From the Principal’s Desk Well done to Room 8 Year 4/5 entertaining Rap performance that illustrated classroom Science learning on solids, liquids and gases.

Welcome to the Elliot family, Troy joined Room 8 last week.

Thank you to all our wonderful parents who have provided support for all students throughout term 2. Whether directly by joining in classroom activities, the Minilit/Multilit program, Interschool sports, canteen and uniform services or indirectly by supporting fundraising efforts. You are wonderful role models for your children.

Yesterday Mrs Gillies, Mr Beavan and myself visited Mundaring Primary School to view their innovative approach to the integrating ICT into teaching and learning programs. With limited funds we seek to provide our students with the ICT skills, knowledge and understandings they require for the future.

A number of Year 1 to 5 students are still industriously digging and creating in the sandpits. Students social skills have been challenged as they have learned to share the limited spadesavailable. Yesterday new spades and vehicles arrived, Thank you P&C!

Student teacher, Mrs Jensen (Room 9) completed a successful practicum. To celebrate the end of her practicum the class brought a shared lunch that represented their home culture. It was fascinating to join in and observe our children tasting new food with either a surprise of delight or look of curiosity at a new flavour. Both student teachers, Mr Cohen (Room 2) and Miss Dyball (Room 5) have special events organised for week 10. We wish them both well in their future teaching career.

Interschool Competition The Interschool competition came to a conclusion on Friday with students competing against Riverlands School. Riverlands is a small Montessori school that caters for students K-12. I commend our students for the challenge they faced with the age range. One Caversham soccer team defeated RIverlands 8 to 4! However this will be reviewed and changes made for competition in 2015.

Focus Areas for Future Planning Please return Focus Area for Future Planning sheet by Friday 27th June. This is your opportunity to have a say in the future direction of the school.

Interim Reports I have taken the time to read every child's report. This has given me a valuable insight into the student learning requirements in our school. Thank you to all teaching staff for the clear and concise comments that explain where students are in relation to the Year level expected standards. Please note Mr Mansell's comment is an overall comment for the Health and Physical Education learning

area. Reports will go home on Tuesday 1st July.

Lockridge SHS News

Recent Media reports regarding the amalgamation or closure of schools named Lockridge Senior High School as a school possibly under review given its current student enrolments.

I can confirm that Lockridge Senior High School is currently not under review for closure or amalgamation and this media report was speculation.

Lockridge Senior High School has significant growth predicted in 2015 and will continue to be a quality public school providing excellent educational offerings to the local community.

2015 Kindergarten Enrolments A reminder that applications to enrol in the Kindergarten program for 2015 close on Friday, 25th July 2014. Children who celebrate their 4th birthday between 01/07/2010 and the 30th of June 2011 are eligible to apply. Please pass on this information to family and friends who live in the local intake area and have children in this age group.

Staff Changes Mrs Thunder will be on Long Service Leave for the first two weeks of Term 3. Mrs Di Tate will return to work at the start of a Term 3 after being on leave for the past 12 months. I am taking 4 days Long Service Leave at the end of term. Please see Mr Beavan if you have any concerns. The Term 3 calendar is attached. We have a busy term ahead with two incursions, school photos, cross country, Faction Sports Carnival, interm swimming and classroom learning journey's.

Before and After School Care OSH CLUB meeting was well attended and very informative. Please talk to a P&C member or Deputy Principal, Mr Beavan if you were unable to attend and require more information. OSH Club will be starting on the first Tuesday of Term 3 is all reliant on the Government licensing stamp of approval.

LOTE News Caversham Primary has formed a partnership with a sister school in Bali through the Adopt A School program. The school is called SD 5 Pecatu. This program will enable the students from our school to communicate with students in Bali through letter writing and wikispace to form friendships and develop a more personalised understanding of Balinese culture. I am visiting the school during the July school holidays and am asking if any one has any donations they would like to offer. School items such as stationery (pencils, pencil cases, erasers, exercise books, textas, high lighters etc). If they are second hand donations that is ok, however as long as they are still in reasonable condition. Any sports equipment would be great too as long as if they are basket balls/soccer balls/foot balls that are deflated to make it easy for me to transport across. Also anything about Australia or Perth would be great! If children would like to write a short letter in English to the Balinese students they are more than welcome! The Year 6/7 class has already written a letter to their pen pals so I will be delivering those letters personally. Terima kasih, Ibu Sarah

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT AT LOCKRIDGE SHS

WIN AN ADOBE PRIZE PACK

All Year 6 and 7 students were given the opportunity to visit Lockridge SHS and experience a day at high school. Students had a curriculum rich and creative day. Students were provided with the opportunity to decorate cakes, make Avatars in Adobe Photoshop and notepads in Design and Technology. These were just some of the highlights of the day. Lockridge SHS Specialist Programs, Basketball, Agriculture and Contemporary Music were main features of the day as were the Avatar creations. Lockridge SHS thoroughly enjoyed hosting your Year 6 and 7 students and have produced a digital record of the day, which will very soon be shown at your assembly. Lockridge SHS has strong affiliations with software giant Adobe and have an Adobe Education Leader on staff ensuring creativity is indeed embedded in the curriculum. As a result of this affiliation Lockridge SHS are able to offer an Adobe prize pack to a student who has enrolled for 2015 at Lockridge SHS prior to June 29. A name will be selected at random from all enrolments. One prize pack per primary school.
