points then the Referee shall stop the game and declare the match completed, irrespective of normal time remaining.

5.8.2 For recording purposes the match shall be declared a victory to the winning team with the appropriate competition and scoring points awarded to both teams based on the completed score.

5.8.3 If sufficient time remains before the commencement of scheduled following fixtures, both team coaches shall liaise with the Referee to arrange to play another friendly game of Rugby or ‘Ruck Touch’ or similarly suitable games pursuant to 10.1.4 below.

5.8.4 The “friendly” game of Rugby or Ruck Touch shall be conducted with both teams merging their players, with teams selected equal in numbers and ability, in order to achieve a fair balance.

The Under 8 Team had fun at

Footscray even though the home team failed to show up with numbers. Northerns, Footscray and Eltham just made the most of their opportunity to play some rugby, and made a few friends in the process.

In 2014 the RaboDirect Melbourne Rebels partnered with Sportsnet Holidays to offer Rugby World Cup 2015 (RWC 2015) travel packages to our members, resulting in a small financial return to the Club. Sportsnet Holidays are an Official Travel Agent of RWC 2015.

The packages are identical to those sold on Sportsnet's website (www.sportsnetholidays.com) and the price is the same; the difference is that for every booking, a small portion is contributed back to the Club. Therefore, if you purchased one of these packages you would be supporting your Club, as well securing your place at one of the world's most spectacular sporting events. Bookings will also receive a unique RaboDirect Melbourne Rebels match ball signed by some of the Rebels' biggest stars.

Tickets are becomingly increasingly hard to find and some matches have completely sold out! Currently Sportsnet has the following tickets available to key matches of the RWC 2015: The Final - 89 Bronze Final - 5 Semi-Final 2 - 65 Semi-Final 1 - 72 Quarter Final 4 - 106 Quarter Final 1 - 115 France v Ireland - 2 Australia v Wales - 104 Australia v England - 206 Australia v Uruguay - 34 Australia v Fiji - 34

Women's’ Rugby

Yes, there is interest in running Women’s Rugby at ERUFC. We have the players, possibly for a senior and junior 7s team but as yet have no volunteers to coach or manage the team(s).

Can you help?

If so please email Bully at:

rugbydirector @elthamrugby.com.au

If you don’t want to coach or manage a team, but would simply like to help get the girls started. Please consider being the club’s representative at the:

Viva 7’s Youth Girls Information session

Ikon Park – Meet outside Gate 3 (Royal Parade, Carlton North)

When – Sunday May 17 10:30am

U10 Photographs courtesy of Andy Brown Women’s Viva 7s

VIVA 7’s is the new, non-contact version of rugby 7’s that can be

played by male and female of all ages, no matter the sporting back-ground or experiences. Viva 7’s gives participants a safe and fun environment to have a high intensity workout. It’s the best way to get fit and have fun with your family and friends.

VIVA7s has been introduced to bring new participants to rugby as well as give current players a social brand of game involvement. Viva 7’s allows juniors to learn the nuances of the sport, while practicing the basics, in a fun and safe environment. It allows for people of all abilities to explore their creative side.

There are a maximum of 7 players on the field in each team. Teams have 7 “touches” to score a try. There’s two 7 minute halves and, at typical VIVA7s Centre’s, teams play up to two matches each ses-sion.

There’s action on and off the field - Fresh, funky vibes pumping around the grounds, will get you grooving and stepping on and off the pitch. Once your game is finished, there are a number of social opportunities to partake in to mix it up with your mates or family.

The important next step for the first ever Youth Girls Viva 7’s competition is upon us. The COACHES INFORMATION DAY is set for 10:30 am this Sunday, 17th May.

It is vital that all coaches/delegates/team managers/ junior co-ordinators try and attend this information day so that we all know what is happening, and importantly all your questions can be answered !!

ERUFC Concussion Policy:( http://files.pitchero.com/clubs/4536/handbook2015_130628.pdf)

Please remember that If concussion is diagnosed a player may not resume a game or attend training until a doctor certifies that the individual is well enough to participate in a contact sport. All head injuries are serious and NO player with this diagnosis can return to training or rugby matches without a medical clearance certificate. ARU Concussion Guidance (Rugby Public) 2014

The Australian Rugby Union provides guidance regarding concussion which applies to everyone involved in Rugby across Australia.

At all times, players, parents, coaches and officials need to act in the best interest of player safety and welfare by taking responsibility for the recognition, removal and referral of players to a medical doctor and then ensuring concussion is appropriately managed according to the guidelines.

Under the guidelines:

Recognise and Remove – Any player suspected or recognised with concussion must be removed from training and playing and not return to Rugby or other sport or physical activity on the same day.

Refer – Any player suspected or recognised with concussion must see a medical doctor as soon as possible.

Rest – Players diagnosed with concussion must rest completely until all signs and symptoms of concussion have disappeared.

Recover – The concussed player must first recover

from all signs and symptoms of concussion at rest and return to activities of normal daily living before starting exercise.

Return – Players return to contact training and games following the ‘Graduated Return to Play’ protocol.

People involved in Rugby should familiarise themselves with the full guidelines outlined in:

Australian Rugby Union Concussion Guidance (Rugby Public) (pdf - 131kb) – This

document provides guidance on concussion to those involved in Rugby Union in Australia, and incorporates recent changes to the IRB document entitled ‘IRB Concussion Guidance for the General Public’, which was published on the IRB website on 22 May 2014. This summary is prepared specifically for the Rugby public and is not a medical document.

Pocket Concussion Recognition Tool (pdf - 526kb) – The PocketCRT can be utilised on-field or on the sideline to aid in recognising the visible clues, and signs and symptoms of concussion. Players suspected of having concussion must be removed from play or training and should be referred to Medical Practitioner or Emergency Department for further assessment and diagnosis.
