Israel Unanimous Against Nuclear Accord
Despite Secretary John Kerry’s attempt to offer proof that Israel is in support of the
nuclear agreement, thrashed out in Vienna by the P5 +1 nations, Israel remains
unequivocally against the deal. With thinly veiled threats of war and isolation from president Obama with his “zero-sum” game, the deal seems to be good for everyone concerned, except Israel.
What is Good for Israel? The unanimity against the nuclear deal from
Israel stems from one point, “What is good for Israel?” The answer is that the Iran nuclear deal is bad for Israel, and there is very little
debate needed. The government, accustomed to much infighting and debate on every item is for once united. From the ultra conservatives
to the left wing liberals, the Knesset is decided, united and vehemently against the
deal.
Why the Deal is Bad for Israeli National Interests
Why is Israel so united against the nuclear deal? Simply put, it gives
the chance for Israel’s neighbors to arm themselves in the nuclear race. The short term gains presented by Washington do not cover the long term very real risks. Iran will be
financially empowered and able to increase their military strength in years to come, and that is never
good for Israel.
Pro-Israel Supporters No Longer On The Fence
Pro-Israeli supporters in the US Congress and in the Jewish community have been forced to listen to the growing voice of dissent from the Israeli government. Supporters of Israel cannot choose to support the nuclear deal and believe that it is good for the country, when faced with the chorus of disapproval from the Knesset.
Stories of divisions and disagreement in Israel used to show that there may be support for the Iran nuclear deal are
considered false and a diversionary tactic being used to sway supporters in the US.
