Firaun disco%ered that the# hadesca$ed and followed them with a big arm#. &llah ordered 3a4rat1usa(&.S) to strike the water with his stick. 3e did so and thewater $arted making a dr# $ath for the $eo$le to walk through.3is followers walked across and reached safel# on the other side.

hen Firaun's arm# followed the same dr# $ath ,water rushedback in enormous wa%es and drowned the whole arm#.

He prayed for a son in all sublimity andhis prayer was granted. )ome time later Ha,ira announced happy newsthat she was e*pecting a baby. (s time passed she gave birth to Ismail"Ishmael#. hey arrived at the spot after a long time. It was hilly area

without any trees and water. hey set up their tents and looked aroundbut nothing was visible e*cept sand. he !rophet Ismail "peace be uponhim# had attained the age of a few months only when the event ofmigration took place. He began to cry because of thirst. His motherbegan to look for water but it was not available anywhere.

)he ran desperately in -uest of water between two hillocks called )afaand Marwa but found no water. )he came back to her thirsty infantand was surprised to see the spring of am am emerged from beneaththe foot of the !rophet Ismail "peace be upon him#. )he heaved a sighof relief. )he -uenched the thirst of her baby with water.

Miracles of zamzam• This well has ne"er dried up. -n the contrary it has always ful/lled the

demand for water. (t has always maintained the same salt composition andtaste e"er since it came into existence. (ts potability has always beenuni"ersally recognised as pilgrims from all o"er the world "isit Ha'aba e"eryyear for &aII and umrah, but ha"e ne"er complained about it. (nstead, theyha"e always enIoyed the water that refreshes them. Eater tastes di6erent atdi6erent places.

• Jumzum water's appeal has always been uni"ersal. This water has ne"er beenchemically treated or chlorinated as is the case with water pumped into thecities. Biological growth and "egetation usually takes place in most wells. Thismakes the water unpalatable owing to the growth of algae causing taste andodour problems.

• But in the case of the Jumzum water well, there wasn't any sign of biological

growth. *enturies ago, &agar 9raa searched desperately for water in the hillsof #afa and Marwa to gi"e to her newly born son (smail 9pbuh $s she ran fromone place to another in search of water, her child rubbed his feet against thesand. $ pool of water surfaced, and by the grace of Kod, shaped itself into a

well which came to be called Jumzum water.
