INTRODUCTION TO THE WORK PROGRAMIntroductionAs required by WTO Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade (Agreement Appendix 3 of the Code of Good Practice for the Preparation, Adoption and Application of Standards) we as the National Standardization Body is required to publish our Standards Work Program at least once every six months.

In addition the following information is being provided:

Present and Proposed standards related activities July –December 2016

1. The National Standards and Quality Department participated in a number of international and regional standards related workshops and training including a special ISO training program of ISO training for New Rights Pilot Participants where officials from National Standards bodies and ISO Office in Geneva conducted the a training . The aim of the training was to raise awareness and understanding of the standards development process. Members are also learning best practice and seeking training to improve performance. aAnd also to achieve a the greater focus on national consultations and public review processes.

2. We are in discussion with ASTM International concerning Myanmar participating in their Standards Global Cooperation program. We hope to conclude this agreement during this period

3. The organization made the decision to adopt 20 international (ISO, IEC and CODEX ) standards as Myanmar Standards, these standards have been translated into Myanmar language and will be adopted and published by two languages in September. Our adoption of the standards follows the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 6 step procedure. These standards will be the first National Standards issued in Myanmar. Our web-site contains information about these standards and provides for readers to provide comments from national stakeholders.

4. We expect to finalize our the National Quality Policy and a p Preparation of the Action Plan for implementing the NQP in September.

5. October 2016, the National standards and Quality Department formally will celebrate the world standards day 2016 .

6. We expect to write the manual for Standardization process with procedures necessary for TC work

7. Improve structure and operation of national technical committees by conducting training program for TCs chair and TCs secretaries and the Standards std division staff

8. The law on standardization, 2014, we are reviewing the Law , will be reviewed by the technical assistance is being provided by USAID, UNIDO and PTB, objective is to revise the Law of international organizations to be in line with the International bBest practice.
